The Opportunity

A full-time opportunity is available within the Commercial Asset Planning (CAP) East team in Canada Gas Commercial Operations. This role is focused on the Mainline and Trans Québec & Maritimes (TQM) systems and offers broad exposure to the regulated natural gas pipeline business and its customers.

The successful candidate will develop and maintain multi-year commercial asset plans that support commercial strategy, system reliability, and business growth. The role integrates market opportunities, operating forecasts, asset condition, maintenance programs, and system performance insights into risk-informed recommendations that balance customer needs, cost, and operational performance.

This position also supports the capacity management portfolio through capacity assessments, commercial open seasons, and other capacity-related initiatives, providing opportunities for progressive development in this area.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of multi-year commercial asset plans for assigned Mainline and TQM assets, balancing risk, cost, and system performance

  • Perform hydraulic modelling, capacity assessments, and scenario analysis to support commercial decisions, evaluate operational impacts, and identify value opportunities

  • Integrate demand forecasts, utilization trends, asset health, facility capability, and maintenance requirements into defensible planning recommendations

  • Assess commercial and operational risks associated with maintenance programs, outages, and facility availability, and communicate mitigation strategies and residual risks

  • Provide commercial operations input into annual and multi-year outage planning, including constraints, sequencing opportunities, and capacity-enabling work

  • Support project development activities, including operating philosophy, facility requirements, tie-in scope, and performance expectations for new or modified facilities

  • Provide secondary coverage for tariff-mandated and ad hoc capacity offerings, while identifying capacity-enabling opportunities and incorporating capacity implications into asset, outage, and maintenance capital planning

  • Build effective relationships across Canada Gas, Safety & Technical Services, Projects, and Legal, while developing broader capacity management expertise

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering

  • 6+ years of progressive, relevant engineering experience

  • Registered, or eligible to register, with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good-standing

  • A combination of education and experience may be considered

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering judgement to complex, ambiguous and multi-stakeholder problems

  • Strong analytical capability, including the ability to synthesize technical, operational, risk and commercial inputs into clear recommendations

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex analysis to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Self-motivated, collaborative and able to manage competing priorities while delivering quality work with appropriate independence

  • Familiarity with the Canadian Mainline and TQM systems

  • Experience with gas transmission hydraulic simulation and the application of modelling results to commercial or asset planning decisions

  • Knowledge of pipeline operations, gas markets, and the supporting commercial and regulatory frameworks

  • Understanding of maintenance capital planning, outage planning, facility reliability, asset integrity, and operational risk management

  • Experience developing asset strategies, utilization assessments, commercial risk evaluations, or capacity-related recommendations

  • Exposure to capacity management concepts, Mainline tariff provisions, and service offerings

  • Proficiency with data, automation, visualization, and analytical tools used to improve decision-making and engineering efficiency

  • Experience preparing concise recommendations and decision support material for senior stakeholders
