The role

Nebius operates large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure.  As a Senior/Staff Backend Software Engineer, you’ll design, build, and operate backend services that are reliable, scalable, and performant.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Design and implement distributed backend systems
• Own services end-to-end: architecture, development, testing, deployment, and production support
• Work closely with infrastructure, SRE, and GTM teams to deliver robust solutions
• Improve system performance, reliability, and observability
• Participate in technical design discussions and mentor other engineers

What we expect you to have:

• 5+ years of experience building backend systems in production
• Strong proficiency in Python (Go is a strong plus)
• Experience with distributed systems and high-throughput services
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design
• Hands-on experience with databases (SQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, NoSQL)
• Experience working in Linux environments
• Ability to debug complex production issues
• A track record of owning systems in production and making sound technical decisions under real-world constraints

The role

Nebius operates large-scale, mission-critical bare-metal infrastructure. As a Software Engineer (Python), you will design and build systems that provision, configure, test, and manage physical hardware at scale. Your work will sit close to the metal—interfacing directly with servers, networks, and management controllers—while supporting highly automated, reliable infrastructure operations.

You will collaborate closely with hardware, networking, and data center operations teams to ensure our platforms are robust, scalable, and production ready.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Design and develop backend services and automation in Python
• Build and maintain systems for hardware provisioning, testing, and lifecycle management
• Develop software that runs directly on bare-metal environments
• Integrate with Linux systems, using Bash and low-level tooling where needed
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure-focused software
• Work with networking services including IPv4/IPv6, DHCP, DNS, network boot, and server boot workflows
• Interface with BMC controllers and management protocols (IPMI-style protocols, HTTP-based standards)
• Enable reliable hardware interaction and automation across large fleets
• Support ARM64 / ARM64EC architectures
• Design and integrate NoSQL data stores for system state and orchestration data
• Write clear documentation and contribute to operational excellence

What we expect you to have:

• Strong professional experience as a software engineer, with a focus on Python
• Solid experience with Linux systems and shell scripting
• Hands-on experience working with bare-metal servers or low-level infrastructure Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (IPv4/IPv6, DHCP, DNS, PXE / network boot)
• Experience interacting with hardware management interfaces (BMC, IPMI-like protocols, HTTP APIs)

The role

Nebius is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer in Hardware Infrastructure team. You’re welcome to work in our office in Amsterdam.

Hardware Infrastructure team designs, develops and supports systems involved in the data-centers lifecycle:

• Serving functional and load testing system.
• Monitoring of engineering equipment located in our data centers (power supply, air and water cooling, etc.)
• Monitoring of IT equipment: racks, servers, JBODs, JBOGs, power shelves, network devices, etc.
• Asset tracking.
• Hardware repairs tasks tracking.
• Server production.

In this position, your responsibility will be to:

• Ensure fault-tolerance, scale and uninterrupted operations for our services.
• Use cutting-edge technology to solve a variety of infrastructure problems.
• Implement and improve CI/CD processes.

We expect you to have: 

• Proficiency in Linux systems, with expertise in Python and Bash scripting for automation.

• Design and build services and agents that provide deep visibility into large-scale server fleets and data center engineering systems
• Evolve metrics, aggregation, and alerting pipelines, with a focus on signal quality and reliability
• Design and operate maintenance and remediation systems that enable safe, predictable fleet-wide changes and keep infrastructure healthy
• Investigate production incidents hands-on, including on-host Linux debugging, and drive root-cause fixes

• Strong production experience with Python and Go, or the ability to ramp up quickly
• Solid Linux fundamentals and comfort debugging live systems

• Ubuntu experience, including internal tooling and packaging workflows (e.g., building Debian packages)
