Job Summary: 

We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer, based in the United States, to enhance the reliability, performance, and scalability of our production AI systems. We value clear thinking, incremental improvement, and engineers with real production incident experience. This role focuses on understanding, refining, and strengthening existing distributed services across application, database, and container orchestration layers. You will collaborate with ML researchers to make our systems more robust, maintainable, flexible, and scalable. This is a remote position but requires the ability to travel to the MixMode headquarters in Santa Barbara for in person meetings a few times a year.

What you’ll be doing (responsibilities):

• Own the reliability, performance, and operational health of production AI services
• Refactor and harden existing systems to improve resilience, clarity, and maintainability
• Diagnose and resolve issues across distributed services, data pipelines, and storage layers
• Design and implement monitoring, alerting, and debugging tools for high-availability systems
• Partner with researchers and engineers to productionize predictive systems at scale
• Establish best practices for testing, deployment, capacity planning, and incident response
• Contribute to incident response and postmortems, driving continuous improvement

What you’ll need to bring (qualifications):

• Ability to travel to our office in Santa Barbara, CA, a few times per year
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Python and at least one JVM language (Java, Scala, Kotlin)
• Proven experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems in production
• Strong understanding of service architecture, concurrency, resource management, and distributed failure modes
• Experience operating Kubernetes deployments 
• Strong experience with relational databases, including query performance analysis, indexing, and connection management
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve performance, scalability, and reliability issues across system layers
• Experience implementing automated testing and production observability (logging, metrics, tracing)
• Experience collaborating with ML or data science teams (deep ML expertise is not required)
• Ability to improve system architecture and engineering practices through design, code review, and mentorship

Our interview process focuses on real-world production experience and practical systems thinking. We assess how you reason about distributed systems, refactor existing code, and operate under real constraints—not abstract puzzles. We support the use of AI tools in our development, but we want to understand your capabilities first. No AI tools will be allowed for remote interviews early in the process.

The process includes:

• Conversations about systems you’ve personally owned, improved, and operated in production
• A live refactoring and testing exercise in your choice of Java, Kotlin, or Scala, centered on improving existing code without changing behavior
• A distributed systems discussion covering performance, state management, failure modes, and debugging under load
• An ML production discussion focused on stabilizing and operating model-driven systems in real environments
• The final stage of our interview process includes an in-person conversation at our Santa Barbara office, focused on senior-level ownership, judgment, and technical leadership

MixMode is looking for a Sr. Machine Learning Engineer to aid in building large-scale, production-grade AI systems for cybersecurity. As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will design, build, and operate distributed systems that apply machine learning to petabyte-scale streaming data. This role combines machine learning with systems engineering. You will be responsible for ensuring that ML systems are reliable, scalable, and performant in production, while enabling fast, reproducible evaluation of model performance. You will work closely with researchers and engineers to bring models into production and continuously improve their behavior at scale.

What you’ll be doing (responsibilities):

• Design and operate production ML systems for large-scale, streaming data
• Own system reliability, performance, and observability in production environments
• Improve the speed and reproducibility of model evaluation and iteration
• Collaborate with researchers to productionize models and integrate them into distributed systems
• Contribute to the evolution of existing ML systems and infrastructure to improve scalability, maintainability, and performance

What you’ll need to bring (qualifications):

• Ability to travel to our office in Santa Barbara, CA, a few times per year
• 5+ years of experience with Python in production environments
• 5+ years of experience applying machine learning using libraries such as PyTorch, scikit-learn, pandas, etc.
• Experience building and operating distributed systems in production (e.g., Kubernetes, microservices, streaming systems)
• Experience improving systems for ML experimentation and evaluation
• Experience with big data or streaming technologies (e.g., Spark, Flink, or similar)
• Strong mathematical foundation (e.g., degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or related field)

Other things we’d love to see (nice to have):

• Experience with JVM languages (Java, Scala, or Kotlin)
• Experience with Javascript/Typescript

Job Summary: 

MixMode is seeking a Customer Success Support Engineer to join our team either remotely or in our Santa Barbara office. This person is responsible for managing the technical health of our customers and ensuring their long-term success with our cyber defense platform. You will act as a primary technical resource, bridging the gap between high-level support and proactive customer enablement.

What you’ll be doing (responsibilities):

• Ticket Management: Overseeing and resolving technical support requests and cybersecurity issues efficiently.
• Customer Training: Conducting training sessions for new customer team members and providing deep dives into new platform features.
• Feature Deployment: Handling the setup and configuration of new features and specialized functionality for existing clients.
• Technical Consulting: Helping customers write scheduled tasks and develop custom queries to maximize platform utility.
• Relationship Building: Building strong, lasting relationships with key customer stakeholders to drive platform adoption and usage.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborating with security operations, engineering, and product teams to communicate customer needs and feedback.

What you’ll need to bring (qualifications):

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, or a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience: 2-4 years in a customer-facing Customer Success or Technical Support role.
• Core Technical Skills:
  • SIEM & NTA: Experience supporting and troubleshooting SIEM and Network Traffic Analysis platforms in customer environments.
  • Networking: Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and Syslog-based log ingestion.
  • Linux: Hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting RHEL, Rocky Linux, and Ubuntu systems.
  • Kubernetes: Familiarity with Kubernetes and containerized deployments preferred.

• Soft Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to train customers and present complex information in an engaging, accessible manner.
