Founded in 2023, Mach Industries is a rapidly growing defense technology company focused on developing next-generation autonomous defense platforms. At the core of our mission is the commitment to delivering scalable, decentralized defense systems that enhance the strategic capabilities of the United States and its allies. With a workforce of approximately 350 employees, we operate with startup agility and ambition.
Our vision is to redefine the future of warfare through cutting-edge manufacturing, innovation at speed, and unwavering focus on national security. We are dedicated to solving the next generation of warfare with lethal systems that deter kinetic conflict and protect global security.
The Role
The Avionics Build Engineer is responsible for the build, integration, testing, and continuous improvement of avionics hardware and electrical systems. This role works closely with avionics technicians, electrical engineers, and production teams to ensure avionics assemblies and harnesses are built and integrated correctly, efficiently, and to aerospace quality standards.
The engineer will troubleshoot build issues, develop and improve manufacturing processes, create work instructions, support non-conformance resolution, and implement systems that improve production quality, traceability, and reliability. You will own avionics builds from early prototypes through production, working hands-on with technicians and engineers to assemble, integrate, troubleshoot, and improve flight hardware.
Key Responsibilities
Own the build, integration, and bring-up of avionics systems, electrical assemblies, and wire harnesses.
Develop, improve, and maintain avionics manufacturing instructions, work orders, BOMs, drawings, and assembly documentation.
Troubleshoot electrical and avionics hardware using schematics, wiring diagrams, and test equipment. Implement corrective and preventative actions.
Partner with design engineering to build initial prototypes and identify DFM/DFT improvements.
Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, cost, and production rate by reducing defects, rework, cycle time, and bottlenecks.
Develop tooling, fixtures, test equipment, and production aids to improve repeatability and throughput.
Train and support manufacturing technicians on new processes, tools, and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; equivalent hands-on experience may be considered.
1+ years of experience with electrical, avionics, aerospace, automotive, robotics, or similar hardware systems in a production environment.
Experience reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, pinouts, and engineering drawings.
Hands-on experience building or troubleshooting electrical systems, PCB assemblies, or wire harnesses.
Understanding of basic electrical and electronic concepts including DC/AC circuits, voltage/current, resistance, grounding, power distribution, and signal integrity.
Experience using electrical test equipment such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and continuity/insulation testers.
Ability to troubleshoot hardware systematically from symptoms to root cause.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with wire harness manufacturing, crimping, soldering, connector assembly, shielding, backpotting, and cable termination.
Ability to operate autonomously in ambiguity with minimal documentation.
IPC certification or experience working to IPC standards or similar.
Experience with flight computers, embedded systems, sensors, or other avionics hardware.
Experience with QGroundControl, PX4, or similar avionics systems and communication protocols.
A passion for UAV systems.
