We are seeking a mission-aligned Systems Integration Engineer to serve as the critical bridge between our core engineering teams and real-world tactical deployments.
This role sits at the intersection of Platform Integration, Requirements Management, and Technical Execution and will play a critical role in supporting Shift5’s next phase of growth.
This is not a purely theoretical engineering role. It requires technical fluency in hardware/software integration, ownership of formal government artifacts (CDRLs/SDRLs), and the executive presence to serve as a primary technical interface for DoD customers and certification authorities.
Lead and execute the integration of Shift5 hardware into complex customer platforms, including cabling design and A-kit development.
Own the system-level technical baseline across assigned programs, ensuring all hardware and software meet rigorous compliance standards.
Partner closely with hardware, software, cyber, and integration teams to coordinate cross-discipline technical execution.
Drive measurable impact in program success by developing and managing formal systems engineering artifacts, such as V&V Plans and System Architecture documents.
Identify and act on opportunities to improve technical risk management and dependency tracking across the product lifecycle.
Navigate the complexities of government acquisition, supporting formal technical reviews like SRRs, PDRs, and CDRs.
Contribute directly to mission assurance by performing system-level analyses, including Weight & Balance, Electrical Loads, and FMECA.
Establish a strong technical foundation by mastering the Shift5 architecture and integrating with key stakeholders across the engineering organization.
Build organizational credibility by taking ownership of technical baseline documents and contributing to the design of platform-specific integration kits.
Drive high-quality technical delivery by leading the development and internal review of formal CDRL artifacts for government programs.
Improve system reliability and compliance by defining robust verification strategies and overseeing system-level testing to ensure airworthiness and safety standards are met.
Serve as a trusted technical authority for system-level decisions, independently managing requirements and providing clear technical positions to customer PMOs.
Experience in systems, integration, or mechanical engineering (3+ years), ideally within the aerospace, defense, or high-reliability electronics sectors.
Demonstrated ability to interpret system schematics, generate detailed harness drawings, and manage requirements (SRDs, SRSs, ICDs).
Strong analytical and technical skills in configuration management, system-level analysis (FMECA, ELA), and CAD tools like SolidWorks.
Comfort operating in DoD environments and familiarity with environmental qualification standards such as MIL-STD-810, 461, and 704.
Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Requirements: Ability to travel up to 25% to support customer site integrations and testing.

As a Proposal Manager, you will lead the development of compelling, compliant, and high-quality DOW proposals that drive Shift5’s growth in government markets. You’re the owner of the proposal lifecycle, from initial kickoff through compliance reviews and delivery, ensuring our responses resonate with evaluators and articulate why Shift5 is the partner of choice for defense customers. You’ll collaborate closely with capture, product, engineering, finance, legal, and executive leadership to deliver winning proposals.

Own and manage the full proposal lifecycle for DOW opportunities, including RFPs, RFIs, white papers, BOAs, OTAs, SBIR/STTR, and unsolicited proposals.
Serve as the single-threaded owner for proposal execution, including schedules, outlines, compliance matrices, reviews, and final submissions.
Lead proposal kickoffs, color reviews, and final production reviews to ensure high-quality, on-time deliverables.
Collaborate closely with capture, business development, engineering, product, finance, legal, and executive leadership to develop winning storylines and technical narratives.
Translate complex technical solutions into clear, persuasive proposal content that highlights Shift5’s value and differentiators.
Partner with capture and BD to shape win themes, discriminators, and messaging strategies aligned with evaluator priorities.
Ensure strict compliance with solicitation requirements, evaluation criteria, and formatting instructions.
Coordinate inputs from subject matter experts, executives, and external partners throughout the proposal process.
Develop, curate, and maintain reusable proposal content, templates, and best practices to support scalability and consistency.
Support post-submission activities, including Q&A responses, clarifications, and proposal debriefs.
Fully own proposal lifecycle from kickoff to submission.
Manage multiple simultaneous bids.
Improve submission quality and compliance consistency.
Establish a 6–12 month proposal maturity roadmap.

5+ years of experience managing DOW or federal government proposals and RFP responses.
Deep understanding of DOW acquisition processes and compliance requirements (FAR/DFARS).

Experience with OTAs, CSOs, or other non-traditional DOW vehicles.

This is not a theoretical R&D role. It requires technical fluency in PCB design, ownership of the full hardware development lifecycle, and the Relentless Innovation needed to solve the toughest problems facing the transportation and defense industries.
Lead and execute the full hardware development lifecycle, from component selection and schematic capture to PCB design and layout.
Own the design and rigorous testing of electrical boards to demanding military and aerospace standards (MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, etc.).
Partner closely with interdisciplinary teams to create compact, cost-effective, and high-performance assemblies.
Drive measurable impact in hardware reliability by building and testing prototypes that meet strict safety and performance specifications.
Identify and act on opportunities to improve existing systems through deep analysis and iterative design enhancements.
Navigate the complexities of an AS9100/ISO9001 certified environment and ensure adherence to IPC standards.
