The Role: 

We are hiring an Embedded Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. The ideal candidate is an experienced engineer who is not only a strong team player but can also mentor colleagues. To support collaboration and team engagement, this role is performed on-site at our Boston office. The Embedded Engineer will have the opportunity to collaborate across teams while maintaining our embedded platform services. You will have a major impact on PFF’s embedded consumer products.  This is an individual contributor role reporting to the VP, Software Engineering. 

What You'll Do: 

• Develop the embedded firmware platform for current and next generation of PFF products for high throughput embedded processing.
• You will be responsible for applying solid software engineering design patterns and best practices needed to evolve and expand the core codebase to deliver new ideas and technical innovations into products that continue to delight our customers and set the satisfaction bar higher
• Design, develop and refactor real-time software architectures and modular software components
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define, design, test and maintain embedded platform’s services.
• Mentor and coach colleagues to expand the effectiveness of those around you.
• Assure a high standard of quality in your own work and in the work of others on your team via good coding practices, process improvements, clean designs, smart testing and review practices.

What You Bring: 

• Bachelor Degree in CS, related or equivalent experience
• 5+ years real-time embedded software engineering experience in a multi-threaded Linux environment
• Deep Proficiency in C and C++ programming for a Linux runtime environment
• Experience developing embedded devices with a RTOS such as FreeRTOS a plus
• Solid understanding about ARM specification, computer architecture, operating system
• Experience in boot code, device drivers, CPU & SOC initialization 
• Able to read and write scripts in common languages, Bash, Python, etc
• Knowledge of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi radio communication protocols
• Experience with embedded peripherals such as Ethernet, I2C, I2S, SPI, and USB
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Experience in troubleshooting hardware using Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer.
• Proficient in the use of common source code control and defect tracking systems (Jira & Git)
• Strong ability to work within team structure, planning and deliverables. architecture

The Role

Piaggio Fast Forward (PFF) is looking for a Mechanical Engineering machinist to join our team. In this role, you will take ownership of the machine and assembly shop, ensuring it is well-maintained, organized, and stocked. You will work collaboratively with the Mechanical team for the in house prototyping of parts, create fixtures for the Design team, and support the Manufacturing team with part reworks or assembly fixtures. On a daily basis you will primarily be interacting with the Mechanical engineering team, therefore strong communication skills and ability to communicate technical part machining information are necessary. This is an hourly position for an individual contributor role reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager.

What You Need (Requirements)

• High School diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or technical certificate in engineering technology, or a related field is preferred
• Machine shop skills : experience including but not limited to mills, lathes, laser cutter, drill press, bandsaw, dremel, jigsaw, sawsall
• 2 - 5 years hands on experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment preferred
• Strong work ethic and a go-getter attitude; able to work independently 
• Eagerness and willingness to learn new skills and new tools
• Ability to interpret 2D engineering drawings to ensure part compliance
• CAD experience is a plus
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 70 pounds as well as stand for long periods of time

Applicants will be asked to provide a portfolio or examples of projects completed.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

• Daily work on the mill, lathe, metal saw, and precision measuring
• Mill work for aluminum hog out parts or unique prototype to match drawing spec provided from engineering
• Lathe work for precision steel drive shafts for prototyping purposes
• Create basic carpentry structures for pseudo rooms / wall fixtures for robot behavioral studies based on sketches
• Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition; General shop upkeep
• Ownership of the machine shop space
• Manage inventory of tools, hardware, shop supplies, etc.
• Utilize purchase request system to keep MDF stocked, coordinate basic hardware orders for shop nuts & bolts bins, order parts for machine repairs 
• Perform routine maintenance on shop equipment to ensure in good working order
• Safety training for using equipment (mill, lathe, bandsaw); assist in general safety knowledge outside of machine guards and for eye wash stations and fire extinguishers locations
• Assembly and disassembly of complex mechanical mechanisms, including test fixtures
• Other responsibilities as needed

The Role: 

We are hiring a Senior Robotics Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. The ideal candidate is an experienced engineer who is not only a strong team player but can also mentor colleagues. This is an on-site role with the expectations of 5 days a week in the Boston office. The Senior Robotics Engineer will have the opportunity to collaborate across teams while maintaining and building the systems that enable our robots. You will have a major impact on PFF products. This is an individual contributor role with in office requirements in Boston, reporting to the Director, Robotics Engineering. 

Requirements: 

• Total of 4+ years of robot localization experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 2+ with a Master’s. The degree should be in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject. 
• Proficiency with C/C++, Python.
• Expertise designing and implementing localization algorithms, e.g. SLAM, particle filters, Kalman Filters, etc. 
• Experience working with a variety of robot sensors, e.g. lidar, stereo cameras, RGB cameras. 
• Strong Experience with Linux based embedded computers, Nvidia Jetson preferred. 
• Prior experience designing for commercial products is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
• Strong ability to work within a team environment.
