Role Overview
We are looking for experienced technical professionals who can interpret dimensioned engineering drawings and reproduce them as precise 3D solid models. The work may involve complex curved geometry, programmatic CAD generation, STEP export, and detailed validation against geometric and physical requirements.
This is not a general hardware-support or electronics role. Strong CAD, spatial reasoning, geometry, and technical problem-solving skills are essential.
CONTRACT: Freelance contractor
COMMITMENT: Flexible, based on available tasks and project demand
LOCATIONS: Fully remote - GLOBAL
HOURLY RATE: $50-$100/h
Responsibilities
- Interpret dimensions and geometric relationships from technical drawings and engineering schematics.
- Translate 2D drawings into accurate 3D mechanical models.
- Decompose complex parts into appropriate geometric features and modeling operations.
- Create curved profiles, sweeps, lofts, fillets, chamfers, and Boolean geometry.
- Use Python to generate or automate CAD models.
- Export valid, watertight solid models in formats such as STEP.
- Validate dimensions, topology, volume, surface area, and inertia properties.
- Diagnose subtle discrepancies between expected and generated geometry.
- Troubleshoot invalid or inaccurate CAD models.
- Produce reproducible technical solutions that run reliably in clean environments.
Requirements
- Strong Python programming ability.
- Hands-on experience with 3D CAD, mechanical modeling, or computational geometry.
- Ability to interpret dimensioned engineering drawings and technical schematics.
- Strong 3D spatial reasoning and understanding of geometric relationships.
- Experience creating or manipulating complex solid geometry.
- Experience validating, debugging, or troubleshooting CAD models.
- Ability to work with engineering tolerances and geometric precision.
- Strong written English for documenting technical approaches and results.
