We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Chef de Partie / Sous Chef to join our kitchen team who can bring their flair for high-quality food to create engaging food experiences for our guests this summer season in our restaurant at The Shed for approx. 7 months.
Working closely with our Head Chef, you will assist with food preparation, service, menu execution, and maintaining high kitchen standards. This is a practical role that requires a team player who is willing to support all areas of the kitchen, including cleaning duties and dishwashing. We value team members who lead by example, take pride in their work, and are willing to help wherever needed.
The Shed is open 5 days per week, Wednesday to Sunday, and offers a modern, sharing style menu and utilizing local seasonal produce.
Develop your skills matching dishes to wines and continue our journey elevating the experience for our guests.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Support the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations
- Prepare and present high-quality dishes
- Contribute positively to a collaborative team environment
- Assist with stock control and food safety compliance
- Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen
- General kitchen cleaning duties including dishwashing and end-of-service clean-downs as required
- Working collaboratively with the wider hospitality team
Requirements
- Previous experience in a professional kitchen
- Strong food preparation and cooking skills
- A positive can-do attitude, excellent teamwork and communication skills
- To be able to work autonomously and deliver quality work
- Commitment to food safety and cleanliness
- Willingness to support all areas of the kitchen, including dishes and cleaning
- Awareness of manual handling techniques
- High energy and a positive, pro-active approach with attention to detail
- To be adaptable and flexible around the working hours when required
- Availability to work weekends and public holidays.
- English is essential
- Legal rights to work in New Zealand (no visa sponsorship available for this position).
