About Role:

The Senior Manager, Operations Quality Engineering is a leadership position responsible for the strategic direction, daily operations, and long-term success of the company’s Quality and Food Safety department. This role oversees the Quality Engineer II (QE II), Quality Assurance Supervisors, and Quality Technicians to ensure total compliance with Safe Quality Food (SQF) standards, National Organic Program (NOP) requirements, and Fulfilled By Misfits (FBM) initiatives. The Manager serves as the primary SQF Practitioner and HACCP Coordinator, maintaining the integrity of the facilities Food Safety and Quality Plans.

Responsibilities: 

1. Leadership & Strategic Management

• Team Development: Manage, coach, and mentor Quality Engineers (QE II) and Quality Supervisors, focusing on high-level problem-solving and process improvement rather than tactical tasks.
• Succession Planning: Guide supervisors and engineers through the manager promotion track, ensuring they achieve required SQF Certifications.
• OKR & KPI Management: Define and track departmental Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), such as achieving a 95% target score on SQF audits and maintaining 100% compliance for organic audits.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Operations, Merchandising, and Operational Excellence teams to champion a collaborative food safety culture.
• Defect Reduction: Investigate internal errors (picking mistakes, damaged goods) and external customer complaints. Perform root cause analysis to prevent these issues at the source.

2. Food Safety & Compliance (SQF/HACCP)

• SQF Practitioner: Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the SQF system (Editions 9/10).
• HACCP Leadership: Lead the multidisciplinary HACCP team, coordinate monthly meetings, and perform mandatory validation checklists for all Food Safety Plans.
• Audit Readiness: Serve as the primary point of contact for third-party, regulatory (FDA/USDA), and customer audits.
• CAPA & RCA Oversight: Trigger and manage Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for audit non-conformances, customer complaints, or product recalls.

3. Operational Quality Control

• Final Disposition Authority: Serve as one of the few authorized personnel permitted to provide systematic release for held products and equipment.
• Traceability Excellence: Oversee mock recall and mock trace exercises (one step forward, one step back) to ensure a target recovery rate of 100% (+/- 2%).
• Sanitation & GDP Monitoring: Monitor the effectiveness of daily hygiene and monthly Good Distribution Practices (GDP) audits, ensuring facility-specific SOPs (e.g., color-coded waste disposal) are followed.

Gold Standard Program: enhance and implement the Gold Standard, Box experience program, leveraging consumer insights and data driven controls to continuously improve customer experience.

4. Technical & Systems Management

• System Revamp: Partner with cross-functional teams to improve Jalapeño WMS functionality, including photo documentation for QC functions and enhanced transaction history tracking in line with FDA Traceability requirements.
• Data Analysis: Utilize advanced tools like Tableau, SQL, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) to analyze quality trends and roll up Voice of the Customer (VOC) reports.
• Enhanced Platforms: Identify and deploy new electronic Food Safety and Quality Management System.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing), Food Science, Supply Chain, or a related technical field.
• Experience: Greater than 5 years of experience in a Quality Assurance, Continuous Improvement, or Process Engineering role within a manufacturing, food production, or high-volume fulfillment environment.
• Technical Skills: * Strong proficiency in Data Analysis and Statistical Process Control.
• Experience with Project Management methodologies.
• Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles (Green Belt is a plus).
• Food Safety: Familiarity with FDA, USDA-AMS & FSIS, GFSI, FSMA regulations, HACCP Certified, and SQF Practitioner Certified.

About The Role:

The Food Safety and Quality Supervisor provides proactive leadership in developing, implementing, and monitoring company quality and food safety related requirements, policies, procedures, and training. The position serves as lead for quality assurance, quality controls and Sanitation program & training execution, internal auditing, GFSI/SQF, USDA Organic and AMS Standards. This position also leads the Preparation Team in each packing facility, and  includes the creation and maintenance of Food Safety Plans, compliance with Food Defense, FSVP, Sanitary Transport, and any other current and regulatory changes. The Supervisor facilitates the document control program for the Fulfillment Centers including the upkeep of all programs, policies, SSOPs and SOPs. Also responsible for tracking and presenting Food Safety KPIs, verifying activities associated with Preventive Controls, and handling escalated customer complaint investigations and root cause analysis. The supervisor will also establish a food safety and quality culture program.

Responsibilities:

• Develops and implements Quality and Food Safety policies and programs including internal quality standards, FSMA, GMP, Environmental Monitoring Program, Sanitation, Traceability, Non-conforming Material-Hold and Release Programs, etc. as outlined in the Global Food Safety Initiative-SQF Standards
• Own the customer complaint escalated investigation and root causing process and data roll up trending to prevent recurrence.
• Review, investigate and analyze customer and supplier performance feedback to determine root cause analyses and appropriate corrective actions.
• Create an efficient document control management process using available databases. 
• Collect, analyze, summarize data, and create, report, and monitor food safety KPIs to effectively improve product, processes and standards across the organization.
• Provide continuous feedback, coaching, evaluating, monitoring and providing regular feedback on employee’s performance review.
• Build awareness, training, and education programs to drive cultural and behavioral changes.
• Develops and implements internal auditing programs to drive continuous improvement of Quality and Food Safety Programs.
• Conduct annual reviews of Food Safety Plans, Training Material, Sanitation Processes and food defense protocols against SQF requirements.
• Ensure auditors are calibrated and have the competency to be effective in driving continuous improvement. Lead team of QA and QC Audit Supervisors as a calibration tool. 
• Serve as USDA and PACA grading standard expert to support a mission based approach to quality acceptance of produce commodities. Support hourly staff on incoming produce and grocery incoming material inspections.
• Submit claims reports in partnership with Merch and Operations Team.
• Responsible for the Preparation Team-ensuring all sorting and prepping duties are effectively completed.
• Serve as the food defense coordinator and ensure effective controls are implemented.
• Conducts preparedness exercises for responding to recall and withdrawal scenarios. During actual events, leads Recall teams to execute required activities as outlined in the program.
• Champion a collaborative culture around FSQR in partnership with Operations, Site/Merchandising, Product and the Operational Excellence-FBM Teams.
• Leads staff accountable for food safety plan Hazard Analysis and Process Preventive Controls, sanitation controls, and effective auditing. Trains, coaches and evaluates the performance of direct reports. 
• Lead all FSQR Verification and Validation activities.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications: 

• People leadership and the ability to influence cross-functionally are essential.
• Experience building auditing programs, crafting QMS systems, and utilizing technology such as Google Suite are helpful.
• BS degree in Microbiology / Food Science / Chemistry or related area.
• At least 5  years industry food safety experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment including HACCP team experience. HACCP Certified; SQF Practitioner/BRC/FSSC experience, and certified as Preventive Controls Qualified Individual.
• USDA, NOP, and FDA Regulatory experience
• USDA FSIS Meats, USDA Produce/AMS and CPG experience
• Minimum 5  years of people management experience
• Knowledge of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)

What you’ll be doing:

• Utilize a finger scanner and our Warehouse Management System (WMS) interface to accurately locate and select products from designated storage areas within the refrigerated warehouse.
• Safely and efficiently pack selected items into appropriate packaging, considering temperature-sensitive requirements for refrigerated products.
• Ensure that all picked items match customer orders and meet Misfits’ quality standards. Use the appropriate packaging materials to prevent damage or spoilage during transportation.
• Conduct regular quality checks on products to identify any damages, discrepancies, or expiration issues.
• Work closely with team members to achieve daily operational targets.
• Verify and maintain inventory levels within your bay, communicating effectively with other teams to ensure timely replenishment and minimize disruptions. 
• Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in a food-based, refrigerated environment.
• Help us maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized workspace. Complete all assigned safety training as required in a timely manner.
• Maintain functional knowledge in all areas of the production line, including box building and prepping. 

What you have:

• Authorized to work in the United States.
• Able to work in a refrigerated environment (36 degrees)
• Strong verbal communications skills
• Willingness to work overtime and/or possible weekends if the business needs you to
• Ability to thrive in a repetitive and fast-paced environment
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repetitively with or without reasonable accommodation
• Ability to stand, squat, kneel, and bend repetitively with or without reasonable accommodation

Nice for you to have:

• HS Diploma or equivalent
• Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)
• Experience working in a food based environment

How you’ll support our operations:

As a production associate in our warehouse, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and efficient fulfillment of customer orders. Working in a temperature-controlled environment, you will be responsible for selecting, picking, and packing products with precision and attention to quality. This position requires a detail-oriented and reliable individual who can thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative team setting
