 About the Role  

Otto Aerospace is seeking a dynamic engineer to join our Aircraft Integration Team.  The ideal candidate will have a background in aerospace rapid prototyping, including managing small, dynamic teams, hands-on design, build, and assembly of mockups, prototypes, and test articles, utilizing 3D-printed, wooden, metallic, fiberglass, and carbon-fiber construction.  You will be joining a team developing the world’s most efficient aircraft. Otto Aerospace is seeking first-principles engineers who work well in a team atmosphere and know how to get things done. 

What You’ll Do 

• Be a functioning team member within Otto’s Aircraft Integration Team. 
• Manage a small team of rapid prototyping engineers 
• Develop workflow processes for mockups and test articles of various levels of complexity from various requestors 
• Lead the design, fabrication, and assembly of low-to-high fidelity aerospace prototypes, mockups, and test rigs both in and out of house 
• Select materials, components, and fabrication methods suitable for performance, cost, and build speed requirements 
• Translate concepts, ideas, and sketches into function hardware and test rigs. 
• Support design and fabrication of supplier on-site builds 
• Manage, mentor, and guide teammates through rapid prototyping builds 
• Hands on fabrication, build, and assembly 
• Document build processes, test results, and design iterations to support engineering and certification efforts. 
• Manage costs, schedules, and resources required for each build. 
• Ordering, purchasing, and retrieval of components and supplies. 
• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure prototypes meet performance and integration requirements 
• Perform and participate in trade studies to influence key aircraft decisions. 
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment 

Who You Are 

Education 

• B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent. 

Experience 

• Minimum 8 years rapid prototype experience, preferably in aerospace 
• Experience managing a small diverse team preferred. 
• Skills in CATIA V5/V6/3DX (or similar); 3DX is preferred. 
• Hands-on experience with shop tools and equipment including drills, saws, lathes, mills, welders, routers, etc. 
• Strong understanding of materials (plastics, woods, metals, composites), their uses, and manufacturing techniques. 
• Overall knowledge of mechanical systems, propulsion, structures, avionics, and key interfaces to aircraft systems common on Part 23 / Part 25 aircraft. 
• Strong knowledge of industry standards with hands-on experience. 
• Basic understanding of Product Lifecycle Management processes. 
• Familiarity with RTCA DO-160G, DO-254, and SAE ARP4754A. 
• Familiarity with FAR Part 23 and Part 25 requirements. 

Desired Experience 

• Electromechanical integration and test. 
• Understanding basic LV/HV wiring. 
• Logistics and shipping experience or understanding of logistics and shipping

 Responsibilities 

• Perform stress analysis of metallic and composite structural components, assemblies and systems to provide inputs to the design and ensure structural integrity.
• Author analysis documentation.
• Create and/or utilize Finite Element Models (FEM).
• Perform Durability and Damage Tolerance (DADT) assessments.
• Review engineering definition for release in the product lifecycle system (PLM).
• Author structural test plans and reports.
• Compare structural test results to analytical models (test vs Finite Element Model).
• Support development of stress analysis tools and methodologies
• Support multi-disciplinary configuration development and trade studies
• Interface with materials & processes, structural test laboratories, flight test, manufacturing, and customers/regulation authorities 

Qualifications/Requirements 

• B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent
• 0-2 years of relevant industry experience (or 1+ with M.S.)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of airframe static and fatigue stress analysis for both composite and metallic structures
• Knowledge of industry standard classical analysis methods
• Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis methods (FEMAP experience is a plus)

The Associate Manufacturing Engineer will also help the team prepare for low-rate initial production (LRIP) and full rate production (FRP) at the Final Assembly Integration and Test (FAIT) Facility, in Jacksonville, Florida.  

  The Associate Manufacturing Engineer role will contribute to the successful completion of major projects that support strategic priorities and technical objectives for the Phantom 3500 aft fuselage assembly. Working under general direction, the individual possesses basic knowledge in manufacturing engineering and assembly technical areas and can learn to develop imaginative manufacturing processes or tooling designs. The individual will support Manufacturing Engineering technical POCs on projects, programs and/or cross functional teams.  

 What You'll Do 

• Complete 3DX training and learn how to create an MBOM, BOP, and create work instructions 
• Complete composite bonder training and fabricate composite parts to support manufacturing trials 
• Assist in developing and executing plans for manufacturing trials 
• Learn and execute design for manufacturability (DFM), producibility analysis, and manufacturing trade studies to determine cost effective solutions to complex manufacturing technical objectives using a variety of data and analysis techniques  
• Identify, report and resolve potential safety and quality hazards/risks

Otto Aerospace is seeking engineers, who are comfortable working from first principles, work great in a team atmosphere and get things done. 

The successful candidate will join the Materials and Processes department. This department advises on material selection and associated best practices, properties and allowables. They also author governing documents, test documents, and specifications related to materials and processes to be consumed in the design, fabrication, assembly, inspection and repair of Otto aircraft.  Additionally, the department interfaces with manufacturing suppliers, ensuring all efforts related to materials and processes conform to Otto prescribed requirements. 

What You'll Do 

• Provide guidance on matters relating to metallic materials and process to the Design and Manufacturing teams during product development and operation including fasteners and hardware. 
• Provide guidance to the Design team regarding metallic material corrosion protection, heat treatment, coatings and finishes. 
• Author materials and process specifications, test plans and reports. 
• Support multi-disciplinary configuration development and trade studies. 
• Review engineering definition for release in the product lifecycle system (PLM). 

Who You Are 

Education 

• B.S. in Material Science, Manufacturing, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent 

Experience 

• 3-5+ years of aircraft metallic M&P experience (or 2+ with M.S.) 
• Knowledge of industry standard materials and processes for metallic (required) and non-metallic (a plus) materials. 
• Knowledge of metallic material fabrication techniques, such as machining, welding and sheetmetal forming

 Role Overview 

Otto Aviation is seeking an Engineer, Airframe Stress Analysis to be a member of our team.  The ideal candidate has relevant stress analysis experience and a willingness to learn.  You will join a team developing the world’s most efficient aircraft.  Otto Aviation is seeking engineers, who are comfortable working from first principles, work great in a team atmosphere and get things done. 

 Responsibilities 

• Perform stress analysis of metallic and composite structural components, assemblies and systems to provide inputs to the design and ensure structural integrity.
• Author analysis documentation.
• Create and/or utilize Finite Element Models (FEM).
• Perform Durability and Damage Tolerance (DADT) assessments.
• Review engineering definition for release in the product lifecycle system (PLM).
• Author structural test plans and reports.
• Compare structural test results to analytical models (test vs Finite Element Model).
• Support development of stress analysis tools and methodologies
• Support multi-disciplinary configuration development and trade studies
• Interface with materials & processes, structural test laboratories, flight test, manufacturing, and customers/regulation authorities 

Qualifications/Requirements 

• B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent
• 3+ years of relevant industry experience (or 1+ with M.S.)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of airframe static and fatigue stress analysis for both composite and metallic structures
• Knowledge of industry standard classical analysis methods
• Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis methods (FEMAP experience is a plus)
• Proficiency with CATIA V5/V6/3DX and ENOVIA V5/V6/3DX is a plus

 Where You'll Be

**This is an onsite position.  You will be hybrid/onsite at our temporary headquarters in Ft Worth TX, then relocate to our new location in Jacksonville, FL upon facility readiness.

The ideal candidate will have a background in aerospace rapid prototyping including hands-on design, build, and assembly of mockups and prototypes utilizing 3D printed, wooden, metallic, fiberglass, and carbon fiber construction. You will be joining a team developing the world’s most efficient aircraft. Otto Aerospace is seeking first principles engineers that work great in a team atmosphere and know how to get things done. 

What You'll Do  

• Be a functioning team member within Otto’s Aircraft Integration Team.
• Lead the design, fabrication, and assembly of low-to-high fidelity aerospace prototypes, mockups, and test rigs both in and out of house 
• Select materials, components, and fabrication methods suitable for performance, cost, and build speed requirements
• Translate concepts, ideas, and sketches into function hardware and test rigs.
• Support design and fabrication of supplier on-site builds
• Mentor and guide teammates through rapid prototyping builds
• Hands-on fabrication, build, and assembly
• Maintains a clean and safe working environment 
• Document build processes, test results, and design iterations to support engineering and certification efforts.
• Develop basic cost estimates for mockup designs
• Ordering, purchasing, and retrieval of components and supplies. 
• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure prototypes meet performance and integration requirements
• Perform and participate in trade studies to influence key aircraft decisions. 

Who You Are 

Education  

   B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent. 

 Experience  

• 3-5 years of rapid prototype experience, preferably in aerospace
• Skills in CATIA V5/V6/3DX (or similar); 3DX is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with shop tools and equipment including drills, saws, lathes, mills, welders, routers, etc.
• Strong understanding of materials (plastics, woods, metals, composites), their uses, and manufacturing techniques.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Overall knowledge of mechanical systems, propulsion, structures, avionics, and key interfaces to aircraft systems common on Part 23 / Part 25aircraft.
• Strong knowledge of industry standards with hands-on experience.
• Basic understanding of Product Lifecycle Management processes.
• Familiarity with RTCA DO-160G, DO-254, and SAE ARP4754A.
• Familiarity with FAR Part 23 and Part 25 requirements.

 Desired Additional Skills and Experience 

• Electromechanical integration and test.
• Understanding of basic LV/HV wiring. 
• Logistics and shipping experience or understanding
