Staff Machine Learning Engineer - Deployment

Kodiak is seeking Staff Machine Learning Engineers, focusing on model deployment to help build the intelligence that powers the Kodiak Driver. Our ML teams work across perception, prediction, planning, and AI infrastructure to turn real-world driving data into models that enable safe and scalable autonomous trucking.

In this role, you will design and deploy machine learning systems that improve our vehicles’ ability to understand the world, predict the behavior of other road users, and make safe driving decisions. You will collaborate closely with robotics, autonomy, and infrastructure teams to continuously improve the performance of our autonomy stack using large-scale data from our growing fleet.

This is a high-impact opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI systems operating in the real world, where every mile driven improves our models and brings autonomous trucking closer to global deployment.

In this role, you will:

Help design, train, with a focus towards deploying onboard machine learning models that improve the performance/latency of the Kodiak autonomy stack which includes quantization, pruning, converting to ONNX/TensorRT, custom GPU kernels and profiling.
Help identify and achieve parity between onboard and deployed offboard models using validation on HIL
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including perception, planning, simulation, and autonomy infrastructure to integrate ML models into production systems.
Analyze real-world driving logs to identify edge cases and improve model robustness and safety.
Use profiling tooling to additionally help improve the train time for models by identifying and removing bottlenecks.
Contribute to the development of scalable AI infrastructure that supports continuous learning and deployment across Kodiak’s fleet.

What you’ll bring:

MS or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
6+ years experience deploying machine learning or deep learning systems in production environments.
Proficiency in Python, C++ and modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
Experience working with large-scale distributed training systems.
Solid understanding of optimization, and machine learning fundamentals.
Strong software engineering fundamentals including testing, debugging, and system design.
Ability to work collaboratively across teams to solve complex autonomy and robotics challenges.

Kodiak is seeking a world-class Applied AI Engineer to design and build the AI Flywheel - the closed-loop system that powers continuous learning across our fleet of autonomous trucks.

In this role, you will own the architecture and automation of a complete data-to-model flywheel: from mining hard edge cases, to orchestrating distributed training pipelines, to deploying models across our large-scale AI infrastructure. Your work will ensure that our models improve rapidly and continuously with every mile driven.

This is a high-impact, cross-functional role where you’ll interface with our perception, foundation model, and infrastructure teams to transform real-world driving data into smarter models and safer autonomy.

In this role, you will:

Design and implement the end-to-end AI Flywheel, platforms for training, validation, deployment, and building a robust automated system.
Build and maintain multi-node distributed training pipelines using tools like PyTorch DDP, Horovod, or Ray.
Develop smart data mining and active learning strategies to prioritize valuable training data from petabyte-scale logs.
Automate model evaluation and selection pipelines to support rapid iteration and closed-loop deployment.
Build infrastructure for seamless model image packaging, validation, and rollout across Kodiak’s autonomous fleet and AI platform.
Ensure that the flywheel is reliable, reproducible, and scalable, capable of learning from millions of real-world miles.

What you'll bring:

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related field.
3+ years of experience building production-grade ML infrastructure or model pipelines.
Deep proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
Experience with distributed training and pipeline orchestration (e.g., Airflow, Kubeflow, Dagster).
Strong engineering fundamentals, debugging skills, and ability to scale systems.
Passion for turning real-world data into self-improving AI systems.

Ideal candidate will also bring:

Experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or other sensor-rich real-world ML systems.
Prior work with self-supervised learning, active learning, or large-scale data curation.
Familiarity with containerization (Docker), model packaging, and deployment workflows.

Design and develop multimodal transformer architectures that fuse camera, LiDAR, and radar into unified representations
Research and implement cross-modal attention mechanisms, token fusion strategies, and efficient multi-stream tokenization
Build scalable training pipelines for large-scale multimodal transformers across massive real-world datasets
Explore self-supervised and contrastive pretraining objectives that learn transferable multimodal representations
Optimize transformer models for real-time inference under latency and compute constraints

Kodiak is building AI that doesn't just perceive the world, it learns how the physics of the world works. We are developing large-scale generative world models that learn to predict realistic, physically consistent futures from real-world sensor data. This capability serves as the foundation for scalable closed-loop training, validation, and long-tail scenario generation, and is distilled into the onboard models that drive our autonomous trucks. We are looking for a research scientist to lead the design and development of world models capable of generating multi-sensor, multi-view, temporally coherent driving scenarios conditioned on actions, 3D scene context, and text.

In this role, you will:

Design and train generative world models that synthesize realistic multi-camera video and LiDAR conditioned on ego trajectories, 3D scene context, and text
Research and implement conditional diffusion architectures for driving, including spatiotemporal attention, latent space design, and action-conditioned generation
Develop techniques for multi-view geometric consistency in generated outputs, drawing on neural rendering, cross-view attention, and 3D-aware generative approaches
Build methods for joint multimodal generation that maintain cross-sensor consistency between camera, LiDAR, and radar outputs
Design evaluation frameworks that measure world model quality beyond pixel-level metrics, including scenario fidelity and autoregressive stability
Scale training pipelines to learn from thousands of hours of real-world driving data across multiple sensor modalities

What you'll bring:

PhD in Computer Science, AI, Robotics, or a related field, with a focus on generative modeling, neural rendering, or video synthesis
Strong publication record or demonstrated research contributions in diffusion models, video generation, neural radiance fields, 3D-aware generative models, or world models
Experience with neural rendering and view synthesis and an understanding of multi-view geometric consistency
Proficiency working with multimodal sensor data (camera, LiDAR, radar) and familiarity with 3D representations such as BEV grids, voxel fields, or tri-planes
Strong implementation skills in Python and PyTorch, with experience training large generative models at scale using distributed training
Passion for building AI that understands and predicts the physical world to enable safe autonomous driving
