The Role:

The Electrical Diagnostician is a key position supporting the plant in achieving electrical first-time quality (EFTQ) during steady-state production and the EFTQ glidepath during vehicle program launch. The primary responsibility is supporting the electrical end-of-line (EOL) repair process.

This role leads electrical troubleshooting, collects and analyzes data, and develops corrective actions to resolve ongoing issues impacting EFTQ. The Electrical Diagnostician supports both current production and new-model launch activities, working closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality, Product Development, and plant Electrical Team members.

The GM Automotive Manufacturing Electrical College, or AMEC, is an immersive training program that provides participants the opportunity to train in classroom and hands-on settings for future employment on a Launch Electrical Team at one of GM’s vehicle assembly facilities.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Be a member of the plant’s Electrical Team—an integrated, technical organization consisting of members from Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality, and Product Development focused on solving the plant’s top external and internal quality problems.
  • Support steady-state production and vehicle program launch activities as assigned by the plant Electrical Team and, during launch, report to the Lead Launch Electrical Coordinator.
  • Lead electrical troubleshooting efforts for the plant and launch team, focusing on top-hitting EFTQ issues through Red X statistical problem solving and strategy-based diagnostics.
  • Create actionable items from electrical failures to enable issue documentation, follow-up, and resolution.
  • Lead corrective action plans and track actions through completion.
  • Support the plant’s EFTQ performance during steady-state production and achievement of the EFTQ glidepath during vehicle program launch.
  • Collect, analyze, and communicate electrical failure data, repair trends, and process information to identify recurring issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead the disconnect workshop during launch to develop the database for repair faults and knowledge-based repair systems in GSIP.
  • Serve as the key contact for Final Process Repairmen regarding training, vehicle troubleshooting, repair root-cause entry into GSIP, Service Information schematics, plant repair diagnostic tools GDS2/MDI, and applicable reporting systems.
  • Support Final Process Repairmen with training, troubleshooting vehicle issues, repair root-cause entry into GSIP, Service Information schematics, plant repair diagnostic tools, and reporting systems.
  • Coordinate training for Repairmen on service diagnostic tools through Raytheon, VERTEX, or the applicable company.
  • Coordinate training on new-model features and service diagnostic tools during vehicle program launch.
  • Conduct training on vehicle electrical systems for Team Leaders so they can effectively support their Team Members.
  • Complete required training at various GM sites and supplier locations. Travel is required for this role.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality, Product Development, and other launch organizations to identify root causes and implement effective countermeasures.
  • Follow all applicable safety, quality, environmental, and operating procedures.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Must be able to work on any shift in a rotating capacity.
  • Background or interest in working on vehicles.
  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to translate highly complex technical issues to non-technical people.
  • Self-motivated and innovative.
  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly with a high level of confidence.
  • Ability to learn new-model electrical systems, diagnostic processes, and repair technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, connector views, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to use electrical diagnostic equipment safely and accurately.

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • 2+  years of previous experience with automotive electrical subsystems.
  • ASE certification or similar credential.
  • Thorough working knowledge of GMS, as well as BIQ4 deliverables.
  • Experience with vehicle communication networks, OEM diagnostic software, scan tools, or specialized electrical test equipment.
  • Experience supporting vehicle launch, prototype, validation, changeover, or containment activities.
  • Experience with root-cause analysis, defect tracking, and corrective-action processes.
