Duties/Responsibilities:

• Disassemble mold tooling for cleaning and repair
• Works from blue prints, sketches, general instructions to disassemble, inspect, repair, and assemble various molds, tools, and mechanical equipment
• Performs final fitting operations on purchased / repaired components for proper assembly
• Performs the highly critical assembly operations, refitting, re-venting or making adjustments as necessary for the mold to achieve designed objectives
• Answers troubled calls from Manufacturing departments as required
• Maintains equipment maintenance and repair history records, details of work performed, parts replaced, and the labor hours, as required
• Operate machine shop equipment (Mill, Surface grinder, Lathe)
• EDM, CNC experience is a plus.
• Constructs and repairs machine shop tools, gauges, fixtures, jigs or dies for use within the establishment
• Solves problems relating to unusual material, work-holding arrangements, machine settings, fabrication methods, and production process
• May provide guidance to lower level toolmakers
• Performs mold repair work on cavities and cores due to damage or wear
• Disassembles and assembles molds, analyzes and solves basic mold problems including flashing conditions, galling, venting, cooling problems, Assembles, repairs, inspects, cleans and polishes molds using skill and care while handling and polishing critical surfaces
• Trouble shoot and repair all brands of Hot runner systems
• Completes Engineering changes and revisions to molds
• Manufactures new or repairs existing mold components as required
• Interprets drawings and evaluates machining methods on assignments requiring instructions from Toolroom Supervisor only on intricate machining setups
• Perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions
• May recommend revisions in design and/or substitutions in material based on “machine-ability” or fabrication problems encountered

• Stones and polishes mold components
• Plan, lay out and perform all bench, machine and finishing operations required to alter and condition intricately designed and constructed plastic injection molds and related fixtures

Requirements:

• High School Diploma/GED and 3 – 4 years as Toolmaker Level I or equivalent experience
• Must be familiar with electrical and hydraulic circuits using diagrams, blueprints, and electrical circuit test meters and methods
• Ability to read and write English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and blueprints
• Ability to perform basic math and interpret and executive work instructions
• Ability to work overtime as needed

Job Description/Summary

The Plastic Injection Toolroom Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing our Plastic Injection molds to support manufacturing and achieving quality standards.

Essential Functions

• Ability to troubleshoot various issues on plastic components (Gas traps, voids, weld lines, pin push, etc.)
• Disassembles and assembles molds, analyzes and solves mold problems including flashing conditions, galling, venting, cooling problems, Assembles, repairs, inspects, cleans and polishes molds using skill and care while handling
• Understand blueprints, sketches, general instructions to disassemble, inspect, repair, and assemble plastic injection molds
• Perform highly critical assembly operations, refitting, re-venting or making adjustments as necessary to the mold to achieve designed objectives
• Answers technical questions from Manufacturing departments as required
• Maintains equipment maintenance, and repair history records, details of work performed, parts replaced, and the labor hours, as required

Lasko Products, an industry leader in designing and manufacturing portable fans and heaters for over 100 years, is hiring for a Tool & Die Maker III for our Fort Worth, TX manufacturing facility.

The Tool & Die Maker will be responsible for the tear-down of plastic injection molds and stamping dies, and the repair and reassembly of them. There are three shifts currently needing positions filled. Overtime as needed.

Essential Functions                                                                                                                                                 

• Examines form and texture of stamped metal parts to detect imperfections on Class A surface finish.
• Dismantles dies to gain access to and repair die components
• Knowledge of Hot Runner Systems, including Synventive, HRS
• Examine, form and texture of plastic parts to detect imperfections to Class A surfaces
• Dismantles dies to access and repair tool
• Verifies dimensions, alignments and clearances
• Connects wiring and hydraulic lines to install electrical and hydraulic components
• Disassembly and assembly of molds
• Repair, modify and/or adjust molds
• Examine molds to determine feasibility of in-house repairs or modifications
• Diagnose problems and determine corrective actions
• Polishing, benching, spotting, grinding, drilling, machining, fitting and welding
• Ensure molds are in good and proper mechanical working order
• Perform preventative mold maintenance by following the preventative mold checklist
• Complete all associated paperwork having to do with mold maintenance and PM logs
• Electrical repair – limit switches
• Preventative maintenance and repair of production tools
• Provide technical assistance to production team and assist in problem solving
• Recommends equipment shutdown when not performing to specifications

Lasko Products, an industry leader in the design and manufacture of portable fans and heaters, is seeking a Mold Maker to work 2nd shift at our Fort Worth, Texas location.

The Mold Maker, using parts and/or mold prints, constructs plastic injection molds. Ensures plastic injection molds and related equipment are manufactured and maintained to perform to Company standards. Responsible for CAM programming, set up, manufacturing, and building of new injection molding tooling, tool repair, electrodes, and fixtures.

Essential Functions

• Mold Fabrication and Modification:

• Creating initial molds based on specifications, blueprints, or schematics. 

• Adapting and modifying existing molds to improve performance or address issues. 

• Fabricating mold components using various tools, equipment, and machinery. 

• Maintenance and Repair:

• Performing preventative maintenance, including disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of molds. 

• Troubleshooting and fixing mold malfunctions. 

• Maintaining and repairing existing tooling and molds. 
• Understanding and troubleshooting multiple types of hot-runner systems.

• Quality Control and Inspection:

• Using measuring and gauging tools to perform inspections before, during, and after molding operations. 

• Conducting quality control testing to ensure molds meet specifications. 

• Inspecting finished products for defects. 

• Process and Equipment Knowledge:

• Understanding the injection molding process and equipment. 

• Understanding set-up and operation of molding machines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in mold making, machining, or a related field preferred but not required.
• Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Mold Maker or in a similar role.
• Ability to work using manual machining equipment (i.e. – mills, lathes, surface grinders). Welding a plus.
• Prior experience using Master CAM or SolidWorks software is a plus.
• Strong understanding of Injection Molding processes and materials involved (scientific molding a plus)
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time as well as lift or maneuver heavy mold components up to 60 lbs.
