Greater Staten Island Veterinary Services would like to bring on a Board-Certified or Residency trained Criticalist to our well established, rapidly growing 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital!
Greater Staten Island Veterinary Services is in the southern borough of Staten Island in NYC. This location is easily commutable to Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the other boroughs of NYC, along with NJ and Philadelphia a short car ride away. This is a great area to live in, with easy access to beaches, sports, arts, Broadway, entertainment, several airports, parks, shopping and more! Our hospital culture is collaborative and fun and the veterinarians in this area have been referring to our family of hospitals for over twenty years. This location has enabled us to provide emergency and referral veterinary care closer to home for our established base of clients as well as new clients in the Staten Island area.
How you will make a difference:
Greater Staten Island Veterinary Services sees a diverse caseload of emergency and referral patients. As GSiVS’s Critical Care specialist, you will work alongside our residency trained surgeon and ER doctors to help serve the clients and patients of Staten Island by providing cutting edge medical and diagnostic services. You will guide the department as well as support the emergency and surgical departments through consultation and case management. You will have the opportunity to help elevate the knowledge and skill of the licensed veterinary technicians and assistants, enabling them to provide the best care possible for our patients. As the only boarded Criticalist on Staten Island, you will be a point of contact for referring veterinarians enabling collaboration and improved patient care across Staten Island.

About GSiVS: We are a multispecialty practice with boarded specialists in cardiology, surgery, and critical care. Our clients and patients also have access to internal medicine, ophthalmology, oncology, radiation oncology, neurology, dermatology, and radioactive iodine treatment via our affiliated practices in Woodbridge and Eatontown, NJ.

- Provide support to doctors and technicians
- Restrain patients for exams and procedures
- Obtain and prepare samples for diagnostic testing
- Monitor and document patient’s vital signs

- Helps keep hospital clean, neat and stocked
- Walk dogs as directed

At GSiVS, our Licensed Veterinary Technicians work side-by-side with specialists and have access to cutting-edge diagnostic tools—basically, it’s like being the superhero sidekick but with scrubs instead of capes.
What Your Day Could Look Like: You’ll jump into a wide variety of tasks, including:
- Guiding patients smoothly through anesthesia and sedated procedures
- Setting up CRIs and showing off those medical‑math muscles
- Placing IV catheters like the pro you are
- Delivering compassionate, gold‑standard care to hospitalized pets
- Handling blood and plasma transfusions (vampire jokes welcome)
- Keeping spotless treatment sheets and detailed anesthesia records
- Collecting and preparing blood samples for diagnostics
- Educating clients so they feel confident caring for their pets at home
Who You Are:
- A licensed LVT (required!)
- Skilled and confident in anesthetic monitoring
- Comfortable processing basic lab samples
- Knowledgeable in anatomy, physiology, and normal vs. not-so-normal ranges
