The Head – UAS and Autonomous Systems will lead STI’s strategic and technical efforts in uncrewed and autonomous aviation systems. This role is designed for a technically strong leader who is comfortable operating in early-stage R&D environments, translating advanced research into practical capabilities, and scaling promising technologies into sustained programs.
The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams while managing a diverse portfolio of government-funded research programs, prototype development efforts, and commercial aerospace engagements.
The role combines technical leadership, program oversight, and strategic growth, with responsibility for advancing STI’s position in the rapidly evolving UAS and autonomous aviation ecosystem.

It is expected that this position will include domestic travel up to 30% and possible international travel. If this position is filled by a fully remote employee, proposed travel will include regular visits to the STI main facility located in Hawthorne, CA.
To conform to U.S. Government aerospace technology export regulations (ITAR and EAR), applicant must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. For this position we are targeting a base pay between $170,000 – $200,000 negotiable. Our compensation packages will also include a performance bonus, ESOP (Employee owned company) and 401k contribution. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

What You’ll Do:
The Senior Research Engineer executes a variety of specialized, technical research and development activities. Such activities may include data analysis, model development and other related technical activities, developing general R&D software tools to increase company capabilities, and documenting work in appropriate company and customer reports. May assist in training and providing guidance to less experienced staff members. This position may also contribute to business development activities under the supervision of the project leads and is capable of interfacing with customers with support from the project team. Reports to a Principal Research Engineer.

What You’ll Do:
The Principal Research Engineer executes a variety of highly specialized/technical, business development and leadership activities. This individual provides advanced expertise in the areas of modeling, simulation and/or flight control. This person submits government proposals and is involved in commercial client outreach via networking at conferences and meetings. In addition, this person is responsible for leading commercial consulting contracts. The Principal Research Engineer also manages multiple contracts that involve tracking budgets, ensuring successful deliverables, and managing junior engineers. This person actively engages in company process development and participates in BD related activities. This individual may supervise, and mentor select staff engineers. Will report to the Director of Engineering Services.

What You'll Do:
We are seeking a Business Development – UAS leader to drive growth specifically in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) with a focus on flight control systems, autopilots, guidance, navigation, and autonomy-enabled products. This role is not a general aerospace business development position—it is tightly focused on building funded development programs and scalable commercial products around STI’s core flight control and autonomy capabilities. We expect this role to include a significant amount of government relations. Candidates with a strong background in government interactions are strongly preferred.
Success in this role is defined by the ability to convert early technical engagements and SBIR-funded efforts into sustained government and commercial programs, including Phase III contracts, follow-on development, and productized offerings.

What You’ll Do:
This sales leadership position is responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities all while achieving monthly sales goals and building strong relationships within the United States. This individual qualifies, negotiates, and closes each project from start to finish, brings in our clinical specialist in the process, including establishing the installation/training schedule, negotiating change orders, and ensuring payments are made timely in full. Reports to the CMO with a dotted line to the CEO
