Position Summary
Rubicon is seeking an experienced carbon market science and technical leader to support the growth of its project, investment, and portfolio activities across Asia, and the surrounding region. Reporting to the Head of Asia & Head of Asset Management with a dual reporting line to its Chief Science Officer in the US, this role will provide technical leadership and expertise across carbon project screening, due diligence, project design, portfolio management, and market-facing technical positioning.

This role requires deep expertise across both nature-based and technology-based carbon pathways, with strong grounding in methodology understanding and application, project design and implementation, MRV and dMRV, registry requirements, technical risk assessment, and market integrity frameworks. The successful candidate will combine scientific rigor with practical delivery experience, strong commercial judgment, and the credibility to engage effectively with developers, registries, auditors, ratings agencies, investors, and customers. Frequent international travel is expected for this role. 

Role location is flexible, with a strong preference for candidates based in Singapore 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across carbon projects spanning avoidance, reduction, and removal pathways, including both nature-based and technology-based solutions.
• Assess project design, baseline setting, additionality, leakage, permanence, monitoring plans, quantification approaches, uncertainty treatment, and delivery risk.
• Advise on methodology selection, applicability, interpretation, implementation, and where relevant, opportunities for methodology refinement or development.
• Lead or support technical due diligence for investments, project partnerships, and offtake opportunities, including review of PDDs, monitoring reports, validation and verification findings, and key technical assumptions.
• Support Asset Management of portfolio projects by identifying technical underperformance drivers, implementation bottlenecks, issuance risks, and mitigation measures.
• Work closely with project developers and implementation partners to strengthen project quality, monitoring systems, and issuance readiness
• Maintain strong working knowledge of major carbon standards, registries, and relevant program rules, including Verra, Gold Standard, ACR, CAR, ART, Puro, and other relevant mechanisms
• Monitor and interpret evolving carbon market integrity frameworks, including ICVCM CCP, ratings agency frameworks and criteria, and broader market expectations on project quality
• Work with the Rubicon Science team SMEs on the use of dMRV, remote sensing, GIS, sensor-based data systems, and other technology-enabled monitoring approaches to improve transparency, efficiency, and quality control
• Assess field implementation realities and technical execution risks, including data quality, operational capability, land tenure, local stakeholder engagement, FPIC, and audit readiness
• Support evaluation of project suitability for different market pathways and buyer use cases, including voluntary market applications and relevant Article 6 or jurisdictional considerations where applicable
• Partner closely with Science, Investments, Sales, Trading, and Asset Management teams to translate technical complexity into actionable investment, portfolio, and commercial decisions
• Contribute technical input to customer and commercial discussions, including quality positioning, methodology choices, delivery expectations, and risk implications
• Build and maintain strong relationships across the carbon ecosystem, including developers, standards bodies, registries, validation and verification bodies, ratings agencies, and technical advisors

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with relevant PhD or master’s degree preferred, such as environmental science, forestry, ecology, engineering, climate science, geospatial science, soil science, chemistry, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
• At least 7 years of relevant experience with at least 3 years in carbon markets, climate project development, carbon science, MRV, methodology development, technical due diligence, or related fields
• Deep understanding of major carbon credit pathways across both nature and technology, and how methodologies are designed, applied, and implemented in practice
• Hands-on experience in carbon project design, development, implementation, monitoring, validation, and verification
• Strong familiarity with key standards, registries, and market mechanisms, including Verra, Gold Standard, ACR, CAR, ART, Puro, and related frameworks
• Strong command of high-integrity carbon market principles, including additionality, baseline setting, quantification, permanence, leakage, uncertainty, and double counting
• Familiarity with ratings agency frameworks, quality assessment approaches, and how external quality signals affect project risk, portfolio value, and customer suitability
• Practical understanding of dMRV developments, geospatial tools, remote sensing, field data systems, and technology-enabled monitoring approaches
• Experience identifying and managing technical, implementation, and issuance risks across different project types and geographies
• Strong understanding of stakeholder engagement, safeguards, local community considerations, and FPIC in project development and implementation
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to connect technical rigor with investment, portfolio management, contracting, and customer needs
• Established network across the carbon market ecosystem in Asia and ideally globally
• Ability to operate credibly across technical, commercial, and executive audiences
• Multilingual skills - specifically in Bahasa, Mandarin, or Hindi - are a significant plus.

Key Responsibilities:

Origination & Investment

• Originate and assess carbon project investment opportunities across key pathways, APAC geographies, and counterparties
• Build and actively manage a pipeline of high-quality opportunities including offtakes, prepayments, strategic partnerships, and other capital solutions
• Evaluate project quality, commercial attractiveness, counterparty strength, implementation feasibility, and portfolio fit
• Develop investment cases, financial models, valuation frameworks, and transaction materials to support decision-making

Structuring, Negotiation, and Completion

• Lead transaction processes from origination through diligence, structuring, internal approval, contract negotiation, documentation, and closing
• Structure and negotiate commercial arrangements with developers and sellers, including term sheets, purchase agreements, and partnership frameworks
• Work closely with internal teams to assess methodology fit, delivery timelines, issuance risk, and customer relevance
• Support the development of scalable investment and financing strategies to secure high-integrity supply through the Rubicon platform

Stakeholder Management

• Build and manage sustainable relationships with developers, project sponsors, investors, financial institutions, development finance actors, and other relevant market participants
• Maintain an informed view of market developments including buyer preferences, pricing dynamics, integrity trends, registry developments, carbon insurance policies, bankability considerations and relevant policy trends. 
• Represent Rubicon credibly in the carbon market and broader climate finance ecosystem.

Cross-Functional Leadership

• Partner closely with Science, Asset Management, Sales, Trading, and Strategy teams to translate opportunities into executable transactions with credible future deliverability 
• Contribute to portfolio construction and supply strategy discussions across the business
• Operate effectively in a lean, fast-moving environment with a strong sense of ownership and accountability

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with relevant graduate (MBA, MPA, etc) or master’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
• 10–15+ years of relevant client-facing deal making experience with 5-7 years+ in carbon markets, climate finance, project investing, infrastructure, commodities, structured finance, or related fields
• Deep expertise in carbon markets, including project pathways, quality guardrails, offtake structures, supply and demand dynamics, and key diligence considerations such as delivery and issuance risk
• Working knowledge of relevant carbon market standards, registries, and evolving market frameworks, including international climate policy (UNFCCC, Paris Agreement, etc.)
• Significant experience originating, structuring, negotiating, and executing complex multi-million dollar commercial transactions, with a focus on environmental commodity transactions with corporate buyers
• Broad business development experience, including pipeline management and closing sales; experience assessing project, counterparty, and transaction risk and driving opportunities through to close
• Track record of working and negotiating with senior international clients in the public and private sector
• Experience with portfolio management of carbon assets
• Familiarity with global financial markets, development finance institutions, banks, investors, and structured or blended capital solutions

Key Responsibilities

Customer Relationship Development

• Consult with C-level executives to understand decarbonization goals, procurement priorities, risk considerations, and carbon market needs in order to develop and implement an effective, enterprise-wide strategy that maximizes the value delivered by Rubicon Carbon
• Created, build and grow relationships with enterprise and strategic customers across Asia, including regional and global accounts
• Drive customer expansion by identifying new use cases, follow-on opportunities, and multi-year partnership potential

Business Development & Sales Execution

• Build and actively manage a high-quality pipeline through a combination of self-generated opportunities, inbound interest, referrals, and coordinated team efforts
• Lead the sales process from prospecting through qualification, proposal development, negotiation, and close
• Customize commercial proposals and solution packages based on customer needs, internal constraints, and portfolio availability
• Maintain forecast discipline, pipeline hygiene, account planning, and strong visibility on deal progress and conversion outlook
• Help refine aspired customer profiles, account prioritization, and go-to-market approaches to maximize commercial traction in Asia

Market & Solution Positioning

• Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the carbon market, including major project pathways, integrity considerations, customer claims sensitivities, and evolving buyer preferences

Required Skills and Experience

• At least 7-10 years of experience in enterprise sales, business development, strategic account management, or commercial origination, preferably involving complex solutions for large corporate customers 
• Carbon market sales experience strongly preferred, adjacent experience in climate solutions, environmental commodities, energy transition, sustainability services, or structured commercial solutions also relevant
• Strong consultative selling capability with the ability to engage C-level and senior stakeholders
• Experience selling innovative or emerging solutions into large enterprises and navigating complex internal buying processes

Position Overview
As a Carbon Projects Asset Manager, you will report to the Head of Asia & Asset Management. You will oversee the operational, technical, and financial performance of Rubicon’s carbon assets to ensure they achieve their original investment objectives and deliver value to external clients. You will be responsible for assessing, managing, and reporting on Rubicon’s carbon project assets, initially focused on Rubicon’s NBS removals project investments globally. You will work with Rubicon’s Science, Investments, Trading, and Strategy teams to provide technical support and problem solve with Rubicon’s partner developers to achieve overall NBS portfolio performance goals. This is a new role to Rubicon and requires an agile, analytical self-starter who can continuously identify ways to add value to the organization and reshape the role accordingly.

Key Responsibilities
Asset Performance & Delivery

• Maximize operational performance from Rubicon’s carbon project assets
• Track project progress, asset health, issuance outlook, and delivery expectations across the portfolio
• Analyze data related to asset performance and expected delivery from carbon assets, and own all reporting requirements related to project performance, including status, risks, and expected delivery, for internal and external stakeholders
• Support implementation of tools, frameworks, and operating processes that strengthen asset management discipline across a growing portfolio 

Project Oversight & Risk Management

• Identify ongoing project risks, including implementation, delivery, regulatory, legal, political, and counterparty risks, and work with project partners on mitigation strategies
• Collaborate to manage and resolve legal, contractual, regulatory, and operational issues as they arise, ensuring compliance with projects’ governing documents
• Coordinate with internal teams and stakeholders on project milestone delivery and related finance deployment in line with investment agreements and portfolio requirements
• Maintain a strong understanding of industry developments, operating best practices, and relevant tools or platforms that can improve asset monitoring and management

Technical & Quality Coordination

• Work closely with Rubicon’s Science and Supply teams, as well as project developers, to support sound project implementation, monitoring, and long-term asset performance
• Partner with the Science team to support implementation of dMRV protocols, geospatial tools, and other monitoring approaches where relevant to improve visibility on project performance
• Work closely with Science and Supply teams to monitor project alignment with relevant quality, safeguards, and market frameworks, including registry requirements, social and biodiversity safeguards, FPIC expectations, and external quality benchmarks
• Help assess technical and operational risks affecting credit quality, issuance readiness, and long-term portfolio value

Stakeholder & Commercial Support

• Lead day-to-day stakeholder relationships with project developer partners and serve as internal source of truth on project asset health and performance
• Support Sales and Trading teams commercialization of project forward carbon credits through materials creation, select client / prospect calls, inventory management, etc.
• Prepare high-quality presentations, updates, and insights for senior leadership and board audiences
• Ensure cross-functional alignment across Science, Supply, Commercial, Finance, Legal, and Asset Management teams
• This role may require occasional international travel to project sites depending on project and partnership needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, forestry, ecology, engineering, finance, or a related discipline
• At least 7-10 years of relevant experience in asset management, project operations, infrastructure, renewables, natural capital, or related real-asset environments, with at least 3-5 years of experience in carbon markets or environmental markets, including project delivery, carbon asset oversight, or related operational roles
• Strong knowledge of the carbon credit market, including project implementation, the carbon credit lifecycle, key standards, methodologies, monitoring requirements, and delivery risks
• Familiarity with major registries, market frameworks, safeguards, FPIC, and project quality considerations; prior operational experience in solar, wind, or other environmental commodity industries a plus
• Demonstrated experience managing complex infrastructure project operations and stakeholder relationships across project partners, internal teams, and external counterparties
• Ability to understand financial models and assess how operational performance affects investment outcomes
• Understanding of legal contracts, accounting, and contract negotiations
• Strong analytical, project management, and organizational skills, including experience with large project budget management and monitoring
• High proficiency in Excel and familiarity with operational and collaboration tools such as Asana and G-Suite; familiarity with GIS, remote sensing, dMRV, or other monitoring systems preferred
