We are looking for a Business Development Representative, Military Engagement (BDR, Military Engagement) to join our sales team. The Business Development Representative, Military Engagement is responsible for expanding and strengthening the organization's relationships across the military and veteran ecosystem. This role will focus on developing relationships with active-duty military organizations, military installations, commands, military leaders, Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs), nonprofit organizations, and other strategic stakeholders that

The BDR will systematically identify target organizations and stakeholders, establish relationships, maintain consistent engagement, uncover organizational needs, and coordinate opportunities with the appropriate internal leaders. Success in this role requires a relationship-oriented business development professional who understands the importance of credibility, persistence, and long-term engagement when working within the military and veteran community.  To work at Talkspace, you need to be as passionate as we are about our work, and excited to partner with us on delivering quality mental healthcare.

This is a remote position based on Eastern Time. Talkspace Headquarters is located in NYC.

What You’ll Do

    • Build and maintain a broad network of relationships across the military and veteran ecosystem.
    • Identify and engage key leaders, decision-makers, influencers, and stakeholders within military commands, installations, units, military support organizations, VSOs, nonprofits, and other veteran-serving organizations.
    • Establish the organization as a trusted resource and strategic partner within the military and veteran community.
    • Develop relationships over time through consistent, thoughtful, and value-added engagement.
    • Maintain a strong understanding of key military and veteran organizations, their missions, priorities, populations served, and organizational structures.
  • Strategic Outreach & Business Development
    • Develop and execute targeted outbound campaigns to military and veteran organizations through personalized email, phone, social selling, networking, industry events, conferences, and other engagement channels.
    • Conduct research to identify priority military entities, installations, commands, organizations, and key stakeholders.
    • Develop highly personalized outreach strategies based on the mission, needs, and priorities of each organization.
    • Generate new conversations and qualified leads that align with organizational growth and military engagement objectives.
    • Identify opportunities to expand awareness and utilization of the organization's services among military-connected populations.
  • Lead Identification & Opportunity Development
    • Identify emerging partnership, programmatic, and business development opportunities across military and veteran organizations.
    • Qualify leads by understanding organizational needs, population served, decision-making structures, funding considerations, and potential partnership opportunities.
    • Nurture prospective opportunities through consistent follow-up and relationship development.
    • Coordinate introductions and discovery meetings between prospective military or veteran partners and appropriate internal sales, channel, or executive leadership.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of stakeholder relationships, engagement activity, opportunities, next steps, and pipeline progression within CRM systems.
  • Military Engagement Pipeline Development
    • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of prospective military, veteran, and nonprofit relationships and opportunities.
    • Partner closely with the Military Engagement Program Manager to prioritize target organizations and develop engagement strategies.
    • Establish a systematic approach to identifying and tracking opportunities across military installations, commands, VSOs, nonprofits, and other strategic organizations.
    • Provide regular reporting on outreach activity, relationship development, qualified leads, pipeline progression, and emerging opportunities.
    • Capture market intelligence and stakeholder feedback to identify trends, unmet needs, and opportunities for expanded military engagement.
  • Community & Industry Engagement
    • Represent the organization at military, veteran, healthcare, nonprofit, and community events as appropriate.
    • Identify opportunities for thought leadership, educational programming, webinars, presentations, and other engagement activities that strengthen relationships with military and veteran stakeholders.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with organizations that have influence or reach within military-connected communities.
    • Identify opportunities to expand the organization's visibility and credibility within the military and veteran ecosystem.
  • Internal Collaboration
    • Collaborate with Channel Partnerships, Sales, Marketing, Military Engagement, and other internal stakeholders to ensure coordinated outreach and follow-up.
    • Support preparation for military and veteran organization meetings, presentations, events, and partnership discussions.
    • Share stakeholder feedback and market intelligence to help inform military engagement strategy and growth initiatives.
    • Support broader military engagement and channel partnership initiatives as directed by the SVP, Channel Partnerships.
  • Performance & Results
    • Consistently achieve activity, relationship-development, qualified-lead, and pipeline-generation objectives.
    • Demonstrate disciplined follow-through and accountability in managing a large portfolio of prospective relationships.
    • Continuously test and refine outreach strategies to improve stakeholder engagement and opportunity conversion.
    • Demonstrate the ability to build relationships that may require extended nurturing cycles before developing into formal opportunities.

  • Experience working within or alongside nonprofit organizations, community-based organizations, or mission-driven organizations serving veterans, service members, families, or other specialized populations preferred.
  • Strong prospecting and business development skills, including experience with email, phone, social selling, networking, events, and other outbound engagement strategies.
  • Strong understanding of relationship-based business development, with the ability to establish credibility, maintain long-term relationships, and nurture opportunities over extended sales cycles.
  • Highly proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable independently managing a broad portfolio of relationships, prospects, and emerging opportunities.
  • Strong research and organizational skills with the ability to understand an organization's mission, structure, priorities, funding environment, and key stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with military, government, nonprofit, healthcare, and civilian audiences.

  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with evolving priorities.
  • Goal-oriented and results-driven, with a strong commitment to building sustainable relationships and creating a measurable pipeline, rather than relying solely on transactional lead generation.
