Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and technically strong Bioinformatics Support Scientist. This role requires strong NGS bioinformatics skills together with written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarize and communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences. They will play a crucial role in supporting customers through data analysis and collaboration with scientists across various disciplines. They will also require a solid working knowledge of molecular biology and NGS library preparation.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance and support for bioinformatics software, databases, and tools to our customers 
• Perform bioinformatics analyses on high-throughput sequencing data, gene expression data, and other biological datasets to support customers and support & applications projects.
• Develop expert-level knowledge of Watchmaker’s NGS product portfolio and applications 
• Maintain thorough customer-facing documentation and knowledgebase of analysis workflows, methodologies and key parameters used to best analyze data generated with Watchmaker products
• Collaborate with customers and internal teams in the design and analysis of scientific projects to support applications and troubleshooting of Watchmaker products 
• Document customer analysis issues, investigate underlying causes, and define solutions to rapidly resolve problems
• Provide customer feedback to facilitate continuous improvement and development of bioinformatics tools and pipelines.
• Conduct training sessions for the Watchmaker support team on bioinformatics tools and best practices.

Skills and Requirements

• Customer-facing NGS troubleshooting and analysis 
• Proficiency with wide variety of standard bioinformatics tools (e.g. bwa, picard, fgbio, STAR, samtools, bedtools, deseq2, nf-core, Nextflow)

Compensation

The base compensation for the Bioinformatics Support Scientist role starts at $100,000 - $130,000 + bonus + equity; actual pay will be adjusted based on skills and experience. Position Summary

Watchmaker Genomics (WMG) is inviting applications for the full-time position of Field Applications Scientist I, EMEA (remote) based in the DACH region.

This position reports to the Associate Director, Field and Automation Support and will be mainly responsible for providing field technical support for Watchmaker’s Next-Gen Sequencing (NGS) and precision enzyme product portfolios. This position will support the EMEA technical team by providing pre- and post-sales technical and scientific support, including presenting technical content to customers and distributors, co-travel with sales team members, attending and/or presenting at conferences and assisting with various marketing activities. This position is field based, with up to 75% travel within EMEA (potential for international travel outside EMEA). 

Prior experience with providing field application support is required. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, proactive, and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced working environment contributing directly to our company culture and success.

The position is expected to have a deep technical understanding of our current product portfolio, maintain knowledge of current and new NGS products, workflows-associated applications, competitor products and NGS automation support offerings, and identify and escalate changes in the market dynamics. This position is also accountable for providing customer feedback on WMG products, in addition to identifying unmet customer needs that will enable the development of new and innovative products.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for providing pre- and post-sales technical and scientific support, both onsite and remote, for customers and distributors across WMG’s NGS and precision enzyme product portfolio. 
• EMEA-based travel (up to 75%) activities including co-travel with sales team members, meetings with key customers, providing training and troubleshooting, and participating in trade shows/conferences. Possible opportunity for further international travel.
• Provides deep product knowledge to solve customer challenges. Triages issues, troubleshoots investigations, and identifies solutions.
• Creation of training material, and presenting technical content to new or current customers or distributors.
• Inform and implement processes as a part of our EMEA-field based scientific support organization.
• Maintain expert-level knowledge of current and new NGS products and workflows, our precision enzyme portfolio and associated applications, competitor products and NGS automation support offerings. 
• Provide customer and market feedback on WMG products; Identify and communicate unmet customer needs that will aid in the development of new and innovative products.
• Work closely with the commercial team to identify and support collaborations with leading research institutions and industry partners to accelerate the sales cycle, including both pre-sales and post-sales troubleshooting. 
• Support marketing activities including generation of customer-facing technical content (i.e. posters, app/tech notes, white papers, webinars) as well as participating in and presenting at trade shows/conferences.
• Participate in sales, marketing, and product strategy meetings when appropriate. 
• Follow best practices and documentation requirements for customer-related activities and events in CRM.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Relevant experience providing field-based applications support for next-generation sequencing (NGS) experiments and/or other advanced genomics applications. Relevant experience includes working in high-throughput sequencing labs developing, optimizing and troubleshooting NGS workflows both manually and on automated platforms and managing large sequencing projects. 

Qualified candidates will have a proactive approach with a can-do attitude, and be great communicators with a high level of self-motivation. • MSc in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field
• 4+ Years experience within NGS field applications 
• Advanced knowledge of and practical experience with experimental design, applications/assay development, NGS library preparation, PCR, qPCR, good lab practices, and troubleshooting. Automation knowledge of NGS assays is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain existing accounts and relationships within the segment. Build relationships with customer product development teams to secure business continuity through new iterations of customer products.
• Expand business at existing accounts through a keen understanding of NGS  & Molecular Diagnostic workflows and assays, including and associated enzymology

Broad technical knowledge of DNA- and RNA-modifying enzymes and NGS technology is a requirement.  Experience in start-up environments is highly desirable.

Position Summary
Watchmaker Genomics is seeking a strategic and collaborative Associate Director, Product Management (MDx & Enzymes) to lead our MDx & Enzymes product management team. This individual will play a critical role in advancing product strategy across core molecular diagnostics application specific reagents —including qPCR, RT-qPCR, PCR, and isothermal amplification—and enzyme technologies supporting both MDx and NGS workflows.

This leader will manage a growing team of Product Managers who drive individual portfolio strategies. While each PM leads their respective portfolio strategy team, the Associate Director will act as a strategic sponsor, ensuring alignment, momentum, and cross-functional connectivity. The role also plays a key part in commercialization planning, customer-centric innovation, and early product discovery within Watchmaker’s Product Engine.

This is a highly collaborative role with broad influence across Marketing, R&D, Commercial, and Executive teams. The ideal candidate is a domain expert in MDx and enzymology, an empowering team leader, and a strategic thinker who thrives in fast-paced and OEM environments.

Key Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership & Development

• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of Product Managers across the MDx & Enzymes portfolio.
• Set clear goals, drive accountability, and foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and customer centricity.
• Support your team in leading their respective portfolio strategy teams, serving as a strategic sponsor to ensure focus, execution, and alignment with business priorities.

1. Portfolio Strategy & Market Focus

• Own the overarching MDx & Enzymes product strategy, spanning applications such as qPCR, RT-qPCR, PCR, isothermal amplification, and enzyme use in MDx and NGS workflows.
• Guide multi-year portfolio planning and investment prioritization in partnership with Commercial, R&D, and Executive teams.
• Ensure strategies reflect the needs of key market segments (e.g., point-of-care, decentralized testing, centralized labs) and relevant clinical indications (e.g., infectious disease, oncology).

1. Product Innovation & Opportunity Development

• Contribute to Watchmaker’s Product Engine by supporting market research, customer segmentation, competitive landscaping, and new product opportunity identification.
• Sponsor early-stage discovery efforts, helping your team define unmet needs and align scientific feasibility with market demand.
• Drive clarity and alignment across both MDx and NGS innovation areas.

1. Commercial Execution & Lifecycle Support

• Guide your team in planning and executing effective product and commercial launches with differentiated positioning, clear messaging, and commercial alignment.
• Partner cross-functionally to ensure go-to-market readiness and long-term product success.
• Support lifecycle management and continuous portfolio optimization to drive sustainable growth.
• Guidance and execution of processes and products to support our OEM channels.

Education and Experience

• MS and +12 years of relevant industry experience, including 2–4 years in people management and a proven track record in product strategy and leadership
• Minimum of 12 years of relevant industry experience in life sciences, diagnostics, or biotechnology.
• 2–4 years in people management 
• Demonstrated Product Management experience, with a strong preference for roles involving cross-functional product development and commercial launch.
• Experience participating in or leading NPD core teams is required.
• Customer-facing experience (e.g., field application, sales, customer discovery) is a plus.
• Experience dealing with OEM customers and processes 
• Experience in collaboratively developing portfolio strategy.
• Deep expertise in MDx applications and enzyme technologies

Compensation

The base compensation for the Associate Director, Product Management (MDx & Enzymes)  role starts at $150,000 - $170,000 + bonus + equity; actual pay will be adjusted based on skills and experience. Employees are eligible for Flexible Time Off, Holidays, employer covers 75% of base medical plan with buy-up options, EAP (employee assistance program), employer paid dental, employer paid vision, employer paid $25,000 life/AD&D policy, paid parental leave, and a 401(k) retirement plan with a 4% match..
