Position Description
In this role, you will own the design, development, integration, and validation of electrical systems supporting a nuclear fuel recycling facility. These systems include facility power distribution, electrical infrastructure, equipment power systems, and interfaces with process and control systems.
This is a first-of-a-kind (FOAK) facility, and this role requires ownership across the full lifecycle from early concept development through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and operations.
This role includes close collaboration with cross-functional teams focused on facility design, process engineering, controls engineering, equipment design, and licensing.
Specific responsibilities may include:
Lead the design and implementation of facility electrical systems from concept through commissioning
Design and specify high-, medium-, and low-voltage power distribution systems
Define system architecture, including redundancy, backup power, and safety strategies
Perform and review power system studies (load flow, short-circuit, coordination)
Generate and review electrical documentation (single-line diagrams, load lists, specifications, cable schedules)
Lead integration with control systems (PLC/DCS/HMI)
Develop grounding, bonding, and lightning protection strategies
Support procurement, installation, and commissioning activities
Collaborate on facility layout, constructability, and maintainability
Generate technical documentation supporting regulatory and licensing efforts
Serve as the electrical technical lead across lifecycle stages
Minimum Qualifications:
Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
10+ years of experience designing and deploying industrial or facility-scale electrical systems
Demonstrated ownership of electrical system design through multiple project phases (concept through commissioning)
Bonus Qualifications:
Experience in nuclear, fuel cycle, or similarly regulated industrial environments
Deep experience in power systems design (switchgear, transformers, protection systems)
Expertise in power system analysis (load flow, short circuit, coordination studies)
Experience integrating electrical and controls systems (PLC/DCS/HMI)
Commissioning and startup experience in complex facilities

The person in this role is responsible for the design, prototyping, and iterative refinement of production-scale, remotely operated electrochemical molten salt process equipment used in nuclear fuel recycling. This work directly supports Oklo’s mission to close the fuel cycle and enable advanced fission technology deployment.
The systems developed will operate in high-temperature (>500 °C) and high-radiation environments, demanding robust, maintainable designs suitable for automation, remote operation, and long service lifetimes. Day-to-day activities will include mechanical design, testing, and validation of process and mechanical systems that perform reliably in these extreme conditions.
This role will include participation in cross-functional teams focused on facility design, nuclear and electrochemical engineering, instrumentation and controls, automation and robotics, process modeling, quality assurance, and licensing.
Develop and own the mechanical design of process and system components within Oklo’s nuclear fuel recycling facilities.
Design and validate high-temperature (>500 °C) and corrosion-resistant electrochemical process equipment, suitable for operation in high-radiation environments.
Incorporate design-for-automation principles to enable remote handling, inspection, and maintenance of systems and components.
Collaborate cross-functionally with other engineering teams to define design and functional requirements, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards
Lead and participate in formal design reviews, providing and integrating multidisciplinary technical feedback.
Generate and maintain 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and bills of materials in controlled PDM/PLM environments.
Prepare clear and traceable engineering documentation, including design rationales, functional requirements, and regulatory submissions.
Collaborate directly with fabrication partners and vendors to refine designs for manufacturability, cost effectiveness, and scalability.
Support equipment prototyping, testing, and commissioning at Oklo’s recycling development and deployment sites.

The Regulatory Engineer is responsible for both navigating the regulatory framework for licensing recycling and fuel fabrication facilities, as well as for participating in the engineering design of those same technologies. From a regulatory and licensing perspective, the Licensing Engineer is expected to develop an in-depth knowledge of relevant Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Environmental Protection Agency requirements, with an appreciation for the Oklo philosophy to approaching complex regulatory challenges. Specific work areas will be determined by experience, background, and interest. Oklo is undertaking revolutionary work in the licensing and deployment of modern fuel recycling facilities; we are seeking success-motivated individuals who want to play a key role in bringing that mission to a reality!

Position Description
The Radioactive Waste Handling Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing compliant, safe, and effective shipping and storage solutions for nuclear materials ranging from byproduct to Class A through high-level waste (HLW) items. This role will play a critical part in ensuring regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and technical rigor in nuclear waste management.
In this position, you will
Collaborate with internal teams, regulators, and external partners to design, implement, and oversee waste storage programs for the Oklo Fuel Recycling Team.
Design, analyze, and implement waste storage systems and packaging that comply with NRC regulations and industry standards.
Manage contracts with licensed disposal facilities, transporters, and shippers to ensure safe and compliant waste disposition.
Specific responsibilities may include:
Performing engineering analyses of waste package performance (e.g., chemical, thermal, radiological, etc.) to support the development of the safety case for the Oklo Fuel Recycling Facility.
Collaborating cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and licensing teams to integrate waste storage requirements into facility and program designs.
Facilitating design of storage facilities and processes to ensure regulatory compliance with 10 CFR Part 72.
Aiding the development of compliant waste storage programs for a wide range of waste classifications (i.e., Class A, B, C, GTCC, and HLW).
Coordinating with licensed shippers and disposal facilities to execute safe and efficient waste transport and storage.
Developing documentation and procedures to support licensing, inspections, audits, and regulatory reviews.
Supporting long-term waste strategy development, including disposal pathways, interim storage solutions, and innovations in packaging and handling.
