The Role 

VEIR is seeking a qualified Senior Engineer to join our System Integration & Heat Transfer team.  This individual will play a critical role ensuring VEIR’s superconducting cable is reliably installed in the full range of possible customer sites.  

What You’ll Do 

• Serve as a subject matter expert in the equipment, means, methods and materials of installing our low-voltage and medium-voltage superconducting cable systems in all possible environments.  
• Specify and design installation hardware and equipment, including custom equipment where necessary. 
• Assist in the planning and execution of testing to ensure the cable mechanical design is consistent with required installation techniques and methods. 
• Translate complex technical specifications into field installation manuals.  
• Design training, and provide field support to help external partners install our system reliably. 
• Ensure all installation methods comply with site safety standards and relevant 
• codes / regulations. 
• Interface and manage external contractors at both a high level planning stage and detailed execution stage. 

Skills You Have 

• 7+ years of experience in engineering, with a strong foundation in structural systems and/or large infrastructure, hardware selection and specification, field operations and support, and analytical methods for calculating forces, tolerances, and allowable loads.  
• Experience in CAD and BIM. 
• Skilled in MATLAB, Python, or similar languages is a plus.  
• Expertise in technical writing and process documentation.

In the first 3 months you'll

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of VEIR's SL Series architecture, VEIR’s New Product Development (NPD) process, and the current state of SL Series NPD program. 
• Establish working relationships with the subsystem product managers (LIN System & Controls, Cable Assemblies & Joints, Terminations & Junctions) and define the coordination model for translating system-level requirements into subsystem direction. 
• Engage with VEIR's active commercial pipeline to develop a direct understanding of customer integration requirements, site architectures, and technical questions that bear on SL Series product definition. 
• Own and drive progress on the core product deliverables: Product Requirements Document, Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) model, customer-facing product and use case presentations. 

In the first 6 months you'll

• Complete the full Preliminary Design phase product deliverable set for the SL Series in collaboration with SL Series subsystem product managers and product marketing manager, including application and use case presentations, product brochure, product presentations, guide specifications, product datasheets, and serviceability plan. 
• Develop the SL Series go-to-market plan and pricing framework in collaboration with the Commercial team. 
• Update the SL Series product roadmap, incorporating inputs from the commercial pipeline, competitive intelligence, and engineering feasibility. 
• Finalize SKU structure at system, subsystem, and component levels working across subsystem PMs and engineering. 
• Lead the development of the SL Series partnership plan with key integration and channel partners. 

By the end of the first year you will have

• Own end-to-end product accountability for the SL Series through commercial launch, including launch strategy execution and marketing plan delivery (PRM-055) in partnership with the Product Marketing Manager. 
• Serve as the primary product team interface for strategic customer engagements — conducting technical discovery, interpreting site-specific integration requirements, and translating customer inputs into clear direction for subsystem product managers. 
• Develop and maintain a competitive positioning framework for the SL Series, including analysis of conventional LV power delivery alternatives in data center applications. 
• Define the product scope and initial requirements for SL Series follow-on variants or next-generation configurations based on customer and commercial inputs. 
• Establish and maintain a healthy interface with the Solutions Engineering team to ensure that application engineering outputs inform, but do not substitute for, product-level requirements decisions. 

To be successful in this role

• You'll bring 8+ years of experience in data center electrical infrastructure, with direct hands-on involvement in the design, specification, procurement, or operation of large-scale data center power delivery systems at low voltage. 
• You'll have 4+ years of product management experience in hardware or infrastructure products — with demonstrated ownership of product requirements, roadmap, and go-to-market execution. 
• You'll have direct familiarity with hyperscale or large-scale colocation data center electrical architecture: 480V and 800VDC distribution systems, busway and cable infrastructure, UPS topologies, PDU and switchgear specifications, and high-density rack power delivery. 
• You'll be capable of engaging with customer electrical engineering teams at a peer level — understanding their site architecture, interpreting their integration constraints, and identifying the product requirements that follow. 
• You'll have experience developing product requirements documents, guide specifications, and product data sheets for hardware products. 
• You'll have a working understanding of applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA 110, UL, CSA, ANSI) as they apply to data center power distribution infrastructure.

In Your First 3–6 Months, You Will 

• Develop a deep understanding of VEIR’s dielectric designs, high voltage test strategy and capabilities, fault handling concepts, and protection strategies across all product lines. 
• Apply your expertise in dielectric systems, insulation design, high voltage testing, and fault behavior to guide design tradeoffs and support active builds and testing. 
• Lead and manage a small team of engineers, establishing clear goals, responsibilities, and expectations while fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability. 
• Build strong cross-functional partnerships with conductor assembly, cryogenics, controls, mechanical design, and systems integration teams.

• Own the technical roadmap for dielectric design and fault handling across all VEIR products. 
• Lead your team to deliver validated dielectric systems and fault handling solutions that meet performance, safety, certification, and reliability requirements. 
• Establish and evolve engineering standards, design documentation practices, and testing methodologies, including the development of internal high voltage test capabilities, related to insulation performance and fault events. 
• Partner closely with systems engineering and program management to align technical priorities, schedules, and resource plans.

In the first 3 months you'll

• Review and develop a working understanding of VEIR's cryogenic system designs, existing documentation, and outstanding technical questions.
• Complete engineering calculations or reports on at least two high-priority system problems, such as liquid nitrogen tank thermal management or manifold flow distribution.
• Build relationships with your cross-functional counterparts in mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering.
• Begin contributing to P&ID reviews, identifying gaps or inconsistencies in current design documentation. 

In the first 6 months you'll

• Own equipment specification and vendor qualification for one or more cryogenic subsystems, including selection of pumps, heat exchangers, tanks, or flow control components.
• Produce formal calculation reports or technical memos that support design decisions and are suitable for design review.
• Actively contribute to process safety reviews (HAZOP or equivalent) for relevant subsystems.
• Begin taking on design and analysis tasks within the 1.0 low voltage product program with limited oversight.

By the end of the first year, you will have

• Lead a cross-functional technical effort, coordinating internally and with external partners to resolve a complex system-level engineering question.
• Own the process engineering documentation library for assigned subsystems, including operating procedures, maintenance guidelines, and specification records.
• Be a recognized internal resource for cryogenic and thermal systems expertise, supporting design decisions across the 1.0 and HTS product lines.
• Demonstrate the ability to scope, structure, and independently drive engineering investigations from problem definition through to a documented, decision-ready output.

To be successful in this role

You bring:

• 6 to 8 years of experience in process or systems engineering, with a focus on thermofluids-intensive systems. Mechanical or chemical engineering degree required.
• Demonstrated proficiency in heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid systems design, including cryogenic or low-temperature applications.
• Hands-on experience reading, creating, and reviewing P&IDs and PFDs, with fluency in standard instrumentation and equipment symbols.
• Experience specifying and procuring major equipment items, including pumps, heat exchangers, cryogenic tanks, and associated controls.
• A track record of producing engineering documentation: calculation reports, equipment specifications, operating procedures, or design basis memos.
• Some exposure to process safety review methodologies (HAZOP, FMEA, or equivalent).
• Experience from oil and gas (specifically LNG), industrial gas, fusion energy, or space launch is directly relevant to the work here.

Nice to have:

• Direct cryogenic systems experience, specifically with liquid nitrogen, liquid hydrogen, or liquid oxygen handling.
• Field experience observing or participating in system construction, commissioning, or startup, and feeding those lessons back into design.
• Familiarity with the full project lifecycle: from concept and design through procurement, construction oversight, and commissioning.

The Role  

VEIR is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to serve as the technical authority on all aspects of electrical systems integration and compliance. Reporting to the Sr. Manager – Superconducting Systems, this individual will own the interface between VEIR's superconducting power delivery equipment and datacenter distribution infrastructure — translating customer facility requirements into rigorous integration specifications, driving connector and component design for seamless infrastructure interoperability, and establishing the compliance and standards framework that governs how VEIR designs, tests, and deploys its systems. 

This is a high-ownership individual contributor role at the intersection of hardware, systems architecture, and regulatory compliance. The right candidate brings deep datacenter power distribution experience, a command of applicable electrical standards (NEC, IEC, UL), and the engineering judgment to operate effectively in a fast-paced, commercial/scale-up environment where the technical decisions made today will shape VEIR's product roadmap for years to come. 

What You’ll Do 

Electrical Systems Integration 

• Own the electrical integration interface designs between VEIR system and datacenter distribution systems, from medium-voltage (MV) switchgear and transformers through low-voltage (LV) switchgear, busway, PDUs, power sidecars, and rack busbars. 
• Drive VEIR system / sub-system / component product development with deep knowledge of: 
  • datacenter electrical system-level integration specifications, single-line diagrams, protection architectures 
  • datacenter applicable standards and certification requirements 
  • datacenter installation, commissioning and operations requirements 

Connector & Component Design 

• Lead the technical definition and qualification of electrical connectors, terminations, and interface components that integrate VEIR’s cryogenic systems with conventional power infrastructure. 
• Drive/support component-level design reviews, failure mode analysis (FMEA), and qualification test planning for all electrical interface hardware. 
• Work with procurement and supply chain to identify and qualify connector and component suppliers that meet VEIR’s performance and reliability standards.  

Standards, Compliance & Test 

• Establish and maintain VEIR’s electrical compliance framework, identifying applicable standards (NEC, NFPA 70E, IEC 61439, IEC 62271, UL 508A, and relevant datacenter standards including TIA-942 and Uptime Tier requirements) across the design, test, and deployment lifecycle. 
• Translate regulatory and customer-specific requirements into testable design constraints and acceptance criteria for VEIR subsystems and integrated products. 
• Lead or support AHJ interactions, third-party inspections, and listing/approval processes for VEIR electrical systems. 
• Define and maintain system-level electrical test plans and acceptance test procedures (ATPs) for factory and field use. 

Cross-Functional Technical Leadership 

• Act as the internal technical authority on electrical integration questions, providing guidance to product, systems, and applications engineering teams. 
• Represent VEIR’s electrical engineering perspective in customer-facing technical discussions, proposal development, and pre-sales support. 
• Contribute to VEIR’s IP strategy by identifying patentable innovations in electrical interface design and integration methodology. 
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to building VEIR’s electrical engineering capability as the team scales. 

To be successful in this role... 

You bring: 

• 12+ years of professional electrical engineering experience, with a significant portion in high-power datacenter or mission-critical facility environments. 
• Direct experience with hyperscale or colocation datacenter electrical distribution systems, including MV switchgear, transformers, UPS, PDUs, and busway. 
• Deep working knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 70E, IEC 61439, IEC 62271, and UL standards applicable to power distribution and switchgear. 
• Hands-on experience designing, qualifying, or specifying high-current electrical connectors and interface components. 
• Experience developing and executing factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) for electrical power systems. 
• Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred; candidates with equivalent demonstrated expertise will be considered.

• Ramp up on VEIR's cable systems architecture, including system interfaces, installation methods, performance requirements, LV power distribution topology, and data center application use cases. 
• Develop deep familiarity with VEIR's existing cable specifications, design tradeoffs, and constraints across conductor types, connectors, busbars, and insulation systems. 
• Conduct voice-of-customer (VoC) discovery with data center operators, electrical contractors, and internal applications and commercial teams to validate cable system requirements and pain points. 
• Perform competitive and ecosystem analysis of the data center power electronics landscape, including LV distribution equipment suppliers (busbars, cable conductors, switchgear) and key industry players. 
• Create initial product strategy and business case documents covering target use cases, technical requirements, cost targets, pricing assumptions, and certification obligations. 

In the first 6 months you'll

• Own and maintain product requirements and specifications for VEIR's cable systems, defining fault current ratings, voltage drop budgets, ripple limits, connector interface requirements, and applicable compliance standards (UL, NEC, IEC, IEEE). 
• Lead NPI stage-gate execution for cable systems products, ensuring designs progress from concept through prototype, validation, and commercial readiness, actively negotiating requirements and tradeoffs with engineering. 
• Partner closely with electrical, mechanical, systems, and manufacturing teams to ensure cable designs are optimized for performance, reliability, scalability, supply chain availability, and field installation. 
• Drive UL and relevant certification activities for cable systems products, working with engineering and third-party test labs to plan, execute, and document certification programs. 
• Serve as the technical product expert for commercial and applications teams, supporting customer conversations, technical evaluations, and early pilot deployments. 

By the end of the first year you will have

• Defined and executed the product roadmap for VEIR's cable systems portfolio, balancing near-term pilot delivery commitments with longer-term platform evolution toward medium-voltage capability. 
• Successfully driven one or more cable systems products through launch or pilot deployment, meeting MVP performance, cost, certification, and reliability targets. 
• Established clear, differentiated value propositions for VEIR's cable systems versus conventional alternatives in the data center power delivery market. 
• Developed and maintained technical product collateral including specification sheets, installation guides, compliance documentation, and sales enablement materials. 
• Acted as the cross-functional product leader, aligning engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and commercial teams around shared cable systems priorities and milestones. 

To be successful in this role

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; advanced degree a plus. 
• 5–10 years of combined experience in electrical engineering and hardware product management, with direct experience in power electronics or low-voltage power distribution systems. 
• Deep, hands-on knowledge of low-voltage power distribution hardware, including cable conductors, busbars, and connectors is required; medium-voltage experience strongly desirable. 
• Strong understanding of AC/DC electrical architectures used in data center power delivery, including distribution topologies, switchgear integration, and server rack power paths. 
• Strong command of the data center power electronics ecosystem, including familiarity with major suppliers and the competitive landscape across LV distribution equipment. 
• Demonstrated experience defining and negotiating technical requirements and product specifications for NPI power electronics products, including fault current ratings, voltage drops, ripple specifications, and porting and connection interface requirements. 
• Hands-on experience managing NPI stage-gate lifecycles for physical hardware, from early concept through commercial launch. 
• Direct experience leading or supporting UL certification programs for power electronics or LV electrical hardware; familiarity with NEC and IEC standards. 
• Experience translating customer and application requirements into clear, testable product specifications in collaboration with engineering teams.

• Establish a working relationship with the commercial corporate marketing team, to serve as the subject matter expert for product-related inputs for website content and active social media content. 
• Develop a prioritized marketing deliverable plan with timelines and ownership aligned to VEIR’s stage-gate process milestones.

• Own and deliver the SL Series launch marketing collateral set: application notes, reference designs, technical white papers, data sheets, guide specifications, and support brochures. 
• Develop and execute the SL Series launch strategy in collaboration with the Principal PM and the Commercial team. 
• Draft and iterate product marketing plans, including KPIs and deliverable timelines. 
• Work with commercial corporate marketing to define product marketing campaign deliverables and timelines 
• Build and maintain a competitive intelligence library covering VEIR's primary competitive alternatives across data center and transmission applications.

• Own the full VEIR stage-gate process product marketing deliverable set across both SL and ST Series programs, including product detail pages (PDPs), conference papers and presentations, product-related trade show materials, and product demos. 
• Establish a repeatable product marketing process that scales with VEIR's growing product portfolio and commercial pipeline. 
• Serve as the subject matter expert for product-related social media content calendar and website update cycle in close partnership with corporate marketing.

To be successful in this role

• You'll bring 5+ years of experience in product marketing, technical marketing, or a closely related function — preferably in hardware, energy technology, or deep tech. 
• You'll have demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling content for both technical and non-technical audiences.

In the first 3 months you'll

• Gain a deep understanding of VEIR’s current EHS policies
• Respond to safety events
• Build strong working relationships across with VEIR’s cross functional Project, Engineering, Product teams and learn about VEIR’s technology and novel safety considerations pertaining to its product, its superconducting technology, and data center environments.

In the first three months you will... 

• Develop a deep understanding of VEIR’s medium voltage cable technology, termination units, and cryogenic cooling systems. 
• Learn about VEIR’s current and future product offerings, performance characteristics, and system integration requirements. 
• Build foundational knowledge of VEIR’s target markets, including utility, renewable, and data center power distribution applications. 
• Shadow customer and partner meetings to observe how VEIR positions its technology and communicates technical value. 
• Begin developing familiarity with electrical schematics, protection and control diagrams, and substation interconnection design practices. 

In the first six months you will... 

• Take ownership of technical scoping conversations with customers and partners, identifying where VEIR’s medium voltage technology can be applied. Specifically identifying compatible substations equipment to interconnect our cables. 
• Review and interpret customer design packages (one-lines, site plans, protection and control schemes) to assess integration opportunities. 
• Collaborate with VEIR’s engineering and product teams to translate customer needs into defined technical requirements and early project concepts. 
• Support the development of technical presentations, application notes, and customer proposals. 
• Contribute to pilot opportunity identification by mapping VEIR’s capabilities to upcoming customer or market projects. 

By the end of your first year you will... 

• Serve as the primary technical liaison for selected customer engagements or pilot projects. 
• Lead design reviews and integration discussions with EPCs, utilities, and data center engineering teams. 
• Help guide the engineering and product teams in refining system designs based on customer feedback and field insights. 
• Represent VEIR at customer sites, industry events, and design meetings to advocate for the adoption of VEIR’s technology. 
• Contribute directly to securing VEIR’s first medium voltage pilot or commercial project, helping bring superconducting cable solutions to market. 

To be successful in this role... 

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Civil or Mechanical Engineering considered with relevant experience). 
• 5-10 years of experience in electrical design or field engineering related to medium voltage systems (sub 69kV), substation design, or power transmission & distribution. 
• Familiarity with one-line diagrams, and electrical interconnection design and protection and control schemes. 
• Experience specifying and selecting substation switchgear.  
• Experience supporting construction or project execution activities (EPC, owner’s engineer, or similar).

The Role 

 We are seeking a Vice President of Engineering to lead, scale, and strengthen VEIR’s engineering organization. This leader will oversee all engineering functions including LN Infrastructure, Heat Transfer, and Superconducting Systems. They will be responsible for driving execution, building organizational capability, and ensuring VEIR’s technology meets the ambitious performance, reliability, safety, and manufacturability requirements of our customers. 

This is a critical hire for VEIR’s next chapter. The ideal candidate is a deeply technical engineering leader who can operate at system-level altitude, develop robust engineering operating mechanisms, and build and mentor a world-class team in a fast-moving, first-of-its-kind technology environment. 

What You’ll Do 

• Develop and execute a comprehensive engineering strategy aligned with VEIR’s business objectives, product roadmap, and commercialization timelines. 
• Provide strong technical leadership and guidance across Cryogenic Infrastructure, Heat Transfer, and Superconducting Systems, cultivating a culture of innovation, high performance, and continuous improvement. 
• Build and scale a high-performing engineering organization capable of delivering complex hardware systems. 
• Recruit, mentor, and support engineering managers and individual contributors; set clear expectations; provide actionable feedback; and partner closely with People Leadership on professional development.

Year 1 Expectations 

First 3 Months:

• Gain a deep understanding of VEIR’s technology stack, engineering organization, and product development lifecycle, from cryogenic infrastructure to HTS cable systems and system integration. 
• Build strong working relationships with engineering managers, technical leads, Product Management, and Commercial teams. 
• Conduct a comprehensive assessment of engineering capabilities, processes, tools, documentation, and resourcing gaps. 
• Begin establishing clear expectations for engineering execution, communication norms, and decision-making cadence. 
• Develop a point of view on organizational structure, hiring needs, and the engineering roadmap required to support VEIR’s near-term product goals. 

First 6 Months:

• Become the full point leader on all VEIR product development activities, owning engineering execution, risk management, and cross-functional integration. 
• Execute a hiring plan to expand the engineering organization in partnership with Talent Acquisition and People Leadership. 
• Lead continuous improvements across processes for requirements definition, design reviews, systems engineering, documentation, test planning, and engineering-to-manufacturing handoff. 
• Improve collaboration between Product, Commercial, Manufacturing, and Systems Integration by defining clear interfaces and decision flows. 
• Ensure engineering deliverables consistently meet performance, safety, quality, and timeline expectations. 

By the End of Your First Year: Transform and Position Engineering for Scale 

• Build a mature product development organization capable of supporting commercialization, customer pilots, and scaled deployment. 
• Design and implement the long-term engineering structure, leadership roles, and technical program management discipline needed to meet growing customer and market demand. 
• Lead the engineering team through major product milestones, including validation, reliability improvements, manufacturability enhancements, and readiness for customer demonstrations. 
• Implement systems that improve execution predictability, reduce rework, and accelerate decision-making. 
• Position the engineering team to deliver against VEIR’s company-wide OKRs and long-term commercialization plan. 

Basic Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field; Master’s or Ph.D. strongly preferred. 
• 15+ years of progressive engineering experience, including 10+ years in senior engineering leadership roles overseeing complex hardware systems. 
• Deep technical understanding in one or more relevant domains: high-temperature superconductors, power transmission systems, cryogenics, process equipment, thermal management, controls, or related disciplines. 
• Demonstrated experience building and scaling multidisciplinary engineering teams. 
• Strong familiarity with industry standards and regulatory frameworks related to power delivery, electrical infrastructure, and high-reliability systems. 
• Experience working in or closely with the data center, energy, power systems, or utility industries. 
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to engineers, executives, customers, and board members. 
• Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, comfortable with ambiguity, rapid decision-making, and balancing short-term execution with long-term strategy. 
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
