The Role
The Senior People Business Partner (Sr. PBP) serves as the primary HR leader for IonQ’s Space Technology Division, acting as a trusted advisor and right hand to the Divisional Head of HR. This role is responsible for delivering the full spectrum of human resources support, combining strategic partnership with hands-on execution in a fast-scaling, highly technical environment. The Sr. PBP plays a critical role in shaping organizational design, driving talent outcomes, and ensuring operational excellence across the division.
Responsibilities
Strategic Partnership & Leadership
- Serve as a senior advisor to division leadership on organizational strategy, workforce planning, and talent priorities.
- Partner closely with the Divisional Head of HR to translate enterprise HR strategy into division-specific execution plans.
- Act as a thought partner on business transformation, growth initiatives, and scaling challenges within a deep-tech environment.
- Provide coaching and guidance to senior leaders on leadership effectiveness, team dynamics, and performance management.
Organizational Design & Workforce Planning
- Lead organizational design efforts, including structure, spans/layers, and role clarity aligned to business objectives.
- Drive headcount planning, workforce modeling, and scenario planning in partnership with finance and leadership.
- Support integration efforts related to acquisitions, new programs, or expansion initiatives.
Talent Management & Development
- Own and execute talent management processes including performance management, succession planning, and leadership development.
- Identify high-potential talent and partner on development strategies to build leadership bench strength.
- Guide leaders through complex employee relations matters with sound judgment and risk mitigation.
HR Operations & Execution
- Ensure consistent and compliant execution of core HR processes including onboarding, offboarding, promotions, and internal mobility.
- Partner with Centers of Excellence (COEs) across Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, and Learning & Development to deliver integrated solutions.
- Maintain strong knowledge of federal, state (Colorado), and local employment laws and ensure adherence across practices.
Culture & Employee Experience
- Champion a high-performance, mission-driven culture aligned with IonQ’s values and the unique demands of the space technology sector.
- Monitor employee engagement and drive targeted actions to improve retention and organizational health.
- Act as a visible and trusted HR presence across the division.
Data & Insights
- Leverage people analytics to inform decision-making, identify trends, and proactively address risks.
- Develop and present insights on workforce metrics, organizational health, and talent outcomes to senior leadership.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including significant time supporting technical or engineering organizations.
- Demonstrated success as a senior HR business partner in high-growth, complex, or innovation-driven environments (e.g., aerospace, deep tech, SaaS, or advanced manufacturing).
- Strong expertise across core HR disciplines including organizational design, talent management, employee relations, and workforce planning.
- Proven ability to influence senior leaders and operate as a trusted advisor in ambiguous and evolving environments.
- Experience supporting geographically distributed teams and scaling organizations.
- Working knowledge of Colorado employment law and broader U.S. HR compliance requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., SPHR, SHRM-SCP) preferred.

Compensation
The approximate base salary range for this position is $128,445 - $167,497. The total compensation package includes base salary, bonus, equity, and a range of benefits available on our career site.
Compensation will vary based on individual factors such as education, qualifications, and experience of the final candidate(s), specific office location, and calibration against relevant market data and internal team equity. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. The Role
As the Senior Manager of Flight Software at Capella, you will lead the team responsible for developing and maintaining the software that runs Capella’s satellite fleet in space. You will oversee the full flight software organization, supporting mission-critical development and on-orbit operations across multiple programs. In this role, you will set the technical direction and execution strategy for flight software, while building and scaling a high-performing engineering team. You’ll partner closely with electrical, FPGA, systems, and ground software teams to deliver robust and reliable spacecraft software. This position offers the opportunity to shape the future of Capella’s flight software architecture, drive engineering excellence, and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality software across the fleet.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the flight software engineering team, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development.
- Own the overall technical direction, architecture, and execution strategy for flight software across programs.
- Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality, mission-critical software for on-orbit and pre-launch systems.
- Drive and uphold engineering best practices, including code reviews, automated testing, documentation, and design reviews.
- Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to align software development with system-level requirements and mission goals.
- Oversee software planning, roadmap development, and prioritization across multiple efforts.
- Support and guide architectural decisions, trade studies, and long-term technical investments.
- Maintain strong visibility into program execution, proactively identifying risks and ensuring timely delivery of milestones.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.
- Contribute to strategic planning and organizational growth as Capella scales.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with 2+ years managing or leading engineering teams (embedded or aerospace preferred).
- Strong background in real-time embedded systems, including bare-metal, RTOS, and Linux environments.
- Proficiency in C and C++ (C++ experience highly preferred); experience with scripting languages such as Python or shell scripting.
- Experience defining system architecture and technical strategy.
- Familiarity with embedded Linux, Linux kernel modules, and development tools.
- Experience with microcontrollers and SoCs (e.g., Xilinx Zynq) and hardware/software integration.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to align cross-functional teams and drive execution.
- Working knowledge of modern software development practices including Git, CI/CD, and automated testing.

The Role
Capella is looking for an energetic Senior Electrical Engineer Manager who will be responsible for leading and managing a team of electrical engineers who design, develop, and test electrical systems and components. This role involves supporting project execution, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and driving innovation of our electrical systems within our satellite.
This role will sit within the Spacecraft Engineering team at Capella Space. This team contains a variety of engineering disciplines that design and develop the satellite and payload systems.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineers, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback of a distributed team across two offices.
- Assign people to tasks and manage workloads to ensure timely project completion.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.
Project Oversight:
- Oversee the design, development, and testing of electrical systems and components for our application.
- Allocate resources effectively to meet project goals and deadlines.
- Support systems engineering requirements.
Technical Expertise:
- Provide technical expertise and guidance on electrical design, integration, and troubleshooting.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement in electrical engineering practices and processes.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure compliance with aerospace industry standards, including safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
- Implement and enforce quality assurance procedures to maintain high standards in all engineering activities.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; a Master’s degree or higher is preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 12 years of experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex board designs and systems in a hardware R&D lab environment, with 4 years in a managerial or leadership role.
- Proven experience in aerospace systems, or similar high reliability industry, and components is highly desirable.
- Skills:
- Understanding of hardware evaluation methodologies, including development of test cases/suites, performance analysis, test automation, and data analysis
- Extensive experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, thermal chambers, and other test equipment
- Experience with I2C, SPI, PCIe, USB, etc.
- Experience designing modern analog and digital electronics
- Experience in PCB schematic capture & layout
- Experience with Altium designer tools or other similar electronic CAD tools
- Experience designing high reliability systems
- Knowledge of the PCBA fabrication and assembly process
- Familiarity with PLM tools and strong revision control practices
- Excellent design and manufacturing documentation skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work autonomously by determining and evaluating different courses of action independently
- Strong technical communication skills to be used in a highly collaborative environment
