Become an Urgent Care Veterinary Assistant – Wheaton, IL
Position Summary
As a Veterinary Assistant at Scout, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our clinical team and ensuring a smooth, efficient experience for pets and their people. You’ll assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care, maintain a clean and organized environment, and help deliver exceptional service during urgent visits.
Key Responsibilities
- Support veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures
- Safely restrain animals and assist with diagnostics and sample collection
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of exam rooms, equipment, and common areas
- Prepare medications and supplies as directed
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners
- Assist with patient intake, discharge, and follow-up care
- Uphold Scout’s standards for safety, empathy, and teamwork
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience in a veterinary or animal care setting
- Strong animal handling skills and comfort with urgent/emergent cases
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Preferred:
- Veterinary Assistant Certification or coursework
- Experience in urgent care or emergency veterinary settings
- Familiarity with veterinary software and digital records
