WZZM-TV Grand, the ABC TEGNA affiliate, is looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Journalist to help maintain our tradition of superior reporting and newsgathering. We are interested in finding a journalist who can create unique, memorable and well written stories, who can share them on all platforms with a mix of outstanding photography and unforgettable editing. If you're a creative storyteller who understands true multi-platform journalism and who is not bound by the methods of traditional TV news – we want to hear from you!
Current driver's license and ability to operate news gathering vehicle to and from various locations is required.
Responsibilities:
- Perform authoritative, compelling live shots in a developing story or in breaking news situations
- Develop story ideas
- Mine the community to find sources who will keep you informed about events and ideas in their areas of expertise
- Ability to identify, write and produce stories within a specific framework.
- Research for facts and credibility.
- Maintain and develop sources who will help bring our reporting to the next level.
- Shoot, write, produce and edit on air and online content within deadlines.
- Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.
- Use social media and digital tools to research, discover and distribute content.
- Attend editorial meetings and offer story ideas daily.
- Write in an exciting, captivating and authentic manner.
Requirements:
- 1-3 years reporting experience preferred.
- Must possess solid news judgment, display strong communication skills, creativity, and ethical decision-making skills.
- Strong writing skills, production skills and tease writing abilities.
- ENPS, EDIUS and Axis graphics experience is preferred.
- Must be organized with the ability to work under constant deadlines.
- Must be able to calmly handle live breaking news situations and changing events.
- Proven social and digital content creation ability.
- Knowledge of Grand Rapids a plus

WZZM 13 On Your Side, the ABC affiliate in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is searching for a dynamic, energetic and engaged Chief Meteorologist to lead our passionate weather team. The ideal candidate thrives in sustained severe weather coverage during major events, while still being able to tell a relevant audience-focused forecast daily. Our next Chief Meteorologist should be as familiar with lake-effect snowstorms as they are tracking tornadoes, predicting flood levels and telling a compelling weather story even on bright sunny days. We seek a true leader who has mastered every aspect of meteorology, from forecasting to preparing graphics, to reporting in the field, to being an integral part of severe weather coverage reaching our community on television, mobile and social media platforms. The Chief Meteorologist must have a passion for winning severe weather and the desire to truly grow and mentor the weather team. She or he needs to be willing to explore new ways to present the weather story while also being a key leader in promoting community involvement.
Responsibilities:
• Work with the News Director to create and implement strategic direction and plan for weather coverage
• Understand the importance of Weather Impact Alert brand and execute it consistently, with urgency, aggressiveness, and the savvy to strike the right tone with each individual event
• Build and deliver daily engaging weathercasts for on-air and digital audiences, including building clean, creative and informative graphics to tell the weather story
• Supervise the weather team, including scheduling, mentoring and setting goals for growth
• Interact live with fans and the audience on multiple platforms, especially during severe or inconvenient weather
• Assist News Director with recruiting and hiring for the weather team when necessary
• Coach and mentor weather team with regular feedback
• Work with the News Director and News Managers to develop plans for severe weather coverage
• Pitches and turn original weather content for all platforms
• Leads coordination and implementation of technological advances related to graphics
• Participates in community outreach efforts including live shots and station appearances
• Coordinate with external agencies, such as the National Weather Service or emergency management organizations, to exchange critical weather information and collaborate on emergency response plans
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in meteorology; AMS Certification; NWA Seal preferred
• Minimum 5 – 7 years of on-air experience
• Demonstrated leadership experience
• Strong communication skills (written/oral)
• Ability to work under pressure while meeting daily assigned deadlines
• Applicable knowledge of multiplatform newsgathering tools and resources
• Be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays when necessary
• Ability to be a team-player and to lead with fairness, clarity and consistency
• Fluent with social media platforms and social management tools, including Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube and Tik Tok

The Multi-Market Commercial Producer is responsible for leading and managing the production of commercial content from concept through completion for a range of clients. This role involves working closely with clients to understand their vision and needs, overseeing project development, managing budgets, and coordinating cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality productions on time and within budget.

Responsibilities:
- Client Management:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the commercial production process.
- Collaborate with clients to understand their goals and needs for commercial production.
- Provide creative direction and guidance to ensure the final product aligns with client objectives.
- Videography & Photography:
- Plan, set up, and execute video shoots for commercials and branded content, ensuring top-notch quality and creativity.
- Capture high-quality still images as needed for projects or client campaigns.
- Operate a range of professional cameras, lighting, and other production equipment.
- Project Planning & Development:
- Develop and present creative concepts, storyboards, scripts, and production strategies.
- Create and manage project timelines, budgets, and production schedules to ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope.
- Work with internal teams, freelancers, and contractors as needed for project execution.
- Production Execution:
- Ability to shoot all aspects of video and content production, including pre-production, shooting, post-production, and final delivery.
- Monitor shoots, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with all legal, safety, and quality standards.
- Ability to edit all aspects of video.
- Budget Management:
- Prepare and manage production budgets, including cost estimations, negotiations with vendors, and budget reconciliation.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficient resource allocation.
- Creative Direction:
- Provide input on creative elements, such as visuals, graphics, animations, and other components to achieve a high-impact commercial product.
- Ensure all content meets brand standards and reflects the client's vision and objectives.
- Post-Production Supervision:
- Oversee editing, audio, color grading, and any special effects work.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3-5 years of experience in commercial production, video production, or related roles.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating successful commercial productions for clients.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in video production tools and software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, After Effects).
- Exceptional communication and client relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of industry trends and an eye for innovative content.
- Experience working with clients from various industries is preferred (e.g., retail, home services, healthcare, legal)
- Familiarity with digital marketing and social media video production is preferred.
- Experience in scripting, directing, shooting, and editing preferred.

We are looking for a proven leader with strong technical judgment, effective communication skills, possessing an understanding of current and future technology needs with a passion for innovation.
The Head of Technology and Operations is responsible for leading the engineering, IT, and production teams that support the overall WZZM-TV Grand broadcast technologies in a 24/7/365 environment.

Responsibilities:
- Managing short- and long-term technology strategy.
- Day-to-day operations including equipment integration, maintenance for the core infrastructure, studios, control rooms, facility, post-production, and transmission for all live programming.
- Oversee compliance with FCC rules and regulations.
- Manage compliance with critical security policies, including account, password security, vulnerability protection, virus protection, untrusted network, and IT incident reporting policies.
- Manage business continuity and disaster/cyber security contingency plans.
- Maintain financial responsibility for the engineering department including expense budgeting, approvals, and reviews.
- Oversee station OSHA compliance.
- Monitor and scrutinize daily on-air technical quality.
- Lead workflow improvements for both on-air and online products.
- Manage vendor contracts including technology, building maintenance, security, and janitorial services.
- Manage leases relating to technology.
- Lead capital planning and submission process for station.
- Lead project planning and project management for station-wide initiatives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education and a minimum of 3-5 years experience in a broadcast operations/technology management role.
- Strong customer service skills and unfailing professionalism. Impeccable written and verbal communication and presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated strong leadership with a focus on team management.
- Understanding of IT processes including security, workflow, and management.
- In-depth knowledge of broadcast technologies including: ENPS, production control room automation, RF transmission, broadcast switchers, router systems, field cameras, and signal path workflows.
- Strong project management experience.
