About the Platform Team
The Platform team empowers other engineering teams at Shakepay by providing the tools, infrastructure, and best practices they need to be autonomous, productive, and reliable. As the Platform Engineering Manager, you’ll ensure we balance fast delivery with operational excellence.
About the Role
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead and grow a team of platform engineers with a focus on Infrastructure, SRE and DevOps .
This role is responsible for people leadership, technical direction, and delivery across platform initiatives that impact every engineering team at Shakepay. You’ll partner closely with Engineers, Engineering leaders, Security, and Compliance, and lead by example, staying hands-on where it matters to shape technical decisions, support delivery, and ensure our platform evolves in step with both developer and business needs. You’ll also play a key role in developing an agentic layer of the platform, building intelligent tooling and agentic workflows that automate repetitive work, assist engineers in complex tasks, and enable teams across the company to interact with systems and data in new ways
You don’t need to be the deepest expert in every area, but you must be technically strong enough to set direction, challenge assumptions, and make tradeoffs across DevEx, infrastructure, and reliability.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of platform engineers across Infrastructure, DevOps and Developer Experience.
- Set technical direction for platform architecture and ensure roadmap execution
- Balance short-term delivery with long-term investments in tooling, infrastructure, and reliability
- Oversee cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and operational tooling in a regulated environment
- Design and build AI-powered internal tools and agentic workflows that automate tasks and augment engineering productivity
- Improve developer productivity by reducing friction in onboarding, CI/CD, and local-to-prod workflows
- Ensure systems are secure, scalable, observable, and resilient as Shakepay grows
- Own incident management practices, postmortems, and sustainability of the on-call rotation
- Collaborate closely with product engineering, security, and compliance stakeholders
- Advocate for platform work by tying technical initiatives to business and customer impact
Who We’re Looking For
- 10+ years of experience in platform, infrastructure, DevOps or SRE roles
- 3+ years managing and growing high-performing teams
- Familiarity with technologies like Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, ArgoCD, Datadog, PostgreSQL, CI/CD tooling, and GitOps
- Experience operating production systems and supporting on-call rotations
- Ability to set technical direction across both developer experience and infrastructure
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a focus on business impact
- Comfort using AI tools in your day-to-day workflow to accelerate development, debugging, and learning
Bonus points
- Experience in fintech or other regulated environments
- Prior experience as a Staff or Senior Engineer before moving into management

The base salary range for this position is $209,000-$253,000 CAD. Base pay may vary based on factors such as years of experience, skills and qualifications. Staff Software Engineer
Imagine shaking your phone to instantly earn bitcoin. Our customers might think it’s magic, but if you’re reading this you probably know that it’s not (or is it?). It’s not. It’s our stellar dev team that makes it happen. That shaking idea started as a secret easter-egg for our fledgling customer base, and once word got out about it, we suddenly had to deal with service outages from too many people shaking at the same time.
Of course we’ve since solved that problem, and now with over one million shakers (aka “customers''), it’s a core part of our identity - not the shaking, but the idea that we came up with something new and exciting in the slow and boring world of financial services. Staff Product Designer
As a Staff Product Designer, you’ll drive design direction across key areas of the Shakepay product, tackling our most complex and ambiguous challenges. You’ll operate as a force multiplier—raising the bar for craft, influencing product strategy, and helping teams ship better, faster.
You won’t just design experiences—you’ll shape what we build and how we build it. You’ll work across teams, partnering with Product and Engineering leadership to ensure we deliver cohesive, high-quality experiences at scale.

- 8+ years of experience designing and shipping high-quality consumer products

- Ability to operate at multiple levels—from systems and strategy to detailed execution

Design Engineer
As a Design Engineer, you are the ultimate bridge between design, product, and engineering.
You don't just design features; you build them. We are leaning heavily into a design-led product development approach, and in this role, your primary focus will be taking complex problems, designing intuitive solutions, and writing the code to prototype or ship them to our customers rapidly.
If you are a builder who loves living at the intersection of pixel-perfect design and production-ready code, this is for you.
What you’ll be doing
- Own problems end-to-end: Take full ownership of product features from understanding the problem, to designing the experience, to writing the front-end code and shipping it to users.
- Prototype in code: Replace static mockups with functional prototypes to validate ideas quickly and de-risk decisions with real customer feedback.
- Drive design-led development: Work in a fixed-time, variable-scope environment. Focus on outcomes over outputs, partnering closely with backend and core engineering to deliver meaningful impact.
- Ship fast without sacrificing quality: Balance speed and craft. Deliver polished, production-ready experiences on tight timelines, with strong attention to detail in both design and code.
- Elevate the UI architecture: Evolve our design system and component libraries so design and code stay perfectly in sync across mobile and web platforms.

- Proven hybrid experience: You’ve shipped real products where you owned both the design and code implementation (e.g. React Native, Node, Typescript, Vue.js etc.).

About the Platform Team:
The Platform team empowers engineering teams and other functions at Shakepay by providing the tools, infrastructure, and best practices they need to be autonomous, productive, and reliable.
As a Staff Platform Engineer, your mission is to shape and evolve the internal platform that powers engineering across Shakepay. You’ll operate at a company-wide level, designing foundational systems and platform capabilities that enable teams to build, ship, and operate software quickly and reliably.
You’ll play a key role in defining the architecture and long-term direction of our developer platform - improving engineering velocity, reliability, and operational excellence across the organization.
This includes helping build an agentic layer of the platform, developing intelligent tooling and workflows that automate repetitive work, assist engineers in complex tasks, and enable teams across the company to interact with systems and data in new ways.
You’ll work closely with engineering leadership and product teams to ensure our platform scales with Shakepay’s growth and continues to enable teams to ship with confidence.
The base salary range for this position is $214,000+CAD. Actual compensation is determined based on skills, experience, and role level. Exceptional candidates may be considered above the top of the range, and pay can increase quickly for those who make a big impact in the role.
What you’ll do:
- Define and evolve the architecture of Shakepay’s internal developer platform
- Design and build foundational infrastructure that supports our growing systems and teams
- Lead the development of internal tooling and automation that significantly improves developer productivity
- Architect and implement infrastructure-as-code and GitOps practices across the platform
- Build and evolve observability systems including monitoring, alerting, and dashboards
- Design and implement AI-powered internal tools and agentic workflows that automate operational and development tasks
- Improve system reliability, scalability, and performance across our production environment
- Partner with product and infrastructure teams to drive best practices in system design and operations
- Lead technical initiatives that span multiple engineering teams
- Mentor engineers and guide technical decision-making through design reviews and architecture discussions
- Influence the long-term technical direction of our infrastructure and platform ecosystem
- Contribute to incident response and drive improvements to operational resilience
What we’re looking for:
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, SRE, or DevOps roles
- Strong programming experience (e.g., Go, Python, JavaScript, or similar)
- Deep experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems
- Extensive experience with infrastructure-as-code and automated deployment systems
- Experience designing internal platforms or developer tooling used by multiple teams
- Experience improving developer experience and engineering velocity through platform improvements
- Experience building tools or workflows that leverage AI/LLMs to automate tasks or augment developer productivity
- Strong system design and architectural thinking
- Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives across teams
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- A pragmatic mindset focused on solving real business problems

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who wants to own meaningful systems end to end and help shape how we build as a team.
This role is for engineers who enjoy responsibility, thrive in ambiguity, and care deeply about building high-quality software that ships to production and holds up under real-world use.
About the role
As a Senior Software Engineer at Shakepay, you will work on product and platform systems that move real money and impact millions of users. You will collaborate closely with Product, Design, and other engineers to define problems, design solutions, and deliver them to production.
You will be expected to operate with a high degree of ownership and judgment, from early design through launch and long-term reliability.
The base salary range for this position is $170,000- $220,000 CAD. Actual compensation is determined based on skills, experience, and role level. Exceptional candidates may be considered above the top of the range, and pay can increase quickly for those who make a big impact in the role.
In this role, you will:
- Take ambiguous, high-impact problems and drive them from idea to production.
- Partner closely with Product and Design to define scope, trade-offs, and execution plans.
- Design, build, and evolve production systems with a strong focus on reliability, correctness, and maintainability.
- Balance speed and quality, knowing when to move fast and when to slow down.
- Share ownership of the systems you build, including on-call responsibilities and incident response.
- Contribute to technical and product decisions that shape the direction of your team
- Help raise the bar for how the team builds by improving standards, tooling, and processes.
Who we’re looking for
This is a Senior role. We’re looking for someone who has demonstrated ownership of production systems and is comfortable making decisions with real consequences.
You likely bring:
- Strong product and customer judgment. You care about what is being built and why.
- Proven ownership of features or systems running in production, including reliability and on-call responsibility.
- Comfort working through ambiguity and making thoughtful trade-offs with incomplete information.
- A steady desire to improve your craft and the systems around you.
- Curiosity, pragmatism, and a bias for action.
- Active use of AI tools in your day-to-day workflow to accelerate development, debugging, and learning.
- Comfort reading legacy code and not immediately rewriting it all.
Technical experience
You likely have experience with several of the following:
- Backend development using Node.js and TypeScript
- Relational databases such as Postgres
- Operating production systems with observability and monitoring (eg. Datadog)
- Working in containerized or cloud-based environments
- Comfort reviewing AI-generated PRs with the same skepticism you’d apply to a human PR.
Nice to have, but not required:
- Mobile development with React Native
- Experience building financial, payments, or crypto-related systems
- Experience in high-growth or fast-moving product environments
