Summary
We are hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Cloud Enablement team, part of Temporal’s Cloud Global Services (CGS) organization.
The Cloud Enablement team is responsible for applying and extending the Temporal OSS replication stack to deliver critical Temporal Cloud capabilities, including High Availability (HA) namespaces, error detection and automated failover, and migration of workloads and namespaces between self-hosted Temporal clusters and Temporal Cloud, as well as within Temporal Cloud.
This is a deeply technical and hands-on leadership role. As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will combine strong people leadership with technical ownership of complex distributed systems. You will actively participate in system design, review code and architecture, and help unblock execution, while building and leading a team that delivers reliable, production-grade cloud features at scale.

What You'll Do
- Lead, grow, and support a team of engineers working on solving core distributed system problems
- Set clear technical direction for the team while aligning execution with CGS and company-wide priorities
- Remain hands-on and technically engaged
- Drive delivery of key Temporal Cloud capabilities, including:
- High Availability namespaces and failover automation
- Migration tooling between self-hosted and cloud Temporal clusters
- Namespace migration within Temporal Cloud for capacity management and data movement
- Establish a strong culture of operational excellence, ensuring features are observable, safe to operate, and production-ready
- Own execution and outcomes: planning, prioritization, delivery, and follow-through
- Partner closely with Product, Infrastructure, Cloud and OSS teams to deliver cohesive solutions
- Mentor and develop engineers, providing technical guidance, career growth support, and actionable feedback
- Lead incident response, postmortems, and reliability improvements for the systems owned by the team
What You'll Bring
- Strong background as a senior or staff-level software engineer before moving into engineering management
- Deep experience building and operating distributed systems with a focus on reliability, scalability, and fault tolerance
- Comfort working hands-on in the codebase, especially in complex, concurrency-heavy systems
- Demonstrated experience leading teams that deliver production-grade cloud services
- Strong understanding of replication, failover, and migration concepts in distributed systems
- Proven ability to drive execution with a bias for action, even in ambiguous or fast-moving environments
- Experience coaching engineers through technically challenging work and operational ownership
- Clear, pragmatic communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
Nice to Have
- Experience leading teams responsible for high availability, disaster recovery, or data migration systems
- Familiarity with Temporal, workflow engines, or event-driven systems
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes-based environments
- Prior experience managing teams that contribute to or maintain open-source infrastructure
Compensation
- The estimated pay range for this role is $268,000 - $305,000
- This role is eligible to participate in Temporal's equity plan
Compensation ranges reflect salary and commission compensation (when applicable) across several geographic markets. Summary
We are currently hiring a Staff Software Engineer in our Cloud Global Services team. The work you will do as a Staff Engineer is key to developing features without complicating Temporal, as the increasing complexity of our systems creates additional challenges.
You will design, build, and maintain significant portions of our backend functionality for Temporal's high-availability services in-region, cross-region, and re: cross-cloud failover.
Working in a highly collaborative team, we’ll look to build a new enterprise offering that will involve both on-premise and dedicated cloud offerings.

What You'll Do
- Design and implement core backend service features for Temporal's high-availability services in-region, cross-region, and re: cross-cloud failover
- Clearly document design choices and operational knowledge to successfully deploy and run services with those features
- Provide appropriate service level logs and metrics to make features operational for cloud service setup
- Provide appropriate alerts, dashboards, and runbooks for production
What You'll Bring
- Rich experience as an "Arranger" and/or "Builder/Enhancer" in large-scale distributed systems design (reliability, scalability). see HERE for more info re: "Arranger" and/or "Builder/Enhancer"
- Operational experience in large-scale distributed systems environments
- Experience developing highly concurrent systems
- Demonstrated experience writing concurrent code (pref. Go, Java) in production as Advanced or Expert levels. see HERE for more info re: Advanced or Expert levels
- Knowledge and experience of reliability so you can further ensure the high reliability of the Temporal system
- Ideas and actions to improve the velocity of the team
Nice to Have
- Experience in multi-region failover efforts in large Cloud services
- Familiarity with Go, other similar languages great too
- Experience with infrastructure environments (strong plus)
Compensation
- The estimated pay range for this role is $212,000 - $286,000 depending on experience and location.

Summary
We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Cloud Enablement team, part of Temporal’s Cloud Global Services (CGS) organization.
The Cloud Enablement team focuses on applying and extending the Temporal OSS replication stack to power critical Temporal Cloud capabilities. As a Senior Engineer, you will work on backend systems that sit at the core of Temporal Cloud’s enterprise offerings. These systems must be correct, reliable, observable, and safe to operate at scale, even in the presence of partial failures, network partitions, and evolving customer workloads. You’ll collaborate closely with other engineers in CGS Replication Foundations, Cloud, Infrastructure, and OSS teams to deliver production-grade features used by customers running mission-critical workflows.What You'll Do
- Design and implement backend features that apply and extend the Temporal OSS replication stack to new Temporal Cloud capabilities
- Contribute to Temporal Cloud High Availability features, including:
- Namespace replication within and across regions and cloud providers
- Monitoring replication health and lag
- Supporting manual and automated failover workflows
- Build and improve namespace migration systems, including:
- Migration of namespaces and workloads between self-hosted Temporal clusters and Temporal Cloud
- Migration between Temporal Cloud environments or regions
- Tooling that supports safe cutover, validation, and rollback
- Own medium-to-large features end-to-end, from design through production rollout and long-term maintenance
- Write clear design documentation describing system behavior, tradeoffs, and failure modes
- Ensure features are production-ready by delivering:
- Service-level logs, metrics, and tracing
- Alerts, dashboards, and operational runbooks
- Participate in operational ownership, including on-call rotations, incident response, and postmortems
- Collaborate with teammates to continuously improve reliability, operability, and development velocity
What You'll Bring
- Strong experience designing and building distributed backend systems with a focus on reliability and scalability
- Hands-on experience operating production systems, including debugging failures and improving observability
- Experience developing highly concurrent systems
- Demonstrated ability to write concurrent production code, preferably in Go (Java or similar languages also welcome)
- Solid understanding of failure modes, replication, and resiliency patterns in distributed systems
- Ability to independently drive work from problem definition to delivery, while collaborating closely with peers and stakeholders
- A mindset focused on building systems that are safe to operate, easy to reason about, and resilient to change
Nice to Have
- Experience with replication, failover, or disaster recovery systems
- Experience designing or operating migration tooling for distributed systems
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and containerized environments (e.g., Kubernetes)
