Cornell University Facilities Management is seeking an Associate Project Manager to join our Engineering & Project Management team. In this role, you will help deliver capital construction projects that support Cornell's world-class teaching, research, and campus operations. You'll work on a wide variety of renovation, infrastructure, utility, and facilities projects while partnering with faculty, staff, contractors, architects, and engineers to create functional and innovative spaces across campus. 

As an Associate Project Manager, you'll manage multiple projects simultaneously, guiding them through planning, design, procurement, construction, and closeout. Project values typically range from $100,000 to $2 million. 

This is an outstanding opportunity for a construction management, architecture, engineering, facilities management, or owner's representative professional looking to grow their project management career within a highly collaborative environment. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Partner with customers and campus stakeholders to define project scope, budgets, and schedules. 

  • Develop solutions that support the unique needs of faculty, researchers, administrators, and facilities teams. 

  • Represent Cornell throughout the design process and help facilitate decision-making among project stakeholders. 

  • Coordinate consultant selection, design reviews, and compliance with university standards and building codes. 

  • Monitor construction activities, site progress, schedules, quality, and safety considerations. 

  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, punch lists, and project turnover activities. 

  • Ensure projects meet contractual obligations, budget targets, and schedule expectations. 

  • Prepare project approval documentation and support projects through Cornell and regulatory approval processes. 

  • Maintain accurate project records, meeting minutes, and project documentation. 

  • Utilize project management technology and reporting systems throughout the project

What We Need 

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Minimum of three years of project management experience within commercial, institutional, facilities, engineering, or construction environments. 

  • Demonstrated experience managing projects through planning, design, procurement, construction, and closeout. 

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. 

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects and deadlines. 

  • Experience with project management software and systems. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. 

  • Working knowledge of building construction practices, codes, regulations, and standards. 

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed. 

If you have all those things, great! We have a few more things that we would prefer you to have, but it’s ok if you don’t. 

  • Registered Architect or Licensed Engineer in the State of New York or ability through reciprocity to obtain a license within one year of hire date.   

  • PM capital project experience on a University campus is preferred.   

  • Experience managing public capital projects such as SUNY/SUCF.   

  • Proficiency with electronic project scheduling software.  

  • CMAA Construction Manager Certification or Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
