What You’ll Do
Optiver is looking for experienced C++ engineers who are interested in working on our industry-leading, globally distributed, low-latency equities market making platform. This role is tightly integrated with trading and quant research teams, offering new hires a fast path to understanding the business and having an immediate impact. You will be responsible for working with equities traders to understand exactly how we want to trade on equities exchanges, partnering to refine trading algorithms to meet strict software performance demands, then owning your software through implementation and deployment into worldwide markets. From Sydney, you’ll work with live trading systems trading Asian markets with unique market microstructures. You’ll also contribute to a global equities trading platform expanding in Europe and the USA - without needing to work US/Europe market hours.
Our success trading equities worldwide depends on a scalable, performant, and well-engineered software stack, so our engineers are skilled in architecting systems that operate across globally distributed environments, while still delivering real-time performance.
You will:
Work day-to-day with traders and quant researchers to understand how we want to price, quote and execute in equities markets and apply your skills to designing software systems and high-performance trading logic to bring those ideas to life in live equities markets.
Collaborate with other software engineers and contribute to the architecture of our globally distributed equities trading platform with hard real-time performance constraints.
Experience the excitement of our fast-paced development cycle – owning a tight feedback loop, testing and shipping your code to production sometimes on the same day.
Flex your low-level engineering fundamentals by implementing performance-sensitive low-latency trading logic and strategies.
Who You Are
We’re looking for multiple engineers across a range of seniority and will tailor scope and ownership accordingly. We’re looking for candidates:
With at least 2 years' experience as a software engineer working with distributed systems, low-latency systems, backend systems or client/server architectures.
Who are skilled at object-oriented programming in C++, or Java/C# with a strong desire to work in C++.
Who have an excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals like operating systems, data structures and algorithms.
Who are familiar with a language like Python for developing tooling.
Who embrace AI tools for parts of their role, without sacrificing code quality or runtime performance.
Who are excited by technically challenging problems.
If any of these describe you, we’re even more excited to talk to you:
5 or more years of experience as a software engineer on distributed or low-latency systems.
Highly skilled in C++ development.
Proficient with database technologies like Postgres for parameterisation, analytics, and research workflows.
Experienced working in an electronic trading firm, or knowledge of equities trading fundamentals.
Experienced working in a backtest-driven software development cycle.

Established in 1986, today we are a leading liquidity provider, with close to 2,000 employees in offices around the world, united in our commitment to improve the market through competitive pricing, execution and risk management. By providing liquidity on multiple exchanges across the world in various financial instruments we participate in the safeguarding of healthy and efficient markets. What you’ll do

The team performs a range of audits and assessments and, when required, special projects across Optiver offices, including Amsterdam, Chicago, Shanghai, London, New York, Mumbai, Austin, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taipei.

What You’ll Do

Trade execution in Asia isn’t simple - you’ll study exchange microstructure in depth and use your creativity to invent new ways to optimise order placement and packet delivery. Our development is often fast paced, fulfilling, and rewarding, with the ability to work on features and see them running in live markets within days.
You will:
Partner with trading and research teams to understand our trade execution performance and look for inventive ways to boost trade execution rates, ensuring Optiver retains its number one status in the market.

Directly interface with the live production environment to get fast feedback from live trading and feel the impact of your work.
Ensure quality is maintained throughout our systems by contributing to code reviews and the design of last-line-of-defence systems.
Provide advice and guidance to junior developers.

Who have an excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals like operating systems, data structures and algorithms.
Who are excited by technically challenging problems.
Who embrace AI tools for parts of their role, without sacrificing code quality or runtime performance.
If any of these describe you, we’re even more excited to talk to you:

The chance to work alongside diverse and intelligent peers in a rewarding environment.
Training, mentorship and personal development opportunities.
Daily breakfast, lunch and an in-house barista.
Gym membership plus weekly in-house chair massages.
Regular social events, including a company trip every two years.

At Optiver we are hiring the Head of Infrastructure (APAC) — a senior engineering leader and the primary regional partner to the APAC CTO and Global Head of Infrastructure. You will lead APAC infrastructure engineering capability: setting regional priorities, validating regional architectures, and ensuring the region delivers resilient, reliable, low-latency infrastructure.
This role requires both engineering pedigree and strong operational judgement. You will set regional priorities and outcomes, and you will guide, shape and assure delivery from globally managed and local teams so those outcomes are met. You will influence and validate technical designs to ensure they are fit for APAC constraints, hold teams and partners accountable for execution, and orchestrate escalations where needed. Above all, you will translate firm and APAC priorities into delivered outcomes while maintaining stakeholder confidence — making pragmatic trade-offs between latency, resilience, risk, cost and time-to-market.
In HFT, infrastructure is a competitive edge — small gains in latency, reliability or time to market directly affect success. Done well, the Head of Infrastructure (APAC) ensures regional engineering delivers the resilient platforms that improve execution, reduce risk and enable rapid delivery: you’ll set regional priorities, convene and hold teams and suppliers to account, and assure technical delivery (architectures, handoffs, major projects).
Act as the APAC Infrastructure leader: own APAC outcomes, escalations, decisions and cross-team delivery while partnering with the APAC CTO and Global Head of Infrastructure.
Ensure coherent regional delivery from globally managed teams: define and run the operating cadence, set and enforce SLAs/OKRs, remove cross-team blockers, and coordinate delivery across time zones and geographies.
Translate strategy into delivery: convert firm and APAC business priorities into clear infrastructure outcomes, term plans and measurable delivery commitments.
Be the escalation owner: own APAC-level incident and change escalation, shape postmortems and remediation, and ensure robust assurance over change & configuration controls and site resilience.
Manage the APAC operating rhythm & org leadership: set cadence, delegate effectively, hold leaders accountable, and continuously improve the region’s practices so work becomes repeatable and handover to BAU is clear.
Partner with other regional leads: work with EU, US and other regional leads to converge regional processes into global ones, share best practices, highlight regional constraints, and ensure global standards and tooling are fit-for-purpose in APAC.
Mentor and develop senior technical talent: coach senior engineers and engineering managers on leadership, operations and communication; promote psychological safety and an engineering culture of ownership and long-term thinking.
Build and maintain durable stakeholder relationships: engage business, engineering and global counterparts; provide executive-ready communication of status, risk, decisions and asks.
Take responsibility for regional talent strategy: identify leadership and performance gaps and define regional headcount and senior-hire priorities in partnership with global leads and the HRBP. Global teams will continue to own their pipelines and bench development; you will provide regional assurance, influence hiring prioritisation, and step in to recruit or accelerate capability where regional delivery requires it.
The APAC Infrastructure function operates across Sydney, Shanghai, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Japan, and is responsible for the infrastructure foundations we build and deploy our trading and non-trading environments on. You will work with globally managed engineering teams, APAC infrastructure leaders, and partner extensively with global infrastructure teams.
Strong engineering pedigree: hands-on technical experience and proven architecture/engineering leadership - preferably in infrastructure engineering and/or latency-sensitive systems.
Experience leading engineering functions at Head/Director level, defining technical roadmaps, establishing standards and growing engineering teams.
Operational judgement: able to balance engineering quality with operational reliability and business timelines.
Executive-level stakeholder skills and the ability to represent the region in global technical discussions.
Experience operating in a matrix organisation and coordinating delivery from globally managed and highly distributed teams across multiple countries and timezones.
A builder mindset: a record of driving standardisation, automation and turning bespoke solutions into durable engineering practices.
Willingness to travel: this role requires approximately 4 weeks of travel per year across the US, Europe, and APAC.
