Lead Product Designer (Contract to hire)

Role Summary

Lob is entering a pivotal new chapter, and we are seeking a visionary Lead Product Designer to scale our product. In this role, you will do more than design features; you will design the systems and UX philosophies that elevate our design org. This is a unique opportunity to take a successful, established company and reimagine its design language for the AI era. You will have the autonomy to challenge old assumptions, and the startup environment to design high-impact features yourself.

Key Responsibilities

• Leveraging best in class design practices and a deep understanding of JTBD, deliver recommendations that reduce friction across key customer workflows.
• Be the customer advocate. Drive roadmap prioritization conversations that stem from both qualitative and quantitative insights into how customers interact with our product.
• Refine Design Team processes with AI at the core - from initial discovery and wireframing to developer handoff - to improve output quality and lead time.
• Partner closely with Engineering to account for different use cases and edge cases. Raise healthy tension between UX, product scope, and technical feasibility.
• Provide high-quality, actionable feedback to junior and mid-level designers through structured critique sessions to support design quality and consistency. 
• Explore AI-first interfaces, including non-linear workflows and proactive system interactions.
• Conduct design reviews and QA audits to ensure shipped features meet usability and aesthetic standards. 
• Ensure design system components are accessible, tokenized, and modular.

Qualifications

• Experience: 7+ years of product design experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership capacity.
• Systems Expert: A proven track record of building and scaling design systems 
• Portfolio: A portfolio demonstrating sophisticated UI/UX work, but more importantly, the documentation and logic behind the systems you've built.
• Mentorship History: Experience directly coaching other designers and helping them level up their visual and strategic skills.

Our Solutions Engineers serve as the technical counterparts to our Account Management teams and play a critical role in onboarding and implementing solutions for customers that allow them to be successful in their direct mail programs. We’re looking for experienced SEs with deep technical curiosity and customer empathy who can build trusted partnerships with our Account Managers to help accelerate time-to-value and ensure successful deployment, adoption, retention, and growth. 

What will you bring to this role…

• 3+ years of tech/SaaS experience in an Implementation, Onboarding, Solutions Architect, or Post-Sale Solutions Engineer role. 
• Technical proficiency on APIs and third-party integrations.
• Working knowledge of software platforms including CRM, CDP or marketing automation tools
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to present to a variety of external audiences
• Flexibility: This is a 100% remote role, with expected travel of approximately 20-25%.

Preferred qualifications for this role include:

• Experience presenting to Marketing and Technical Professionals including Directors/VPs of Marketing and CMOs
• Flexibility to work on multiple projects and simultaneously support the Account Management team.
• Deep experience with technical project management and managing implementation timelines.
• Logistics or Direct Mail experience is a significant plus, though not mandatory

Within 3 months, you’ll….

• Complete Lob’s new hire training & onboarding program alongside other new Lob team members. You’ll gain a broader understanding of our products and how your role fits into the organization.
• Partner with the Director of Solutions Engineering to define key success metrics for your role and how you will measure against them.
• Shadow Solutions Engineers on implementation kick-offs and technical advisory sessions to learn best practices and deployment strategies.
• Dive right into our platform to learn about what makes our platform unique and why customers love our solutions.
• Learn Lob’s implementation process, documentation standards, and common customer integration architectures.
• Complete a mock implementation kickoff and solution design review to ensure comprehension.

Within 6 months, you’ll….

• Regularly meet with your Account Managers to define a relationship that ensures seamless communication and coordination on all customer implementation projects and technical expansions.
• Begin to lead technical implementations on your own with minimal oversight. You will consult with customers to document and validate their technical requirements and translate them into a successful implementation plan.
• Fully grasp the various use cases for direct mail. 
• Successfully manage and execute multiple complex customer implementation projects to go-live.
• Become a Lob and direct mail expert to confidently speak to ever-changing trends, new product features and platform enhancements to help our customers realize their full potential and accomplish their goals.

About The Role

We’re seeking an experienced Staff Data Engineer to lead the design and buildout of Lob’s next-generation unified event tracking platform. The consolidated platform will feed a diverse set of use cases, including both customer-facing analytics and internal operational mail tracking. You will work with your colleagues on the Data, Engineering, and Product teams to design the new platform and lead the transition away from the old. You will also coach and mentor engineers on your team and drive us to raise the bar on trustworthiness for the entire data ecosystem.

Some projects to get excited about:

• Collaborate with colleagues in the Data, Product, and Engineering teams to unify Lob’s foundational data ecosystem and enable the buildout of internal and external data products
• Create modular, reusable frameworks to enable other engineering teams to publish events to the unified platform
• Implement thorough monitoring and alerting to ensure the health of the data platform
• Apply software development best practices to ensure maintainability of the platform
• Partner with the Engineering Manager to set the Data team’s roadmap & define team processes
• Coach and mentor mid-level engineers on the Data team regarding technical best practices and problem-solving
  
  
• As a Staff Data Engineer, you’ll...

• Create and maintain documentation for data products and systems
• Advise stakeholders on the constraints and assumptions of the data processed through the unified data platform
• Deprecate outdated legacy systems without negatively impacting core functionality for end users
• Monitor Cloud and SaaS spend for unusual spikes and seek out opportunities to save costs
• Participate in the team on-call rotation (approximately 1 in 4 weeks). Triage and resolve alerts as needed
• Coordinate with other Staff+ engineers on the broader the tech team to align decision making and execute strategic initiatives

What you will bring to this role...

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field, or equivalent work experience
• At least 8 years (but preferably 10 or more) of combined experience in Data, ML, and/or Software Engineering
• Expertise in Cloud Data Warehousing (Snowflake strongly preferred, Redshift is a plus)
• Expertise in streaming data processing systems such as Kafka and Apache Flink 
• Expertise in modern software development fundamentals including APIs, version control, containerization, and CICD
• Expertise in a variety of database types, including transactional databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and document/vector databases (like Elasticsearch), with ability to select the right tool for a given job
• Familiarity with dbt (data build tool)
• Familiarity with pipeline orchestration engines (Apache Airflow or Prefect preferred)
• Familiarity with Change Data Capture (CDC) patterns and methods
• Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills
• Excellent organizational and project management skills
• Ability to be decisive & adaptable in the face of ambiguity
• Experience with AI-assisted coding tools like ClaudeCode or Cursor
• Proficient with project management tools including Jira

This role sits at the center of that system—Help streamline execution across a distributed, multi-site network and ensuring alignment between Product, Operations, and Sales.

We’re looking for a program-oriented operator who can translate strategy into execution—driving cross-functional initiatives, building scalable processes, and ensuring consistent performance across the network.

What You’ll Do

• Own weekly execution cadence: Lead the weekly functional plan—align priorities across Product, Operations, and Sales; define deliverables; and proactively manage risks, blockers, and dependencies
• Lead business reviews: Manage the Weekly Business Review (WBR), consolidating inputs, surfacing insights, and driving accountability across teams
• Drive cross-functional logistics programs: Lead initiatives that translate product capabilities, network design, and operational plans into scalable execution across a multi-site environment
• Manage execution at the network level: Track timelines, milestones, and dependencies across sites; resolve day-to-day logistics and material flow challenges; escalate issues as needed

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience leading complex, cross-functional programs from design through execution in high-scale or distributed environments
• Strong understanding of logistics networks, material flow, or multi-site operations
• Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, track milestones, mitigate risk, and drive outcomes across multiple stakeholders
• Experience defining processes, KPIs, and operational dashboards to monitor performance and drive improvement
• Strong communicator with the ability to influence across functions and levels of the organization
• Ability to operate in ambiguity, solve problems in real time, and drive alignment without direct authority
• Familiarity with Agile, Lean, Six Sigma, or similar operational methodologies
