The role

In this role, you will operate at the intersection of cutting-edge defence technology and sensitive information protection, working on strategically significant programmes in Europe. You will take ownership of classified document lifecycle management—building and maintaining compliance with national security frameworks across multiple entities—while contributing to the expansion of protected operations internationally and the integration of new subsidiaries into our security supervision model. You will guide mandatory awareness sessions, manage personnel vetting processes, prepare classified contract documentation, and support regulatory readiness to ensure our work meets the highest standards of security at a national and alliance level.

The day-to-day

• Own the end-to-end administration of classified material—from establishing and maintaining registries and inventory systems to processing incoming and outgoing materials, verifying integrity and completeness, and managing receipt documentation and confirmation workflows

• Ensure full regulatory compliance and immediate escalation of any anomalies in the handling of classified materials

• Support enhanced personnel vetting processes and coordinate national and international clearance procedures

• Conduct mandatory security awareness sessions across all lifecycle stages, including pre-travel briefings

• Maintain personnel security records and ensure appropriate access controls are in place

• Support classified contract management (domestic and international), including the preparation of security requirement documentation for subcontractors

• Coordinate and execute visit control procedures for both domestic and international visits, including the preparation and processing of visit requests, verification of visitor clearances, and liaison with national and allied security authorities

• Train project teams and leaders on the secure handling of classified materials and compliance expectations

• Monitor security camera networks actively to identify and mitigate suspicious activities or anomalies

• Investigate and respond to alerts via the hazard detection and alarm management systems to ensure rapid threat containment

• Escort and supervise contractors, maintenance staff, and external visitors to maintain secure site protocols

• Manage incidents and escalate critical information in alignment with the established alarm response matrix

• Monitor global and local news continuously to identify and pre-empt potential security threats

• Disseminate security-relevant updates and alerts across standard internal communication channels

• Serve as the Facility Security Officer (FSO) for Helsing's US subsidiary, maintaining full compliance with NISPOM (32 CFR Part 117), DCSA requirements, and all obligations under the company's Special Security Agreement (SSA) 
• Own and manage all aspects of facilities security, including physical security plans, access controls, intrusion detection systems, and classified space (SCIF/SAPF) accreditation and operations 
• Lead the organization's Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) readiness and compliance efforts, partnering cross-functionally with IT, engineering, and program teams to achieve and maintain required certification levels 
• Manage the COMSEC program end-to-end, including account management, key material handling, destruction, and coordination with controlling authorities 
• Ensure full compliance with SSA governance requirements, maintaining appropriate separation protocols, Technology Control Plans (TCPs), and Electronic Communications Plans (ECPs) while enabling operational efficiency across the organization 
• Administer personnel security processes including clearance sponsorship, processing, briefings, debriefings, and continuous vetting monitoring through DISS and related systems 
• Develop and deliver a robust security education, training, and awareness (SETA) program that builds a culture of security consciousness across all levels of the organization 
• Serve as the primary liaison to the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA), the SSA Government Security Committee (GSC), and other cognizant security authorities 
• Partner with executive leadership and the Board of Directors to ensure security operations are aligned with strategic growth objectives, including facility expansions and new program captures 
• Manage classified material control, visitor control programs, and subcontractor security administration 
• Lead incident reporting, security violation investigations, and corrective action implementation 
• Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing security team capable of supporting rapid organizational growth and evolving program requirements

• You have 8+ years of progressive industrial security experience, with at least 3 years managing security programs at a cleared defense contractor facility 
• You've operated within a FOCI-mitigated environment—ideally under a Special Security Agreement (SSA) or Proxy Agreement—and understand the governance, reporting, and separation requirements that come with it 
• You hold or have held FSO certification (FSO Program Management for Possessing Facilities) and have hands-on experience with DCSA inspections and assessments 
• You have demonstrated experience standing up or managing CMMC compliance programs, with a strong understanding of NIST 800-171 controls and the CMMC assessment framework 
• You've managed a COMSEC account and are familiar with NSA policies, key material lifecycle management, and associated reporting obligations

• Develop, implement, and continuously refine comprehensive UK HSE policies in strict alignment with national regulations and Helsing's standards, ensuring coherence with Group HSE efforts

• Conduct regular risk assessments, site safety inspections, and HSE audits across all UK facilities to proactively identify and address potential hazards before they materialise

• Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses — producing detailed reports, root-cause analyses, and clear preventative measures that meaningfully reduce recurrence

• Design and deliver HSE training programmes and site inductions that ensure all employees, visitors, and contractors understand and fulfil their safety and environmental responsibilities

• Collaborate with site HSE leads, operations teams, and the wider security function to drive environmental compliance, with a focus on waste management, energy efficiency, and sustainability initiatives

• Serve as the primary representative to external regulatory bodies — including the Health and Safety Executive and the Environment Agency — during inspections and consultations

• Track and report key HSE performance metrics to the UK Head of Security, using data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement across the UK business

• Chair HSE working groups and senior safety leadership meetings, engaging effectively with customers and stakeholders to maintain shared accountability for safety outcomes

• Hold a NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent advanced qualification in Occupational Health and Safety
