Join our forward-thinking team as a Network Engineer, where you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and supporting high-performance, low-latency network infrastructure.
At IMC, the Trading Infrastructure team is responsible for the WAN, LANs, and all low-latency connectivity to trading venues. You will work closely with Systems Engineers, internal teams, and external partners to deliver best-in-class solutions that support our trading business and help evolve our infrastructure to meet the demands of a dynamic industry.

Your Core Responsibilities:

• Design, implement and support the networking infrastructure. Key areas include Low-latency networking, Unicast and Multicast routing, OSPF, BGP, PIM SM, as well as things like QoS, STP, NAT, protocol tuning, etc.
• Monitor, guard and analyze the proper functioning of our network infrastructure. Take adaptive, retentive and corrective measures and perform structural maintenance.
• Proactively improve our infrastructure by contributing scripts and code to our automation efforts (e.g. Bash, Python).
• Accurately create and maintain documentation detailing the implemented network components, as well as relevant procedures and other documentation.
• Responsibility for our IT security related platforms. Key areas include Palo Alto firewalls, VPNs, Security policies, etc.
• Work flexible hours. We are proud of the uptime of the trading environment, so every now and then you will be working outside of regular business hours to apply critical changes. This could be from your desk, your couch at home or also inside of one of our datacenters abroad.
• Liaise with external vendors, exchanges and providers to explore new technology solutions, implement new services or troubleshoot problems.

IMC is looking for a highly skilled Quantitative Microstructure Analyst to join our Performance team in Sydney. Quantitative Microstructure Analyst's at IMC collaborate with other teams, both technical and non-technical, to handle everything from optimising exchange connectivity to analysing application performance to designing systems for handling massive amounts of data.  If it’s a hard problem, it’s in scope.

Your Core Responsibilities: 

• Data and Systems Analysis: Analyse terabytes of network data to identify patterns, validate hypotheses, and optimise system performance.
• Analyse, optimise, troubleshoot, and continuously tune the complete trading environment to improve the performance of our low-latency trading systems on financial exchanges.
• Analyse time series exchange network captures.
• Design, develop, test, and deploy simple, elegant, reusable code.
• Work closely with traders and other technology teams to drive global thinking, information sharing, and sustainable, long-term solutions.
• Build IMC's knowledge base to ensure a deep understanding of exchange infrastructure and protocols.
• Define the direction for critical investment decisions by analysing complex technical problems in a self-directed manner.

Your Skills and Experience: 

While not all of the below is required, a deep understanding in at least one of the following areas would be an advantage

• 5+ years of experience in at least one of the areas: distributed systems, computer networks, operating system architecture, ultra-low latency environments.
• Strong skills in data analytics including analysing and visualising large data sets
• Knowledge of Linux kernel internals and interfaces including memory, network, and file I/O. Knowledge of eBPF is a plus.
• Knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, UDP, Multicast).  Knowledge of kernel network bypass technologies is a plus.
• Proficiency in Python. Proficiency in C++ a bonus.
• A high degree of flexibility and adaptability: willing and able to deal with uncertainty and ambiguity in a rapidly evolving environment

IMC is seeking experienced Network Engineers who are passionate about building and operating cutting-edge, high-performance networks. You’ll work closely with traders, developers, quants, and performance engineers to design, implement, and support the infrastructure that powers our trading business.

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and support the North American networking environment. Core areas include low-latency networking, unicast and multicast routing, BGP, PIM-SM, performance tuning, gap analysis, and automation.
• Monitor and analyze network health using existing tools while contributing ideas and development toward next-generation monitoring solutions.
• Continuously improve the environment by contributing to automation efforts (e.g., Bash, Python, Ansible, AWX).
• Maintain precise documentation of IMC’s network architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.
• Collaborate with external vendors, exchanges, and service providers to evaluate technology options, deploy new services, and troubleshoot issues.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of dedicated network engineering experience
• Exceptional troubleshooting capabilities across Ethernet LAN, unicast/multicast routing, switching, packet analysis
• Experience with diverse network switching hardware platforms
• Hands-on scripting/automation experience (Python, Ansible, etc.) strongly preferred
• CCIE or CCNP certification is a plus
• Experience in trading or financial services highly preferred

While this is a hybrid position, we expect an in-office presence in our Chicago office 3-4 times per week.
