About The Role

You will join the System on Chip (SoC) Design Team at SK hynix memory solutions America, a group dedicated to delivering best-in-class controllers for high-performance SSDs. This team spans the full design cycle—from micro-architecture and RTL design to timing closure and tapeout readiness—enabling next-generation enterprise and AI data center storage solutions.

Responsibilities

• RTL design (Verilog/SystemVerilog) for IP based on existing module or new specifications.
• Collaborate, create clear documentation and communication with Design Verification, Silicon Validation, and Firmware teams to ensure design quality.

About the Role

As a Staff Security Firmware Test Developer, you’ll be the technical owner of security validation for enterprise SSD firmware — designing, building, and executing test strategies that ensure our drives meet the highest standards for data protection, compliance, and interoperability.

You’ll work at the intersection of firmware, hardware, and security protocols — validating features like Secure Boot, TCG OPAL, SPDM Firmware Attestation, Caliptra 2.1, and OCP NVMe Security Requirements across FPGA and ASIC platforms.

You’ll lead test automation, debug complex failures, and drive quality from design to production — ensuring our firmware is not just functional, but secure by design.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end security validation for enterprise NVMe SSD firmware — from architecture review to production sign-off — ensuring compliance with Secure Boot, TCG OPAL, SPDM Firmware Attestation, Caliptra 2.1, and OCP NVMe Security Requirements.
• Design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks that validate security features across FPGA and ASIC platforms, enabling rapid regression and continuous integration.
• Debug and root-cause complex security failures — working closely with firmware, hardware, and security architects to resolve issues at the protocol or implementation level.

• Proven experience validating at least 3 of the following:

• Develop test plans for specific device/system under test based on NVMe/OCP specifications, PRD and Customer requirements.

• Familiarity with fundamental NVMe concepts such as Admin and IO commands, Log Pages, Power loss protection, Controller Level Resets, and Out-of-Band interface.
• Familiarity with storage test methodologies for NVMe, OCP, and PCIe requirements.
• Experience working with enterprise servers in Linux, ESXi, and Windows Server OS environments.
• Proficient with developing automating test scripts (Preferred languages: Python, C/C++, Bash).

Job Description

We are looking for a hands-on, experienced, self-motivated, and team oriented Senior Hardware Development Manager to drive development, validation and testing of existing and next generation Solid State Memory Drives. As a Senior Hardware Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of professional hardware engineers, interface with local cross-functional teams (Software/Firmware, Chip/SoC development and validation/quality) and collaborate with parent company (Korea) design teams to create top in class HW products. This role is based on-site full-time in San Jose, CA. Please note that candidates must be bilingual in English and Korean to be considered.

Responsibilities:

• Hiring, mentoring, and managing performance of hardware engineers.
• Play a major role in the HW architecture design, validation and test of each program.
• Managing schedules, resources, and budgets for all HW programs.
• Leading hardware design (PCB, SI/PI, mechanical/thermal, test and validation) through the entire lifecycle.
• Partnering with firmware, ASIC/SoC development, Test/Validation and  Korean development teams to ensure seamless product development and validation.

About the Team

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced ASIC Design Engineer to join our ASIC design team. • Design, build, and maintain sophisticated automated test scripts and frameworks using Python to drive regression suites and CI/CD pipelines.
• Execute functional, endurance, and stress tests on enterprise SSDs (U.2/U.3, EDSFF) to maximize coverage.
• Configure and maintain enterprise server hardware (Dell, HPE, Supermicro), including BIOS/UEFI, RAID controllers, and networking setup.
• Analyze test results, log defects in JIRA, and drive root-cause analysis for complex system-level failures.
• Manage OS installations and configurations across Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu), Windows Server, and VMware vSphere/ESXi environments. Virtualization experience is a PLUS.
• Stay current with emerging storage protocols and integrate AI/ML tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude) to optimize test generation and defect prediction. AI/ML tools development and know-how is a PLUS.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in QA automation and systems validation, specifically focusing on enterprise storage or server systems.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python and Shell/Bash scripting for lab automation and test orchestration.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Deep understanding of SSD architecture, NVMe/PCIe protocols, and file systems (ext4, XFS, NTFS).
• Proficiency with IO generation tools such as FIO, VDBench, IOMeter or other equivalent tools.
• Advanced experience with VMware lifecycle management (cloning, migrating, and troubleshooting VMs). Virtualization Knowledge is a PLUS
• Experience utilizing generative AI or automation intelligence to enhance test development. AI env/setup/deployment know-how is a PLUS

COMPENSATION: $50.00 – $70.00 per hour

Job Responsibilities: 

• FTL (Flash Translation Layer) design, implement and debugging.
• Design, implement, and evaluate real-time embedded system firmware for SSD products.
• Perform firmware code review, analysis and improvement.
• Perform firmware focused SSD system integration, performance profiling, validation and debugging.
• Perform failure analysis and corrective firmware actions via collaboration with other stakeholders until issue resolution.

Desired Skills and Experience:

• BS in either Computer Science or Electrical Engineering; MS is preferred.
• 3+ years of hands-on FTL development experience in SSD..
• 5+ years of development experience in embedded controller environments.
• Proficient in firmware and software programming (C/C++, assembly, script languages)
• Experience with at least one storage protocol; PCIe/NVMe, SATA, SCSI
• Experience in the NAND flash storage device application and/or testing is a plus but not required
• Experience with firmware debugging tools such as JTAG and In-Circuit Emulator.
• Experience with multi-ARM core based development is a plus.
• Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem- solving environment.
• Ability to jump into different areas of the system for investigation and analysis
• Good verbal and written skills for communication and documentation.
• Self-motivated, good team player.

COMPENSATION: $200,000 - $240,000
