The Role

We’re hiring our first Director of Sales and Partnerships to drive revenue growth and establish the go-to-market engine that will carry Lucenia to Series A. You’ll report directly to the CEO and work alongside the founding team to shape our sales motion, refine messaging, and adapt quickly to what’s working.

You’ll be selling into enterprise and federal customers running secure or high-throughput search infrastructure on their terms — where performance, privacy, and cost control matter.

This is a rare opportunity to lead early revenue growth at a technically differentiated company in a massive and underserved market.

What You’ll Do

• Own execution across the full sales cycle—from relationship building, partnership, and outbound prospecting to closed-won
• Refine and iterate messaging based on customer feedback and market signals
• Help grow inbound by working with marketing to amplify traction and urgency
• Build and qualify pipeline in target verticals with urgency and focus
• Represent Lucenia in customer calls, demos, and technical evaluations
• Lay the groundwork for future GTM hires and playbooks

What Success Looks Like

• First 6 months:
  • Develop pipeline 3-5M w/ $1M Quota
  • Deliver 2–3 repeatable campaigns to drive strategic partnerships and amplify brand recognition
  • Convert initial prospects into multi-year customers

• First 12 months:
  • Exceed $1M in closed ARR
  • Help shape our GTM roadmap, comp plans, and hiring priorities

Who You Are

• 4–10 years in B2B infrastructure or AI-related sales
• Proven closer with a strong track record of quota attainment and pipeline growth and conversion
• Strong at building trust-based partnerships and navigating technical buyer conversations
• Comfortable navigating early-stage ambiguity and wearing multiple hats
• Flexible on travel for critical meetings, with typical cadence expected around 25%
• Bonus: Experience selling into regulated industries, data-heavy environments, or with search, observability, or cybersecurity tooling

The Control Plane Team is responsible for developing the orchestration and horizontal autoscaling of the Lucenia core search platform. This system layer is designed and developed to run in cloud-native, self-hosted, or a hybrid of both environments.  

In this role, you will be working on the team responsible for developing the Kubernetes based orchestration and auto scaling framework of the Lucene Search data plane and packaging it as a product that runs self hosted, cloud-native, or in hybrid modes. You will ensure compatibility and integration with other vendor offerings such as AWS, Azure, GCP, and/or RedHat OpenShift. You will also be responsible for building the services that power and provide Lucenia’s own SaaS platform. You will work across other functions, including engineering, quality control, performance benchmarking, support, content marketing, and executive leadership to build and market new features, capabilities, and offerings.

What you will do

• Work with a distributed team of experienced engineers focused on delivering self-hosted, cloud-native, and/or SaaS serverless offerings
• Develop container-based workflows with efficient autoscale in connected and disconnected environments.
• Design and develop a collection of processes that coordinate and manage the cluster’s state and scheduling decisions across the data plane. 
• Implement Kubernetes operators/controllers and helm charts with deployment responsibilities in production environments
• Collaborate across engineering, quality control, and leadership teams to execute on product deliverables.
• Invent ideas, collaborate with others, and own solutions from inception to deployment
• Mentor new team members

What you bring 

• Knowledge of the Go programming language 
• Deep understanding of distributed systems and cloud native technologies such as kubernetes, docker, and OCI container registries and systems level integration for serverless autoscaling  
• Experience working with cloud vendors such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Red Hat OpenShift and/or Oracle Cloud
• Familiar with vendor and open source object storage technologies and their role in stateful and stateless system orchestration
• Strong understanding of cost benefit trade offs during design and implementation phases.
• Familiar with SAML, LDAP, Active Directory, Single Sign On identity management technologies (e.g., Okta Auth0) and integration with cloud native deployments.
• Strong analytical, debugging, and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to communicate well with individuals and groups to accomplish a common set of goals

Bonus 

• Experience working with OpenSearch and/or Elastic Stack
• Strong scripting skills (e.g., groovy, gradle, python, javascript) 

What You Will Be Doing:

• You’ll work with a globally distributed team of experienced engineers focused on distributed indexing and query capabilities of Lucene.
• You'll be an expert in the engine area and everyone will turn to you when they have a question. You'll improve those areas based on your questions and your instincts.
• You'll be a full time Lucenia contributor, building data intensive new features, fixing exciting bugs and increasing the testing coverage, all while making the code easier to understand. Sometimes you'll need to invent a new algorithm or data structure, or find one and implement it. Sometimes you'll need to get close to the operating system and hardware.
• You'll work with community members from all over the world on issues and pull requests, sometimes triaging them and handing them off to other experts and sometimes handling them yourself.
• You'll write idiomatic modern Java and possibly Rust!

What You Bring Along:

• You have strong core Java skills and are conversant in the standard library of data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Excellent understanding of concurrent and parallel programming principles.
• Proven background in applied data processing (data structures, algorithms).
• Familiarity with low-level abstractions in OS.
• You work with a high level of autonomy, and are able to take on projects and guide them from beginning to end. This covers both technical design and working with other engineers to develop needed components.
• Solid software engineering foundations, with proven track record of designing and delivering high-quality solutions.
• Comfortable developing collaboratively. Giving and receiving feedback on code and approaches and APIs is hard! Bonus points if you've collaborated over the internet because that's harder. Double bonus points for asynchronous collaboration over the internet. That's even harder but we do it anyway because it's the best way we know to build software.
• You've used several data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra and have some idea how they work and why they work that way.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Collaborating on the internet is hard. We try to be respectful, empathetic, and trusting in all of our interactions. And we'd expect that from you too.

• You've built things with Luence before.
• Worked on index and search data structures technology.
• Have experience designing, leading and owning cross-functional initiatives.
• Worked with open source projects and are familiar with different styles of source control workflow and continuous integration.
• Past working experience with database, search engine, OS or cloud service development.
