The role
As the Principal Software Engineer - Robot Software, you will be a technical partner to the Head of Robot Software within the broader Vehicle Software department. This is a high-visibility role where you will influence the roadmap for Embodied AI platform (e.g. an autonomous vehicle) capabilities and mentor the next generation of technical leaders. You will be responsible for the architectural integrity, scalability, and highly-reliable performance of the software stacks that power our vehicles. Your success in this role is defined by the business success built upon your technical roadmaps, the team's success and consistent alignment during their execution, and the adoption and impact of your processes and guidance by the team.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Technical Strategy & Vision: Partner with leadership to define a 12-24 month technical roadmap. Chart a course to align, upgrade, and enhance existing systems to meet customer demands and improve internal efficiency. Identify emerging technologies that will keep the company ahead of the curve. Balance the organization’s technical debt against new feature velocity.
- System Architecture: Lead the design of complex, cross-functional systems. You will ensure that the "Robot" layer integrates seamlessly with the broader Embodied AI algorithms (e.g. driving) while maintaining safety and performance constraints.
- Engineering Excellence: Set the bar for code quality, testing rigor, and observability. You’ll lead design reviews for critical components of the stack and "unblock" teams facing deep-seated architectural debt. You will observe common challenges across disparate workstreams (e.g., latency spikes or data serialization bottlenecks) and champion centralized, reusable solutions that benefit the entire Robot Software organization.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as the technical bridge between Robot Software and neighboring departments like Hardware, Production Software, Simulation, Application Software, Data Platform, and DevOps to ensure hardware-software parity and efficient data flywheels. Identify dependencies and risks that live in the "seams" between projects ensuring, e.g. that the impacts from a change in the sensor drivers is proactively understood and cascaded by joint analysis with the behaviors and simulation teams.
- Technical Mentorship: Cultivate a culture of excellence. You won't just manage tasks; you will grow Senior and Staff engineers through high-level coaching and by modeling principled decision-making.
- Variable Depth Engagement: Demonstrate the "T-shaped" leadership required to oversee a diverse portfolio of initiatives. This ranges from providing high-level directional steering on long-term R&D projects to performing "deep-dive" investments on critical path blockers. You will calibrate the level of oversight based on project risk, providing "light-touch" architectural consulting for mature systems while embedding deeply with teams launching "zero-to-one" capabilities.
About you

Essential
- Domain Expertise: Deep experience in Robotics Middleware (ROS2, Cyber RT, or custom IPCs) and Real-Time Systems.
- Languages: Mastery of C++ (17/20) with a focus on memory management and concurrency. Proficiency in Python.
- Architectural Depth: Proven track record of shipping complex autonomous systems, distributed systems, or safety-critical embedded software.
- Problem Solving: Ability to debug "impossible" problems across the boundary of hardware and software.
- Leadership: Exceptional communication skills; ability to explain complex technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Safety Above All: Understands that in the world of self-driving, "moving fast and breaking things" isn't an option.

- Anticipates Failure: Thinks three steps ahead e.g. about how a change in one sub-system might break the integration of a parallel roadmap six months from now.

The role
As an Embedded Software Test Engineer / Tech Lead at Wayve, you will play a key role in validating onboard software systems before they reach full-vehicle testing. You’ll work across a range of embedded compute platforms and operating systems to ensure software is reliable, integrated, and ready for real-world deployment. This is a high-impact role where your work directly improves software quality and enables faster iteration across multiple teams. You’ll help scale testing by building automated tests and empowering developers to validate their work earlier in the development cycle.
Key responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and execute automated tests for onboard software subsystems (OS, middleware, sensors, and integration points)
- Validate software behavior on embedded hardware platforms within hardware-in-the-loop environments
- Collaborate with software engineers to identify test gaps and build coverage for new and existing features
- Debug and triage system-level issues across software and hardware boundaries
- Enable developer self-service testing by contributing to CI pipelines and reusable test frameworks

The role
The Robot Software team is responsible for the software that runs on our internal fleet of vehicles to enable autonomous driving and collect data for training new driving models. You will join a motivated and talented team of engineers to deliver a reliable, stable and flexible software stack to support on-road experimentation by our model developers and scientists. Your work will enable these teams to iterate quickly and gather the data they need to improve our autonomous driving capabilities and support new product features, which is critical to the success of Wayve’s mission.
The System Performance team equips all Wayve teams with the observability, profiling tools, and infrastructure needed to understand and optimise software performance across our development fleet. We work closely with teams to investigate issues, reduce bottlenecks, and promote best practices. Our work enhances core onboard components to ensure efficient use of compute and a solid foundation for running model experiments at scale. We also provide the tooling and infrastructure needed to quickly detect, diagnose, and address performance regressions, helping teams move faster with greater confidence.
Key responsibilities:
- Investigate latency and performance bottlenecks across the entire software stack
- Instrument code with profiling tools and metrics to collect performance data and identify optimization opportunities
- Integrate and evaluate new profiling and instrumentation tools to benchmark system performance and establish baselines
- Collaborate with multiple teams to understand their performance pain points and prioritize optimization efforts based on impact
- Optimize critical code paths and algorithms to improve runtime efficiency, reduce latency, and enhance overall system performance

The role
Join Wayve’s Onboard Experience team to lead the technical direction of the in-vehicle web experience that helps people see and trust what an autonomous vehicle is doing in real time. You will own a high-impact product used in live vehicle operations, spanning camera/video, 2D overlays, and 3D spatial visualisation of the vehicle’s surroundings. This is a rare opportunity to build reliable, safety-critical software under real-world constraints while shaping how complex AI systems are presented to humans. You will work closely with operators and engineers, balancing rapid iteration with robustness, performance, and maintainability.
Key responsibilities
- Lead architecture and technical strategy across web, backend, and in-vehicle environments, setting standards for reliability, performance, and code quality.
- Drive the evolution of real-time visualisation features, including camera/video + overlays and 3D spatial rendering of trajectories, perception, and occupancy.
- Partner with operators, product, safety, and engineering stakeholders to prioritise and deliver improvements that measurably increase usability and operational efficiency.
- Mentor engineers and raise the bar on engineering practices, including testing, observability, incident readiness, and long-term maintainability.
- Make pragmatic trade-offs in a constrained, intermittently connected environment, ensuring the system remains dependable in live demos and day-to-day operations.
About you
In order to set you up for success as a Staff Fullstack Software Engineer at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.
Essential
- Proven experience leading technical design and delivery of complex software systems across frontend and backend.
- Strong fullstack expertise in React and TypeScript, plus backend services and APIs, with confidence making architecture decisions and aligning multiple engineers.
- Experience setting technical direction across multi-platform surfaces (web + Android/in-vehicle), and ensuring cohesive integration end-to-end.
- Demonstrated ability to build and operate production systems with high reliability expectations, including incident readiness and long-term maintainability.
- Strong understanding of performance constraints in rich, interactive web UIs, including rendering, memory, and handling high-frequency / real-time data.
- Track record of driving engineering quality through pragmatic practices: testing strategy, observability, monitoring, and clear ownership.
- Ability to work with high autonomy in ambiguous problem spaces and make effective trade-offs between speed, reliability, and maintainability.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, able to translate operator and stakeholder needs into technical plans and prioritised delivery.
- Experience mentoring engineers through design reviews, pairing, feedback, and setting team standards.

- Experience building real-time visualisation products (video + overlays, telemetry dashboards, spatial visualisation) where latency and correctness matter.
- Hands-on experience with browser-based 3D rendering (WebGL, Three.js, React Three Fiber), including scene graph design and real-time update loops.
- Experience building software for constrained environments, including intermittent connectivity and strict reliability requirements.
- Familiarity with in-vehicle or embedded-adjacent constraints, and integrating with hardware or platform-specific systems.

The role
Join Wayve to build the in‑vehicle interface that helps people see and understand what an autonomous vehicle is doing in real time. You will turn complex AI outputs, camera feeds, and vehicle state into clear, trustworthy 2D and 3D visualisations that are used in moving vehicles every day. This role spans rapid iteration with real operators and the engineering depth needed for reliable, high-performance multi-platform systems. The impact is direct: you will shape how humans interact with autonomy and how the organisation diagnoses and improves on-road behaviour.
Key responsibilities:
- Build and evolve an in‑vehicle web application that visualises camera feeds, vehicle state, and system outputs for live operation, demos, and diagnostics.
- Design and deliver 3D spatial visualisations of the vehicle’s surroundings (trajectories, perception meshes, occupancy, overlays) using WebGL / Three.js / similar.
- Integrate high-frequency real-time data streams and backend services into a responsive, performant UI that runs reliably in constrained environments.
- Partner closely with Vehicle Safety Operators and engineers to understand workflows, iterate quickly based on field feedback, and improve usability and operational efficiency.
- Own technical quality and long-term maintainability: architecture, testing, observability, performance tuning, and clear end-to-end feature ownership across the stack.

The role
The Robot Software team is responsible for the software that runs on our internal fleet of vehicles to enable autonomous driving and collect data for training new driving models. You will join a motivated and talented team of engineers to deliver a reliable, stable and flexible software stack to support on-road experimentation by our model developers and scientists. The role
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with Wayve’s next-generation innovative compute and sensor platform, as well as contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle.

As an SRE in Vehicle Software, you will keep Wayve’s autonomous driving fleet reliable, observable, and safe while it operates on public roads.
