Summary

Reporting to the Director, Operations and Academic Programs within Teaching and Academic Programs, the Academic Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for managing and advancing institutional academic quality assurance activities at McGill University. The position provides leadership and expertise in the administration of academic review and accreditation processes, ensuring alignment with University priorities, applicable regulations, and external quality assurance requirements. The role serves as a central resource and liaison for faculties, academic units, senior academic leaders, and governance bodies in matters related to academic quality assurance, accreditation, and academic program planning. The position promotes an integrated and service-oriented approach to academic quality assurance by fostering collaboration across academic and administrative units and by aligning review, accreditation, planning, and continuous improvement activities.

Responsibilities

Academic reviews and quality assurance management

  • Manage the University's annual academic review process from planning through follow-up and implementation.
  • Ensure academic reviews are conducted in accordance with University policies, governance requirements, and mandated standards.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve academic review procedures, templates, guidance materials, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Advise faculties, departments, schools, and review committees on review requirements, timelines, expectations, and best practices.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and submission of review documentation and dossiers.
  • Monitor institutional compliance with academic quality assurance requirements and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Prepare analyses, briefing materials, reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior academic leaders and University committees.
  • Support governance processes associated with academic quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain institutional records and documentation related to academic reviews and quality assurance activities.

Accreditation management and support

  • Serve as the central institutional resource for accreditation activities across faculties and academic units.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with Faculty accreditation leads and relevant administrative partners.
  • Promote alignment between accreditation processes and institutional academic review requirements to reduce duplication and enhance effectiveness.
  • Provide guidance, tools, and frameworks that support accreditation planning, preparation, implementation, and follow-up activities.
  • Monitor accreditation cycles, requirements, outcomes, and recommendations to identify institutional trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Compile and analyse accreditation-related information and prepare institutional reports and summaries for senior leadership.
  • Facilitate the exchange of best practices across Faculties, Schools, and programs.

Integrated academic planning and continuous improvement

  • Promote the integration of academic quality assurance activities with broader academic program planning, strategic priorities, enrolment considerations, and continuous improvement initiatives of Teaching and Academic Programs (TAP)
  • Conduct research, environmental scans, and analyses related to quality assurance, accreditation, and academic planning trends.
  • Develop performance indicators, tracking mechanisms, and reporting tools that support institutional quality assurance objectives.
  • Identify emerging issues, risks, opportunities, and regulatory developments affecting academic quality assurance.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of institutional initiatives that enhance academic quality, program effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
  • Support senior academic leaders in the interpretation and application of quality assurance findings to planning and decision-making.

Relationship management and service delivery

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with senior academic leaders, faculty administrators, academic units, governance committees, and external partners (BCI, CVEP).
  • Serve as subject matter expert on academic quality assurance policies, processes, requirements, and best practices.
  • Facilitate meetings, working groups, and consultations related to academic quality assurance, accreditation, and planning initiatives.
  • Promote a collaborative, service-oriented approach that supports Faculties and units’ success while advancing institutional objectives.

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree required; graduate degree preferred.
  • French and English, both spoken and written.
  • Minimum three to five years of relevant experience in higher education administration, academic quality assurance, accreditation, institutional planning, governance, program evaluation or development, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of University governance, academic program administration, and quality assurance principles.
  • Experience coordinating complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience interpreting policies, regulations, standards, and procedural requirements.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
