The Opportunity & About the Team

As a Product Manager, AI Platform at Zuora, you will define and deliver the foundational platform that powers all of Zuora's AI capabilities. You'll own the end-to-end architecture—from the agent orchestration layer to user-facing interfaces—that enables intelligent, context-aware experiences across our product suite. Your work will directly shape how enterprise customers interact with AI agents that transform subscription management, billing operations, and revenue intelligence.

This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, applied AI, and product design. You'll partner closely with engineering to build the infrastructure that connects AI agents to applications, manages conversation state and memory, and provides the tools layer that lets agents take meaningful action. Your decisions will determine how AI capabilities scale across Zuora's ecosystem while maintaining enterprise-grade security, auditability, and user control.

A critical dimension of this role is cross-organizational leadership. You will interface with application product teams across the entire Zuora suite—Billing, Revenue, Payments, CPQ, and Platform—to enable their AI capabilities and experiences. You'll collaborate across the Product Management organization to ensure a unified, coherent end-to-end user experience. Success requires building strong relationships, establishing shared standards and patterns, and balancing platform consistency with the flexibility teams need to deliver differentiated AI experiences for their domains.

*This is a Hybrid position, so you’ll be working in-person in the Foster City office at least 3 days a week, with other days remote. Of course, you’re welcome to come into the office more often if you’re nearby.

What You'll Do

Own AI Platform Strategy – Lead the roadmap for Zuora's AI Platform, including the agent-to-application interaction layer, orchestration and session management, persona-based agent frameworks, and the centralized tools layer that connects agents to Zuora's services and APIs.

Enable AI Across the Zuora Suite – Partner with application product teams across Billing, Revenue, Payments, CPQ, and Platform to enable their AI capabilities. Provide platform components, patterns, and UX standards that allow teams to build domain-specific experiences while ensuring a coherent end-to-end user experience across the product portfolio.

Drive Platform Architecture Decisions – Partner with engineering on critical technical choices across the stack: cloud infrastructure services, agent development frameworks, memory and context management, and tool integrations that enable agent capabilities.

Build Intelligent User Experiences – Define how AI integrates into Zuora's applications, including contextual awareness, conversational interfaces, and seamless interactions across different entry points and modalities.

Establish Enterprise Controls – Own the product strategy for AI governance including permissions, configuration management, audit capabilities, and human-in-the-loop controls that give enterprise customers confidence in AI-assisted operations.

Evolve Platform Capabilities – Drive development of foundational features that make AI agents smarter, more personalized, and more useful over time—including memory, context management, automation, and new interaction paradigms.

Lead Rapid Iteration Cycles – Establish product feedback loops combining quantitative analytics (usage instrumentation, in-app feedback tracking) with qualitative customer insights (structured interviews, session replay analysis) to enable frequent AI releases and continuous improvement.

Drive Cross-Functional Execution – Collaborate across engineering, design, and product teams to deliver cohesive AI experiences. Lead UX audits to ensure consistent component usage and establish decision frameworks for when custom experiences add value versus complexity.

Establish External Thought Leadership – Represent Zuora in customer advisory discussions, industry events, and analyst briefings to position Zuora as a leader in enterprise AI platform innovation.

About You

• 5-8+ years of product management experience with demonstrated success at leading enterprise SaaS or platform companies, with at least 2 years focused on AI/ML platforms, developer platforms, or foundational infrastructure products
• Deep experience building AI/ML platforms, including LLM orchestration, agent frameworks, conversation management, or similar technologies that power intelligent user experiences
• Strong technical foundation in platform architecture, API design, event-driven systems, and distributed architectures—comfortable partnering with engineering on decisions involving WebSocket protocols, agent orchestration, and memory management
• Proven success with platform products serving multiple internal and external consumers, including experience defining abstractions, establishing governance models, and balancing platform flexibility with product consistency
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to influence and align multiple product teams, establish shared standards, and drive adoption of platform capabilities across an organization
• Experience shipping AI features to enterprise customers, including navigating requirements around security, audit, permissions, and human-in-the-loop controls
• Data-driven product development approach with experience instrumenting features, analyzing usage patterns, and using feedback loops to drive rapid iteration
• Executive presence and ability to influence stakeholders across functions, including engineering leadership and C-level audiences
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field

Nice to Haves

• Experience with agent frameworks and orchestration (LangChain, LangGraph, AWS Bedrock/AgentCore, or similar)
• Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar tool-use patterns for AI agents
• Background in subscription billing, revenue platforms, or enterprise financial systems (Zuora, Salesforce, Oracle, SAP)
• Experience with real-time communication protocols and event-driven architectures
• Track record of building platforms that serve both internal product teams and external developers
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, or a related field

The Opportunity and The Team

We are looking for a Principal Product Manager – Payments to lead the next chapter of Zuora’s global payments platform and coverage strategy. In this senior individual-contributor role, you will be responsible for defining and driving the long-term roadmap for global payment acceptance, platform capabilities, and payment coverage, ensuring that our customers can seamlessly process payments anywhere in the world.

You will operate at the intersection of product, engineering, architecture, and partnerships, shaping how Zuora integrates with payment processors, acquirers, and orchestration partners globally. You have previously built and launched payments platforms and global payment features at scale with a prior company, and you bring 10+ years of hands-on payments domain experience building and scaling integrations across regions.

You will partner closely with product and engineering leaders, be the face to the customers, mentor other ZEOs in the payments area, and serve as a key thought partner to Zuora’s leadership on payments strategy. What you’ll do

• Lead the Global Payments Platform & Coverage Strategy
  Define, own, and execute the multi-year product strategy and roadmap for Zuora’s payments platform, including global acceptance, payment coverage, and core platform capabilities that serve all payment processors integrated with Zuora.
  
  
• Drive Complex Processor & Orchestration Integrations
  Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of complex integrations with payment processors, acquirers, and orchestration partners—from ideation, technical scoping, and design through launch, rollout, and ongoing optimization.
  
  
• Scale Global Payment Features and Functionality
  Design and launch global payment features (e.g., new payment methods, wallets, local schemes, risk and compliance capabilities, routing/orchestration patterns) that improve authorization rates, coverage, and resilience across regions.
  
  
• Optimize Payment Performance at Scale
  Analyze payment success rates and processing data across geographies and processors to identify opportunities to improve authorization rates, reduce transaction failures, and enhance redundancy and resiliency of our payment flows.
  
  
• Set Standards for Integration & Platform Quality
  Establish best practices, patterns, and reusable building blocks for payment integrations (APIs, configuration models, error handling, reconciliation, observability), ensuring new integrations and features are scalable, secure, and maintainable.
  
  
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally and Across Time Zones
  Work closely with engineering, architecture, design, data, and partner management teams—often across US, Beijing, and India time zones—to deliver robust payment solutions that meet the complex needs of global enterprise customers.
  
  
• Serve as the Payments Domain Expert
  Act as the internal subject matter expert on payment gateways, acquirers, schemes, alternative payment methods, and payment orchestration. Provide guidance to internal teams and customers on global payment best practices and regulatory considerations.
  
  
• Be the Focal Point for Customers and Partners
  Serve as a primary point of contact for strategic customers and payment partners for coverage, platform, and integration topics in the US time zone, while aligning closely with engineering and stakeholder teams in Beijing and India.

Your experience

• Deep Payments Domain Expertise (10+ Years)
  10+ years of experience in the payments industry with a deep understanding of the global payments ecosystem, including gateways, processors, acquirers, schemes, wallets, and alternative payment methods.
  
  
• Proven Platform & Global Feature Ownership
  Demonstrated experience building and launching payments platforms and global payment features at a previous company (e.g., PSP, payment gateway, payment orchestration provider, large-scale merchant/platform). You have owned platform capabilities and coverage expansions end-to-end, not just single integrations.
  
  
• Global Payments Integration Experience
  Extensive experience designing, delivering, and scaling payment integrations globally, including working with multiple acquirers/PSPs, local payment methods, and regulatory requirements across regions (e.g., EU, UK, APAC, LATAM, North America).
  
  
• Integration Management & Technical Fluency
  Demonstrated success managing complex technical integrations with payment processors and acquirers, including reading and working from API specifications, mapping request/response fields, handling retries, idempotency, 3DS/SCA, tokenization, and reconciliation workflows.
  
  
• Senior-Level Product Management
  Strong product management track record at a senior/principal level: owning multi-quarter roadmaps, making tradeoffs across platform, coverage, and customer commitments, and delivering features that drive measurable business impact for global customers.
  
  
• Technical Aptitude and Architecture Mindset
  Ability to understand the technical nuances of payment platforms and integrations, collaborate effectively with architects and senior engineers, and translate complex requirements into clear specifications and system behaviors.
  
  
• AI & Data-Driven Product Experience
  Experience using AI/ML to build value-added products that connect payments with revenue or accounts receivable (e.g., automated reconciliation, collections intelligence, cash application, forecasting, or churn analytics), bridging data silos to drive measurable business outcomes.
  
  
• Global Mindset
  Experience building products and platforms for a global market, with a good grasp of regional payment preferences, regulations, and operating constraints (e.g., PSD2, SCA, data residency, localization).
  
  
• Stakeholder and Partner Leadership
  Experience owning relationships with payment processors or strategic partners, and working directly with enterprise customers to prioritize coverage, manage escalations, and align roadmaps.

Nice to Have

• Experience working with recurring billing, subscription management platforms, or usage-based business models.
• Familiarity with global payment regulations such as PSD2, SCA, and PCI-DSS.
• Technical background or previous experience as a solution architect or engineer in the payments space.
• Experience with payment orchestration platforms or building multi-processor routing strategies.
