The Role 

As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in elevating our quality practices. You will be an expert within our engineering organization, deeply understanding product and systems. This role will balance hands-on individual contributor responsibilities along with leading, influencing, and coaching your peers.

This senior individual contributor role is for someone who is passionate about seeing systems holistically, has a vision of quality, and is eager to drive and ensure the highest standards of quality and stability. You will leverage your deep understanding of the product and complex system integrations to guide and influence our development process.

Your role is not to manage a team, but to be a quality champion who partners directly with developers, helping them to see different aspects of their features, anticipate risk, and build more robust, scalable, and reliable software. What You Will Own 

• Own and drive end-to-end testing strategy for complex distributed systems, proactively identifying risks, integration challenges, and performance bottlenecks while establishing clear quality vision across the product.
• Implement quality-first processes that embed testing considerations early in the development lifecycle, collaborating with Product, Design, and Engineering teams from ideation through delivery.
• Provide quality focused input on testability, scalability, and reliability during ticket grooming and feature discussions, offering insights on product resilience and usability considerations while defining and championing product-focused quality standards and engineering best practices.
• Design and execute integration testing strategies and performance testing for distributed systems, with experience in service virtualization and ability to build pragmatic solutions using engineering principles
• Champion shift-left quality culture by mentoring developers on testing principles and TDD, clear acceptance criteria, early validation and fast feedback loops. Partner with teams to identify systemic quality challenges and create improvement plans
• Maintain data-driven quality management by implementing comprehensive metrics and KPIs to assess team maturity, track system health, and demonstrate measurable impact of quality initiatives across the product.
• Drive innovative quality engineering approaches, taking full accountability for successful execution and adoption across our product development teams.
• Ability to work with ambiguity, proactive in designing solutions based on data when non currently exists
  

Required Qualifications 

• 7+ years of progressive software engineering experience with deep focus on quality engineering in complex, distributed system environments.
• Proven track record as a senior software engineer with strong quality mindset and ability to influence technical direction through innovative, pragmatic approaches.
• Exceptional systems-thinking mindset toward quality challenges, with natural ability to see integration complexities, performance implications, and reliability concerns across the product.
• Outstanding engineering problem-solving skills with talent for creative approaches to quality challenges, root cause analysis of complex system behaviours, and innovative solutions that go beyond traditional testing.
• Excellent technical communication and collaboration skills to effectively guide and influence engineering peers through deep technical expertise and strategic quality insights.
• Genuine curiosity and passion for understanding product architecture, user experience flows, and business impact of engineering decisions.
• Strong programming skills with hands-on experience building and contributing to testing infrastructure and test automation frameworks using tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium or similar.
• Deep experience designing performance and scalability testing strategies using engineering creativity to solve unique system challenges.
• Strong database and data architecture knowledge (SQL/NoSQL) for comprehensive system verification, test data management, and quality validation strategies across complex data flows

The Role 

You have an uncanny knack for problem solving and you have a sharp product mindset. Our Tech Leads are involved in all aspects of the software design process and create high-performing, scalable, and secure products. This is a hands-on technical role, with no people management responsibilities.

As the most senior technical person in your team, you’ll be hands-on in the solution and code, working alongside Product, Design, Quality, Platform, Security and your team to design solutions that power a new market-leading Analytics platform. You aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo and define solutions that sit outside of existing patterns, especially where reliability, security, and repeatability are critical to customer success.

In this role you will own the engineering foundations of StarRez’s Analytics & Reporting capabilities, leading the development of a new Analytics product and the implementation of a new cloud data warehouse. You will lead the build of the data model integration layer, including automated customer schema provisioning, user provisioning, and Single Sign-On (SSO) integration (SAML/OIDC) to deliver a seamless and secure customer experience. You will also uplift existing ad-hoc reporting and analytics tools, and assist with improving the StarRez database schema, working closely with Data Analysts, Engineers and Product Managers to align the platform to best practice and analytics readiness.

With deep knowledge of your domain and programming language, you not only understand how choices made in software design and architecture affect areas like performance, maintainability, testability, observability, and security, you teach and promote this knowledge to others within and across teams. You are hands-on and keep up to date with the latest .NET and web technologies.

Required Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar
• You have held a Technical Lead (or similar role) for at least 2 years
• You have worked to improve, modernise and decompose large codebases
• Demonstrated experience creating products and features from the ground up, and successfully taking them through to production
• Experience working on SaaS platforms at scale
• Demonstrated experience designing and building integration-heavy systems (APIs, automation, workflows) with a focus on reliability and security
• Experience implementing identity and access patterns, including SSO (SAML/OIDC), role/group mapping, and least-privilege access models
• Strong database fundamentals and practical SQL experience; comfortable designing safe schema changes and performance-minded data access patterns
• An inclination towards communication, inclusion, and visibility
• Deep knowledge of .NET ecosystem (framework 4.6+ / .NET 6+)
• Web technologies – C#, MVC, HTML, JavaScript, CSS etc
• Experience with testing frameworks in C#
• Azure SQL
• Git

Preferred Qualifications 

• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps principles
• Proficiency with one or more public cloud providers such as Azure, AWS or GCP
• Experience building foundations for modern analytics/data platforms and cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric)
• Experience with data pipeline tooling and patterns (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Snowflake Openflow, Fivetran, dbt, or similar tools)
• Familiarity with multi-tenant SaaS analytics patterns (tenant isolation, RBAC, auditability, and data access controls such as row-level security where applicable)
• Strong operational mindset: observability/monitoring, runbooks, incident response, and production support readiness for GA launches
• Accessibility & accessible UI development (WCAG/ARIA)

• Experience implementing and maintaining comprehensive test suites (unit, integration, E2E)
• Proven ability to optimize applications for performance, scalability, and security
• Experience with database design and optimization (MySQL, MongoDB)
• Proficiency with version control workflows preferably git and collaborative development processes
• Excellent problem-solving skills with analytical and systematic approach

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience with NestJS and NextJS frameworks.
• Knowledge of containerization (Docker) and Kubernetes orchestration

• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation

As the most senior technical person in your team, you'll be hands-on in the solution and code, working alongside Product, Design, Quality, Platform, Security and your team to design right-size solutions to build our Products. You aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo and define solutions that sit outside of existing patterns.

With deep knowledge of your domain and programming language, you not only understand how choices made in software design and its architecture affect areas like performance, memory management, maintainability and testability - you teach and promote this knowledge to others within and across teams.You are hands-on and keep up to date with the latest .NET and web technologies. 

Required Qualifications 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar

• You have held a Technical Lead (or similar role) for at least 2 years

• You have worked to improve, modernise and decompose large codebases

• Demonstrated experience creating products and features from the ground up, and successfully taking them through to production

• Experience working on SAAS platforms at scale

• An inclination towards communication, inclusion, and visibility

• Deep knowledge of .NET ecosystem (framework 4.6+ / .NET 6+)

• Web technologies –⯠C#, MVC, HTML, JavaScript, CSS etc

• Experience with testing frameworks in C#

• Azure SQL

• Git

Preferred Qualifications 

• Accessibility

• Knowledge of containerisation technologies

• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps principles

• Proficiency with one or more public cloud providers such as Azure, AWS or GCP

What You Will Own 

• Development, maintenance and support of a C# NET application 
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers and other stakeholders within Australia and internationally to meet customers’ needs 
• Write maintainable code following SOLID principles and adhering to development standards
• Implementing team quality practices, and participating in code reviews
• Collaborate with team members in an agile/scrum environment to deliver high-quality solutions

Required Qualifications 

• 3+ years of commercial experience building production-grade software applications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar 
• Knowledge of .NET ecosystem (framework 4.8+ / .NET 8+) 
• Web technologies – C#, MVC, HTML, JavaScript, CSS etc 
• Understanding of SOLID principles and applicable design patterns
• Experience implementing and maintaining tests (unit, integration, E2E), and knowledge of the testing pyramid.
• Proficiency with version control workflows preferably git and collaborative development processes
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Curiosity and a growth mindset; proactively seeks learning opportunities.
• You are passionate about product and shipping value to customers

Preferred Qualifications 

• Exposure to AWS or Azure cloud services and infrastructure.
• Experience with observability tools (Datadog APM, logging, monitoring)
• Ability to safely refactor existing code; applying appropriate testing practices.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation.
• Exposure to SRE practices including observability, and performance monitoring.

• Designs and builds robust APIs, considering backward compatibility and error handling.
• Experience implementing and maintaining comprehensive test suites (unit, integration, E2E)
• Proficiency with version control workflows preferably git and collaborative development processes
• Experience with observability tools (Datadog APM, logging, monitoring)
• Excellent problem-solving skills with analytical and systematic approach
• Shows curiosity and a growth mindset; proactively seeks learning opportunities 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Familiarity with AWS or Azure cloud services and infrastructure
• Experience profiling and optimizing applications for performance, scalability, and security
• Ability to identify valuable refactoring opportunities; applying appropriate patterns to de-risk changes
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines and DevOps automation, utilizing infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
• Experience implementing accessibility standards and relevant development/testing practices
