Through an Employer of Record (EOR), we are looking for a new Director of Software Engineering in India to join our growing IT Team. This individual will report into our VP of IT and lead our engineering organization into its next phase of growth. This role is equal parts strategic leadership and hands-on influence, shaping how we build, scale, and deliver systems that power a high-impact e-commerce business. You’ll define the technical vision, develop strong engineering leaders, and ensure our platforms are reliable, scalable, and built for the future. Base Salary: $65,000 – $92,000 USD per year
Responsibilities:
Shape the future of our technology
- Define and execute a multi-year engineering and architecture strategy aligned with company goals
- Guide system design and architectural decisions to support scalability, performance, and resilience
- Oversee Site Reliability Engineering to ensure operational excellence and system uptime
Lead and grow high-performing teams
- Manage and develop Engineering Managers and senior technical leaders
- Set clear expectations, provide coaching, and build a culture of accountability and growth
- Strengthen leadership bench through mentorship, succession planning, and hiring
Drive execution and delivery at scale
- Ensure consistent, high-quality delivery across multiple teams and large-scale initiatives
- Establish and track engineering metrics to improve performance, quality, and team health
- Own resource planning and align budgets to support strategic priorities
Partner across the business
- Collaborate closely with Product, Operations, and business leaders to prioritize work and deliver impact
- Align engineering efforts with customer needs and business outcomes
Build the future team
- Lead hiring efforts for Engineering Managers and senior engineers
- Develop and maintain a strong talent pipeline to support continued growth
Requirements:
- 15+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, including 10+ years leading teams and managing managers
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and align multiple teams around shared goals
- Experience designing and delivering complex, scalable systems in cloud environments
- Strong foundation in system design, architecture, and modern engineering best practices
- Technical depth across:
- Backend: Java, Spring Boot, microservices architecture
- Databases: MySQL, Oracle, Redis
- Frontend: JavaScript, React, TypeScript, modern frameworks
- Mobile: Flutter or native iOS/Android development
- Experience leveraging AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude) to improve engineering productivity
- High-level proficiency of written and verbal communication in English
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading or partnering closely with Site Reliability Engineering teams
- Familiarity with modern DevOps and infrastructure tools (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Linux/Unix, Nginx, Apache, ELK stack)
- Background in e-commerce, supply chain, or other high-transaction environments
- Masters or advanced degree in a technical or business field

Responsibilities:
Project Management
- Manage the planning, execution, and delivery of projects that enhance our ecommerce website, mobile app, and back-of-office software.
- Assist in defining scope, goals, key milestones, and timelines.
- Gather work estimates, build roadmaps, and drive momentum towards meeting project objectives by delegating tasks, coordinating project activities, and tracking progress on deliverables.
- Continuously measure overall project performance to identify areas for improvement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with software engineers, product managers, third-party vendors, and key business stakeholders to craft dynamic technical plans, ensuring goal achievement and efficient delivery of customer and business value.
- Support team members by removing roadblocks and facilitating collaboration between technical and non-technical teams.
Communication, Stakeholder Management, and Meeting Facilitation
- Serve as a point of contact and ensure proactive, clear, and comprehensive communication across product teams including developers, business stakeholders, and leadership.
- Keep project management software and documentation up to date.
- Prepare agendas and facilitate meetings effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment among stakeholders and technical team members.
Risk Management
- Proactively identify and escalate risks, issues, and dependencies, and assist in developing mitigation strategies.
Process Improvement
- Evaluate, analyze, suggest, and implement process improvements to the project workflow, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and timely execution.
Incoming Product Request/Bug Portal Coordination
- Assist with our internal product request process to add new features, update existing features, and fix bugs on our customer-facing ecommerce website and back-of-office software by clarifying and prioritizing requests from around the business amongst shifting priorities, demands, and timelines, and funneling work through the appropriate teams.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, or related field
- 2+ years of project management experience working with product managers, software developers, UX designers, and quality assurance engineers
- Experience in a software development environment and knowledge of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
- Knowledge of different project management frameworks including waterfall, agile, and hybrid
- Experience with project management and/or development software (e.g. Jira, Confluence, Coda, Monday.com, Asana, etc.)
- Strong leadership skills with effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, ensuring clear, concise, and confident communication across departments and levels of the business
- High level of emotional intelligence
- Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills, showcasing the ability to multitask and re-prioritize as needed
- High-level proficiency of written and verbal communication in English
Preferred Qualifications:

- High-level proficiency of written and verbal communication in English
