Man’s Portfolio Risk team is responsible for implementing and monitoring regulatory and contractual investment restrictions across the business. The team also advises PMs on trading decisions, negotiates investment guidelines with clients, works closely with development technology teams to ensure robust implementation of limits, and with the legal team to ensure consistency in documentation of investment restrictions.
Specific responsibilities • Analyze real time risk/compliance alerts to ensure consistency with investment mandates, and work with traders and portfolio managers to resolve exceptions • Manage pre-trade risk/compliance alerts, working with technology and front office to ensure there is a robust pre-trade risk framework • Review investment restrictions for new mandates prior to finalization • Implement mandate and regulatory limits in Man’s risk system, developing new reporting analytics where required • Investigate potential breaches of investment restrictions and maintain the central breach log • Work closely with Product Legal and structuring teams to specify prospectus or other document amendments as required • Work with Technology to specify system enhancements required to implement new monitoring and analysis associated with strategy requirements
Key competencies • Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in a subject with an analytical component • Preferably 3-5 years’ experience in performing a similar function for another asset manager • Ability to conceptualize and perform calculations that are part of a portfolio of investments and derivatives • Working knowledge of investment strategies applied in portfolio management including portfolios that apply derivatives and short positions as part of their strategy • Experience in reviewing investment guidelines, Offering Memorandums, and Investment Management Agreements • Experience in monitoring for portfolio investment requirements associated with UCITS, 3(c) 7 funds, and US mutual funds • Detail oriented and effective research and analytical skills • Ability to work in a trading desk environment • Moderate programming skills, preferably Excel/VBA, SQL, Python
The anticipated based salary range for this position is listed below. Compensation packages would also include benefits and a discretionary bonus. This is the base salary range that the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting based on the location and requirements of the position as well as the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant. The Team:
The Discretionary Risk Management team enhances the investment management process by delivering proactive, best-in-class risk oversight. We are seeking an accomplished leader who combines emotional intelligence, executive presence, and exceptional communication and quantitative skills to lead this high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide strategic leadership to the Discretionary Risk Management team, fostering a culture of excellence and high performance
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Portfolio Managers, Senior Management, Clients, and Regulators
Conduct real-time monitoring and assessment of risk exposures across all funds and books managed by Discretionary
Chair the Discretionary Risk Committee, setting the agenda and driving actionable outcomes
Champion continuous improvement in risk management methodologies, frameworks, and tools
Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the investment management styles employed across Discretionary and the broader Man Group
Design, deliver, and oversee strategic risk projects from inception to completion
Advance and embed the Man Group risk management framework across all business functions
Ensure timely resolution of risk issues, prioritising based on materiality, significance, and potential impact
Qualifications and Experience:
Postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or related field)
Minimum 10 years' experience in risk management across buy-side and/or sell-side institutions
Proven track record in discretionary risk management (essential)
Strong credit-focused background with deep knowledge of credit instruments and markets (essential)
Proficiency in AI/machine learning applications and Python programming
Demonstrated experience in people leadership, team development, and mentorship (essential)
Exceptional financial and analytical acumen
Comprehensive understanding of VaR modelling, stress testing, and broader risk management techniques

The Team:
AHL Investment Risk manages market, liquidity, and counterparty risk across the full range of AHL's systematic funds and strategies. The team combines quantitative risk research with day-to-day risk monitoring and works closely with Portfolio Management, Research, Trading, and Technology.
Portfolio Risk oversees regulatory and contractual investment restrictions across Man Group's funds. The team advises portfolio managers on trading decisions, negotiates investment guidelines with clients, and partners with Technology and Legal to ensure robust and consistent implementation of limits.
The successful candidate will work across both teams, contributing to shared priorities around risk infrastructure, automation, and AI-driven efficiency.
The Role:
We are now seeking an AI and process experienced leader, with a strong quantitative and technology background to drive automation and AI adoption across the AHL Risk and Portfolio Risk teams. The role is focused on building tools and automating workflows that make risk processes faster, more scalable, and more insightful — leveraging AI where it adds genuine value.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who combines solid risk and financial markets knowledge with hands-on coding and AI skills, and who wants to have a direct impact on how risk is managed across Man Group.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify and automate manual processes across the AHL Risk and Portfolio Risk teams, with a focus on leveraging AI to drive efficiency gains
Build and enhance risk models, analytical tools, and reporting infrastructure in Python
Contribute to the development of Man Group's risk framework, including internal risk models and code
Promote strong risk awareness and best practice across front-office and support functions
Key Skills & Experience:
A minimum of 2 years’ experience in financial markets or quantitative roles
