The Arc of Ocean County is looking for enthusiastic, dependable Part-Time Recreation Assistants to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities enjoy meaningful activities, explore their interests, build friendships, and participate more fully in their communities.
From community outings and fitness activities to dances, seasonal events, and creative programs, you’ll help turn everyday experiences into opportunities for connection and independence. Position at a Glance
Employment Type: Part-Time
Schedule: Flexible evening and weekend hours based on program needs
Weekend Availability: Weekend daytime availability required
Pay: $20.70–$24.70 per hour
Pay Schedule: Bi-weekly
Create Experiences People Look Forward To
- Assist with recreational activities that promote enjoyment, personal growth, and community participation.
- Help individuals take part in social events, community outings, seasonal celebrations, and recreational programs throughout Ocean County.
- Assist with fitness classes, arts and crafts, cooking groups, dances, volunteer opportunities, and other activities.
- Encourage participants to explore new interests while recognizing their accomplishments and preferences.
Build Connections & Encourage Independence
- Promote positive social interactions and meaningful relationships among participants.
- Encourage confidence, independence, and active participation in community life.
- Model patience, respect, encouragement, and positive social behavior.
- Help individuals work toward their personal and recreational goals.
Keep Activities Safe & Engaging
- Maintain appropriate supervision and person-centered support during activities, outings, and events.
- Safely transport participants in agency vehicles when assigned.
- Assist with preparing activity spaces, setting up events, and carrying out recreation programs.
- Help maintain a welcoming, organized, and safe environment.
Be Part of a Collaborative Team
- Work alongside supervisors and other Recreation Assistants to deliver engaging, high-quality programming.
- Communicate participant needs, accomplishments, and concerns with the recreation team.
- Share ideas that can expand recreational opportunities and enhance participant experiences.

Requirements
We’re looking for individuals who are dependable, outgoing, and motivated to create positive experiences for others.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid New Jersey driver’s license in good standing with no more than five (5) motor vehicle points.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Previous experience supporting individuals with disabilities preferred.
- Demonstrated employment stability, including at least one (1) year with a previous employer preferred.
