Job Description

Imagine shaping the future of energy at a senior level. As part of Olsson’s Transmission and Distribution team, you’ll lead the design and delivery of high-voltage infrastructure that powers communities, supports renewable integration, and strengthens grid reliability.

This Senior Engineer role is focused on PLS‑CADD‑based transmission and distribution line design. Candidates may come from a variety of engineering backgrounds commonly associated with power delivery, with expertise centered on line modeling, structure analysis, and constructible design. You’ll guide projects from concept through construction, mentor engineers and designers, and work directly with clients to deliver high‑quality, defensible solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Lead the engineering and design of transmission and distribution line projects, with a strong emphasis on PLS‑CADD modeling and analysis.
Develop and review transmission line layouts, structure loading, sag‑tension calculations, and clearance analyses.
Serve as a technical resource and mentor for engineers and designers, providing guidance, QA/QC, and design oversight.
Coordinate with internal disciplines (substation, civil, environmental, right‑of‑way) to deliver integrated solutions.
Interface directly with clients, utilities, and project stakeholders to define scope, schedule, and technical approach.
Review and stamp engineering deliverables as appropriate.
Participate in field visits, constructability reviews, and support during construction as needed.
Contribute to process improvement, standards development, and best practices within the Transmission & Distribution group.

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, civil engineering, or related field.
8+ years of progressive experience in transmission and/or distribution line engineering.
Advanced proficiency in PLS CADD; experience with PLS POLE and PLS TOWER is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience leading projects and performing detailed engineering calculations.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience working with utility clients and applicable industry standards.

The typical annual salary range for this role is as listed below. Compensation may vary based on geographic location, experience, and qualifications. Employees in this role may be eligible for our performance‑based bonus and merit increases.

National Pay Range

$106,600—$218,000 USD

Grow your career with Olsson’s Power Delivery team. We’re looking for an Associate Electrical Engineer with 3–6 years of T&D experience, a solid electrical engineering foundation, and the drive to excel in a fast paced, highly autonomous environment.

What You’ll Do:

Design and analyze transmission and distribution line structures
Use PLS-CADD, SPIDAcalc, PoleForeman, or similar tools to model and evaluate loading
Support construction documents—plan & profile drawings, loading trees, equipment specs, and reports
Perform calculations, modeling, and field data reviews
Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to ensure accuracy and quality
Assist with site visits, field assessments, and engineering evaluations
Participate in project meetings and client coordination
Document work clearly and contribute to project deliverables

Job Description

Join Olsson's Transmission and Distribution team and help shape the future of energy systems. As an Associate Design Technician, you’ll contribute to the design of high-powered substations using MicroStation, Revit, and AutoCAD software, supporting the infrastructure that powers our communities. Working alongside experienced engineers and technicians, you’ll develop technical expertise while producing accurate and detailed designs that meet future energy demands.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented and motivated designer looking to expand their skills in substation and transmission projects while collaborating with a team that values innovation, quality, and client success.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in computer-aided design (CAD) operations, including plan production and entry-level design tasks under moderate supervision.
Develop detailed drawings for utility transmission and substation projects using MicroStation, Revit, or AutoCAD.
Support the creation and modification of plan sheets, layouts, and design models.
Assist in updating project specifications, running design calculations, and determining material needs.
Collaborate with engineers and senior designers to ensure project accuracy and efficiency.
Perform engineering support tasks, including gathering data, maintaining computer files, and documenting design changes.
Participate in client meetings and site visits to better understand project requirements and design feasibility.
