Hybrid role: 2 days/week in office

As a Technical Program Manager at MediaAlpha you'll sit at the nexus of engineering, business, and our external customers. You'll lead a functional area and work across teams to determine ongoing program needs, manage related projects, and define and measure success of your area.

The ideal candidate is someone that is detailed oriented, intensely curious and will foster, drive, and socialize a shared vision around their ownership area. You're comfortable reviewing code with engineers and talking business strategy with executive leadership. Responsibilities

• Oversee an end-to-end program, including defining metrics to measure success, monitor issues, and surface opportunities in systems that handle hundreds of thousands of high-value transactions per day.
• Work with external partners, internal account managers, and engineers to define, build, test, and release API integrations, related functionality, and supporting features.
• Manage Backlogs and Kanban workflows, and coordinate wider efforts across cross-functional teams.
• Consult with external partners on best practices for data passing and API design.

Requirements

• 2+ years of Program Management or related project experience, especially in an Agile environment and with the complete SDLC.
• Exceptional analytical skills.
• Experience with SQL, JSON, and Web APIs.
• Experience working with engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to articulate and communicate clearly, concisely, and thoughtfully.
• A self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity and ability to problem-solve, while paying careful attention to detail.
• Knowledge of Atlassian Suite (JIRA, Confluence) a plus.

Role Overview

As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer at MediaAlpha, you will lead the design and development of LLM-powered applications for our internal teams and ad serving platform. You will be accountable for end-to-end systems: owning strategy, architecture, implementation, and operations. You will collaborate with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to deliver intelligent systems that solve real business problems.

The ideal candidate is a strong engineer with hands-on experience building LLM-powered applications in production, who works well across organizational boundaries and improves the conditions of any area they are in. We are an intentionally small organization, designed for agility, speed, and workability.

Responsibilities

• Own the full software development lifecycle of LLM-powered systems, from requirements through production deployment and operational health.
• Design and implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, tool-use patterns, and multi-step reasoning workflows.
• Integrate LLM-based services into MediaAlpha's products, internal tools, and data ecosystem.
• Drive architectural decisions balancing capability, cost, latency, and maintainability.
• Establish evaluation frameworks and metrics to measure application quality and business impact.
• Work directly with stakeholders to define product capabilities and develop new features and integrations.
• Be a champion of instilling excellence in coding, testing, and quality into the team and culture.
• Mentor engineers on LLM application development patterns and best practices.

Requirements

• 9+ years of experience in software development.
• Experience designing and owning systems end-to-end, including 3-tier architectures, data flows, APIs, deployments, and operational health.
• Strong programming skills in Python, including software engineering methodologies and best practices.
• Hands-on experience building LLM-powered features in production.
• Experience with RAG architectures, including vector databases, embedding models, and retrieval strategies.
• Practical prompt engineering skills with demonstrated ability to iterate and evaluate quality.
• Familiarity with core ML concepts (classification, evaluation metrics, embeddings) and the judgment to know when traditional ML approaches outperform LLM-based solutions.
• Experience with agent frameworks and tool-use patterns (MCP, function calling, etc.).
• Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS preferred: EC2, S3, Bedrock).
• A self-starter who works independently, is comfortable with ambiguity, and pays careful attention to detail.
• Experience collaborating with engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to articulate and communicate clearly, concisely, and thoughtfully.
• Organized and self-motivated.
• B.S. required, preferably in a technical discipline (e.g., computer science).

We are looking for a talented Senior Software Engineer to join our technology team. As a Senior Software Engineer at MediaAlpha, you will take part in all aspects of the software development lifecycle. You'll love it! You will get to work directly with stakeholders in defining our MediaAlpha Exchange Product.  As a leader in the organization, we’ll rely on you to coordinate across the organization to ensure our solutions meet business needs, collaborate on the overall architecture of our eco-system, drive the design of our systems to meet our architectural desires and collaboratively define and embody software development best practices in your work. 

Responsibilities

• Own the full software development lifecycle of implementing high-performance ad-serving software.
• Integrate our products with our partners.
• Be a leader in the engineering organization, jumping in to help out and resolve routine issues.
• Be part of a team that maintains and supports our live MediaAlpha Exchange product.
• Perl code development in a Linux environment, on Amazon EC2, leveraging also S3, CloudFront and Route 53.

Requirements

• 5+ years experience in software development.
• B.S. required, preferably in a technical discipline (e.g., computer science).
• Ability to write maintainable, scalable, efficient and reliable code.
• Strong engineering skills including software engineering methodologies and best practices.
• Be a champion of instilling excellence in coding and quality into the team and culture.
• Organized and self-motivated with an ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• A self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity and ability to problem solve while paying careful attention to detail.
• Experience working with engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to articulate and communicate clearly, concisely, and thoughtfully.
• SQL, Perl, shell scripts and/or Linux knowledge are a bonus.
