APPRENTICE WELD SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

We are currently seeking to fill a weld support technician position at our Texas Test Site. This position requires skills in a specialized trade in order to complete welding requirements and operational needs. The position is responsible for executing the activities of the weld support team (plasma programming/operating, saw, material movements in and around the shop, and cross-training across these functions).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform tasks such as: plasma table programming, operating a band saw and chop saw, manually drilling and milling materials, etc.
• Analyze engineering drawings to determine dimensions and tolerances of cut parts
• Obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits, or certifications as required
• Make a continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly
• Work with leaders to complete the assignment/project, solve problems, meet deadlines, and review issues for consistent improvement
• Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure an efficient and effective work environment

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate’s degree or certification from a 2-year technical school
• Experience with hand tools and blueprint reading (experience gained through a 2-year college or technical program counts)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• 1+ years of experience with plasma table programming/operating
• Ability to use measuring instruments of all types
• Experience working in cutting or machining operations
• Experience in a high-mix, low-volume (job shop) manufacturing environment
• Knowledge of standard tools, materials, motions, and practices of the welding trade
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and effective safety precautions of the trade
• Ability to rapidly change focus while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Working conditions may be in tight quarters; physical dexterity is required
• Ability to work while standing up to 8 hours, kneeling, crouching, twisting the upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings, and climbing hand over hand
• Able to lift heavy objects up to 45 lbs unassisted
• Ability to work on ladders, lifts, and at elevated heights (up to 300 feet) with proper personal protection equipment (PPE)
• Able to respond to emergencies to support priority projects, missions, and launches
• Available to work extended hours and weekends as needed
• Able to work in extreme outdoor environments when needed – heat, cold, wind, rain, etc.
• Able to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
• Ability and willingness to travel nationally for up to four weeks – travel will be less than 15%

MECHANICAL ENGINEER, TEST HARDWARE FABRICATION

As a mechanical engineer on the Test Hardware Fabrication team, you will have the opportunity to solve challenging, open-ended problems related to the fabrication and safety of ground support/test equipment in McGregor, TX. The ideal candidate will be a positive team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a deep understanding of design-for-manufacturability, and has a desire to seek out and solve manufacturing inefficiencies. You will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge, experience, and creativity to develop, implement and optimize tooling solutions to positively impact the daily safety and efficiency of fabricators and test technicians through your new/novel designs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and implement tooling and fabrication aids for a wide range of structural, mechanical, and fluid projects focused on increasing build safety, accelerating fabrication timelines, improving quality, and ensuring the as-built product meets engineering requirements
• Work cross-functionally with key stakeholders to minimize/eliminate safety risks, increase work center efficiency and comfort, and drive innovative solutions to solve open-ended problem sets with minimal oversight
• Identify, recommend, procure, and assist in the activation of new fabrication technologies across site to enhance capabilities, accelerate builds, and reduce fabrication costs
• Attend design reviews and provide feedback to engineering partners to help expedite the fabrication/build schedule, specifically focusing on the design-for-manufacturability, lift planning, and build sequencing for detailed parts and large assemblies
• Partner with production planning, material planning, design engineers, machinists, technicians, and quality personnel to ensure processes are robust and any fabrication issues are quickly solved
• Rapidly and accurately disposition fabrication issues using experience and strong engineering fundamentals with minimal oversight
• Leverage feedback from technicians and engineers to drive improvements for work instructions and fabrication processes/planning

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, materials, or other engineering discipline
• 1+ years of experience performing fabrication, assembly, and/or testing in a production or test environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Previous experience working in a test, manufacturing, and/or production environment
• Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software and 2D drawings creation and interpretation
• Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing with a keen understanding of fabrication methods across multiple engineering disciplines (mechanical, structural, fluids, etc.)
• Familiarity with inventory, production, and capacity planning (including MRP/ERP systems)
• Ability to conceptualize, design, draft and build piece parts and complex assemblies
• Experience with design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA)
• Experience writing work instructions and procedures for critical aerospace parts
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal oversite
• Excellent written and communication skills

CNC MACHINIST, MULTI-AXIS - LEVEL 4/5 (2ND SHIFT)

We are seeking skilled professionals to produce precision parts and components for tooling assemblies and ground support equipment, ensuring every piece meets exact design specifications through programming, setup, and operation of advanced machines. You will also maintain the critical equipment and supplies that support every phase of launching the world's most advanced rockets. RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances, machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes and milling machines
• Support metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing, using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties, and mathematics
• Machine precision fixtures, tools, and products from drawings, in accordance with established procedures, with limited supervision
• Set up machines to precise tolerances and operate various types of machinery following established procedures
• Measure, inspect, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers, surface plates, and other inspection equipment
• Set up and operate metalworking and cutting equipment
• Clean and maintain machines, tools, and equipment
• Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly
• Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment
• Ability to set up, operate, and program multiple machines and processes at a time

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalency certificate
• 2+ years of experience setting up and operating a 5-axis or 7-axis CNC machine
• 1+ years of CNC programming experience

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

• 6+ years of experience on multi-axis lathes and mills, including setup, operation, and minor program edits
• Experience with the operation of drill presses, grinders, and other related equipment
• Experience using multi-axis CNC programming software such as Mastercam or Aspire
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting
• Experience using manual mills and lathes
• Aptitude in spatial reasoning, attention to detail, and skilled craftsmanship
• Experience with open setup inspection, including the use of manual inspection tools as well as CMMs or other automated inspection equipment
• Experience and understanding of the processes needed for a production environment, such as Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, etc.
