MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives.
- Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
- Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
- Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular).
- Monitor and document student performance throughout the semester, including use of technology for academic advising alerts; provide necessary interventions to include communication with students, tutoring and other academic supports, and referrals to appropriate college resources.
- Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations.
- Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments.
- Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in education or a related field appropriate to the program, and
- Has one of the following:
- Current or expired professional state teaching license/certification or
- Three years of elementary or secondary teaching experience.
- Meets the Education program standard, or
- Possesses an earned Master's or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in Science Education, or
- Possesses an earned Master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in Education with 18 graduate or undergraduate hours in science, or
- Possesses an earned Master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in any natural or physical science, with one of the following:
- Professional certification in education, or
- Minimum of three years of K-12 teaching experience
- MSJ Science of Reading Training Microcredential for Ivy Tech faculty OR
- Complete Cox Campus Structured Literacy Series Modules and complete the Cox Campus final Structured Literacy Exam Certificate OR
- Successful KPEERI Exam Completion OR
- Successful completion of Keys to Literacy (80 hours) OR
- Successful completion of Praxis #5205 OR
- Indiana Literacy Endorsement (added to teaching license) OR
- Upon Curriculum Committee review, equivalent or higher credential in Science of Reading, preferably from an IDA accredited institution, i.e Mt. St. Joseph or Marian University certificate, masters, doctorate, etc.
- Additional experience in special education is preferred.
