Reporting to the Lead Geospatial Specialist, this role will support the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of geospatial data used in forestry operations, supplier traceability, sustainability reporting, and field-to-office workflows.

The position will initially focus on data editing, quality assurance, established workflow execution, and operational GIS support. The successful candidate will be expected to identify recurring data problems, recognize opportunities to replace manual efforts with automation, and suggest practical workflow improvements.

This is an early-career position for someone with a strong GIS foundation who wants to develop their experience in geospatial data management, automation, remote-sensing outputs, and interactive reporting in a fast-moving, innovative department.

Responsibilities

  • Review geospatial and tabular data for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established standards.
  • Identify, document, and communicate geometry, attribute, identifier, relationship, attachment, and data-model issues via spatial hosted feature services. This will commence with data corrections for review, progressing into assumed responsibility for data quality assurance.
  • Understand, run, and examine results of established geoprocessing tools, scripts, SQL queries, data updates, and QA/QC checks.
  • Maintain authoritative tract, stand, supplier, and related operational datasets.
  • Investigate GIS application and workflow issues, with ability to distinguish incorrect source data, user error, and system flaws.
  • Provide first-line support for Field Maps and other operational GIS applications, escalating issues when appropriate.
  • Support supplier-data intake, standardization, validation, and loading into established GIS datasets.
  • Work with the Sustainability Analyst and operational teams to document, assign, track, and resolve identified data issues.
  • Support development and maintenance of geospatial error-flagging system for managing discrepancies, corrections, and recurring data-quality trends.
  • Support changes to field-to-office workflows and help implement attribute rules, validation processes, and data-enrichment methods.
  • Produce standalone maps and GIS data deliverables upon request.
  • Identify repetitive manual processes and recommend opportunities for improved efficiency, consistency, or automation.
  • Document workflows, processing decisions, identified issues, and completed corrections.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, geography, forestry, natural resources, environmental science, civil engineering, information systems, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Two to four years of relevant GIS experience.
  • Ability to independently edit data, run geoprocessing tools, perform basic spatial analysis, and produce maps in ArcGIS Pro.
  • Understanding of feature classes, tables, joins, relates, coordinate systems, coordinate geometry, and common geospatial data formats.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify inconsistencies in spatial and tabular data.
  • Ability to investigate routine GIS problems, document findings, and seek guidance when needed.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications - What Will Set Them Apart

  • Experience in forestry, natural resources, utilities, civil engineering, conservation, or other field involving real-world spatial data.
  • Familiarity with forest-material operations, mobile data collection, or field-to-office workflows.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online, hosted feature layers, web maps, Field Maps, GNSS survey equipment, photogrammetry, Survey123, or Dashboards.
  • Experience with SQL, ETL processes, schema mapping, or data validation.
  • Exposure to Python or another scripting language.
  • Familiarity with imagery, remote sensing, parcel data, or environmental datasets.

Working Conditions

This role follows a hybrid schedule. Four days of in-office work per week will be expected during the initial onboarding and integration period, transitioning to a hybrid schedule of 2–3 days in-office per week once sufficiently integrated into the role.

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily computer-based work requiring extended periods of sitting and/or standing at a computer and typing.
  • May also include standing, walking, carrying, or lifting (up to 50 lbs.) in support of team tasks.
