The Opportunity

Teneo is seeking a fixed-term Public Affairs advisor to join our Strategy and Communications team in Hong Kong SAR.

This role focuses on advising select clients on public affairs, policy, regulatory engagement, and stakeholder strategy, particularly where business objectives intersect with government policy, regulatory change, and broader geopolitical dynamics. Hong Kong SAR is a highly visible, fast‑moving environment, requiring strong judgement, political and regulatory literacy, and the ability to advise senior leaders through complex and sensitive situations.

The role will suit candidates with proven experience advising on the Greater China public affairs landscape, corporate affairs, policy advisory, or closely related fields, whether from consultancy, in‑house, or adjacent professional services environments.

Responsibilities

Public affairs and policy advisory 
•    Advise clients on public affairs, regulatory, and policy‑related issues relevant to Hong Kong SAR and the wider Asia‑Pacific region.
•    Support clients in anticipating and responding to political, regulatory, and stakeholder developments that may impact business operations or reputation.
•    Contribute to stakeholder mapping, policy analysis, and engagement strategies aligned to client objectives.

Stakeholder, issues strategy and execution 
•    Support the development of integrated stakeholder engagement strategies across government, regulators, industry bodies, and other relevant audiences.
•    Advise on issues preparedness and response, ensuring clients are positioned credibly and constructively in sensitive or high‑risk situations.
•    Support the development of public affairs strategies, including research, policy analysis, and scenario planning.
•    Translate complex policy and regulatory developments into clear, actionable advice for senior client leadership.

Narrative
•    Develop narratives and messaging that support public affairs objectives, including briefing materials, position papers, executive talking points, and thought leadership.
•    Work with communications specialists to ensure alignment between public affairs strategy and broader reputation management efforts.

In addition, you will be expected to:
•    Work as a core member of integrated client teams, supporting public affairs and policy advisory engagements across Hong Kong SAR and the region.
•    Help ensure consistently high standards of delivery by supporting project coordination, research, and quality assurance.
•    Contribute ideas and analysis that inform client strategies, drawing on policy, regulatory, and stakeholder insights.
•    Engage actively with the wider Teneo team to build skills, share knowledge, and support the firm’s public affairs work across Asia Pacific.

Requirements
•    Bachelor’s degree or higher in public policy, political science, international relations, law, economics, communications, or a related field.
•    Approximately 5–7 years’ experience in public affairs, policy advisory, corporate affairs, or related roles, either in consultancy or in‑house.
•    Strong understanding of Hong Kong SAR's political, regulatory, and stakeholder environment, with awareness of regional and global dynamics.
•    Experience advising clients or internal stakeholders on policy, regulatory, or government‑related issues.
•    Ability to synthesise complex political or regulatory developments into clear, practical advice.
•    Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing executive‑level briefing materials.
•    Strong project management and organisational skills.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
•    Cantonese language capability is essential.

Senior Associate, Strategy & Communications

The Opportunity
As Teneo continues to grow its presence across the Greater Bay area, we are seeking a Senior Associate to join their Strategy and Communications team in Hong Kong SAR.
This is an excellent opportunity for a driven, commercially minded communications professional to build a long‑term career within a global advisory firm, working at the intersection of corporate reputation, financial communications, and complex stakeholder environments.
Based in Hong Kong SAR, this role will support clients across Greater China and the wider Asia Pacific region, with a strong emphasis on integrated corporate communications, financial communications, and investor‑facing mandates. The successful candidate will bring experience advising senior leaders on market‑sensitive issues, financial narratives, and reputational risk.
A Senior Associate at Teneo is responsible for delivering consistently high‑quality client work and plays a pivotal role in managing day‑to‑day account activity. You will be expected to anticipate client needs, identify emerging risks and opportunities, and ensure that work is delivered to agreed standards and timelines. You will also contribute to the development of junior team members through on‑the‑job coaching and active participation in a collaborative, high‑performance team environment.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Associate within Teneo’s Strategy and Communications team in Hong Kong SAR, your role will include:

• Horizon scanning and strategic advisory: Proactively monitor geopolitical, macroeconomic, regulatory, and market developments relevant to Hong Kong SAR and Greater China, providing actionable insight and senior‑level advisory to clients.
• Monitoring and reporting: Track media, financial news, public markets commentary, social media, and stakeholder activity, with a particular focus on issues with potential reputational or investor impact. Contribute to the development of advisory notes, briefings, and research‑driven analysis, and build familiarity with the Hong Kong and regional media landscape.
• Corporate communications: Support senior‑level corporate communications advisory, helping clients articulate and protect their corporate narrative, manage complex stakeholder environments, and respond effectively to reputational risk and emerging issues. This includes development of messaging, executive materials, content and campaign support across traditional, digital, and investor‑facing channels, grounded in rigorous research and insight.
• Financial communications and special situations: Support senior team members in advising clients on financial communications mandates, including earnings support, M&A, restructuring, capital markets activity, and other special situations. Experience engaging with investor relations teams and market‑sensitive disclosure is highly valued.
• Account and client management: Support the effective delivery of client accounts, maintaining strong working relationships with key client stakeholders. Monitor progress against objectives, flag emerging issues, and contribute to clear, structured client communications.
• Thought leadership and content development: Contribute to the development of client thought leadership, corporate profiling, and executive positioning content, with an emphasis on clarity, credibility, and relevance to financial and corporate stakeholders.
• Business development support: Support senior team members with business development activity, including research, insight generation, and preparation of proposals and credentials. Begin building a personal network of professional relationships across the market.

Requirements

• 4 - 6 years of relevant experience in corporate communications, financial communications, investor relations, media, or transaction advisory.
• Demonstrated experience supporting financial communications, investor‑related messaging, earnings, M&A, capital markets, or special situations mandates.
• Strong understanding of the Hong Kong SAR corporate and financial landscape, with experience engaging Hong Kong and regional media.
• Excellent writing skills, with a proven ability to produce clear, accurate, and high‑quality content for senior corporate and investor audiences.
• Experience advising or supporting clients through reputational issues or sensitive communications.
• Fluency in English and Cantonese is essential, with strong written and verbal communication skills in both languages.
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public policy, business, economics, or a related discipline; a postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
• Strong interest in global news, financial markets, and macroeconomic developments.

The Role

We are looking for an Associate Director to join our Hong Kong Financial Advisory team, specifically to support the Restructuring and Insolvency practice. Our Hong Kong business is fully integrated with our Restructuring and Insolvency teams in the International Financial Centres (IFC) namely Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands and Bermuda, and therefore you will be part of the growing IFC team with exposure to cross-border engagements.

This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside some of the most experienced practitioners in the field advising the boards, management teams, lenders and shareholders of companies which are underperforming and/or facing any financial stress.

As an Associate Director in the team, you will have the opportunity to work and lead on a diverse range of engagements across all sectors, with responsibility for leading workstreams, managing junior staff and supporting senior leadership in client-facing delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Client service

• Working as a senior resource on restructuring and insolvency engagements on a day-to-day basis, including managing junior team members as required.
• Preparation of take-on procedures, engagement letter(s) and ensuring adherence to all compliance requirements.
• Manage parts of the engagement, providing support to the senior leadership in managing external stakeholders.
• Leading detailed financial and commercial analysis of businesses to identify key issues, challenges, opportunities and risks in financial advisory mandates.
• Taking a lead role in progressing Hong Kong and cross-border insolvencies including receiverships, court liquidations and voluntary wind-downs.
• Presenting findings clearly in client / court reports.
• Understanding the market, topical issues and our Restructuring propositions.
• Liaise with the engaged legal advisors to understand key aspects of legal documentation and also drive any documentation processes (funding agreements, term sheets, waivers, loan documentation etc.)
• Manage engagement economics and apply financial and risk management.

Knowledge acquisition

• Build client relationship skills, sector knowledge and continue to develop leadership skills.
• Continue to build technical expertise, broader business advisory and people management skills.
• Understand the market, topical issues and our Financial Advisory propositions. Having an interest and appetite to grow in Asia’s R&I market is key.

Business development

• Start to own elements of business development including actively supporting business development activities, building and expending your own contact network and supporting marketing and sales activities.
• Participate in existing business development programmes and key client accounts.
• Identify opportunities to expand jobs as well as opportunities to provide wider Teneo services to existing clients.
• Take responsibility for leading marketing initiatives aimed at specific channels to market, or events.

Key Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in a business or finance-related subject.
• Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA or equivalent), both time and exam qualified.
• 10-12 years of Financial Advisory experience gained either as an advisor within a professional services company, consultancy or investment bank; as an analyst in a debt or special situations funds.
• Very strong analytical skills and an understanding of insolvency legislation (common law) and practice.
• Understanding of financial statements and related data to assess historical financial performance and future outlook for client companies and prospects.
• Good understanding of the Financial Advisory marketplace, its trends, and key players (principals and advisers).
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Strong project management skills, with ability to lead teams and develop people.
• Ability to conduct business in fluent oral and written English is a pre-requisite.
• A self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit to drive and grow the APAC FA business.
• Flexibility to meet peak demands when required and prioritise workload.
• Act with discretion, integrity and professionalism at all times.
