The Role
Engineering Managers at Hebbia are technical leaders who build, ship, and lead. Every manager on our team writes code, reviews pull requests, and makes architecture decisions alongside the engineers they lead. This role requires strong technical ability. If you are looking for a role that is purely people management, this is not the right fit.
You will own a team and a problem space. You will set technical direction, unblock engineers, raise the bar on quality, and ship product that our customers rely on to make investment decisions. You are a strong partner to your product counterpart, and when they are out you drive the product yourself. Product intuition and business understanding are as important as technical depth in this role. You will also hire, coach, and grow your team. Our interview process reflects how we work: expect systems design, coding, and architecture discussions in addition to leadership and management conversations.
We are hiring across multiple engineering teams and will match you to the area where your background and interests create the most leverage.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction and delivery for your team. Set roadmap priorities, define architecture, and make tradeoffs between speed and quality.
- Write and review code. You will spend meaningful time in the codebase, not in meetings about the codebase.
- Hire, coach, and develop engineers. Run effective 1:1s, give direct feedback, and build a team that compounds in strength over time.
- Drive operational excellence for the systems your team owns: monitoring, incident response, on-call, and reliability.
- Collaborate with product and design to translate customer problems into technical solutions that ship fast. When your PM is unavailable, you own the product direction for your team.
- Work directly with customers and internal stakeholders to understand requirements and inform priorities.
- Identify and pay down technical debt. Make pragmatic decisions about when to invest in foundations versus when to move fast.
- Raise the engineering bar across the organization through better tooling, processes, and culture.
Who You Are
- 7+ years of software engineering experience at a venture-backed startup or top-tier technology company, with at least 2 years in a technical lead or engineering management role
- You still write code and want to keep writing code. You see management as a way to multiply impact, not a way to stop building.
- Strong systems design and architecture skills. You can design, critique, and evolve complex distributed systems.
- Experience building and scaling backend systems, data pipelines, or platform infrastructure in production
- Track record of hiring and developing strong engineers. You know what good looks like and you can attract it.
- Strong product intuition. You understand what customers need, why it matters to the business, and can make good product decisions independently.
- High ownership and urgency. You take accountability for outcomes, not process.
- Comfortable working in ambiguity. Priorities shift, requirements are underspecified, and you figure it out.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and modern backend technologies (Python, TypeScript, Go)
- Strong communicator. You can create clarity for your team, your stakeholders, and your customers.
- Experience building or leading teams that work with LLMs, agentic systems, or applied AI/ML in production is a plus
- Background in applied research or experience bridging research and production engineering is a plus
- Experience with enterprise customers, particularly in finance, legal, or consulting domains is a plus
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $200,000 to $300,000. This range may be inclusive of several career levels at Hebbia and will be narrowed during the interview process based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. Adjustments outside of this range may be considered for candidates whose qualifications significantly differ from those outlined in the job description.

The Role
You will spend the majority of your time embedded with Hebbia’s most strategic customers, building the last mile of our platform for their specific workflows, data, and domain. This is a hands-on engineering role. You write production code, you ship it, you own it.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you are the bridge between Hebbia’s platform and the real-world complexity of our customers’ environments. You sit with the customer’s team, understand their hardest problems, and build solutions that make Hebbia indispensable. Then you bring what you’ve learned back to our engineering and product teams to make the platform better for everyone.
This role is for engineers who want to combine deep technical work with direct customer impact. You will see your code create value in days, not months. The FDE team operates at the intersection of engineering and go-to-market. You will work closely with our core engineering team—shared code review, architecture alignment, deploy pipelines—and with our account teams who direct where you deploy and what you focus on. Our team works in person 5 days a week at our offices in NYC and SF.
Responsibilities
- Embed with strategic accounts to deeply understand their domain, data, and workflows
- Build custom integrations, workflow automations, and domain-specific solutions on top of Hebbia’s platform
- Write production code that deploys through our CI/CD pipelines and meets our engineering standards
- Own the technical relationship with the customer’s team during your engagement
- Prototype fast, validate with the customer, iterate, and ship
- Return from engagements and work with engineering and product to generalize reusable patterns into platform capabilities
- Participate in code review, on-call rotation, and architecture discussions alongside core engineering
- Build connectors to customer data sources and document management systems
Who You Are
- 5+ years software development experience at a venture-backed startup or top technology firm
- Strong full-stack engineering skills. You build across the stack: APIs, data pipelines, frontend when needed, infrastructure when needed.
- Comfortable working in ambiguity. Customer problems are messy and underspecified. You figure it out.
- High customer empathy. You enjoy sitting with users, understanding their workflows, and translating pain points into technical solutions.
- Fast and pragmatic. You prototype, validate, and ship in days and weeks, not quarters.
- Strong communicator. You are the primary technical point of contact for the customer. You can talk to both engineers and executives.
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and modern backend technologies (Python, TypeScript, Go)
- Experience with data integrations, ETL pipelines, or enterprise data systems (S3, Snowflake, SharePoint, etc.) is a plus
- Experience with LLMs, RAG systems, or applied AI is a plus but not required
- Prior experience in finance, legal, or consulting domains is a plus
- Experience with customer-facing engineering roles (solutions engineering, professional services, or similar) is a plus
Compensation
The salary range for this position is set between $180,000 to $300,000. This range may be inclusive of several career levels at Hebbia and will be narrowed during the interview process based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. The Team
The Integrations team is the backbone of Hebbia.
We own the systems that bring customer data into the platform — and without us, nothing else works. Every insight Hebbia generates depends on reliable, real-time access to data across dozens of enterprise systems.
This is not surface-level API work. This is building resilient, production-grade data systems across environments that are messy, inconsistent, and constantly changing.
The Role
You will own the full lifecycle of integrations that power Hebbia’s AI — from designing connectors to deploying them in production, monitoring their behavior, and debugging failures in real time.
You’ll work across systems like Snowflake, S3, SharePoint, and internal customer infrastructure — building pipelines that need to handle real-world complexity: unreliable APIs, evolving schemas, massive datasets, and edge cases that don’t show up in documentation.
When these systems work, customers trust Hebbia with their most critical workflows. When they break, it’s immediately visible — and you’ll be the one who understands why.
This role is hands-on, high-ownership, and deeply technical. You won’t just write code — you’ll develop the instincts to operate and debug complex distributed systems in production.

What You''ll Do
- Build connectors and ingestion pipelines that bring enterprise data into Hebbia's AI platform, from Snowflake warehouses and SharePoint libraries to live pricing feeds, high-velocity news data, and proprietary customer systems
- Design and operate pipelines that handle scale, failures, and edge cases gracefully
- Debug issues across APIs, auth systems, and data formats, often under real-time customer pressure
- Own reliability end-to-end: monitoring, alerting, on-call, and incident response
- Improve internal tooling and observability to make systems more robust and easier to operate
- Partner with product and customer teams to scope, prioritize, and ship the integrations that unlock Hebbia's highest-value use cases
- Design and ship agents that sit on top of the ingestion layer, making enterprise data accessible and actionable across all of Hebbia's product surfaces — from document analysis to structured query workflows
Who You Are
- 2–5 years of software engineering experience, ideally at a startup or high-growth technology company
- Strong proficiency in Python, with experience building backend services and APIs
- Direct experience building or maintaining integrations with third-party APIs—you understand OAuth flows, webhook patterns, rate limiting, pagination, and the ways APIs break in practice
- Comfortable with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and tools like Kafka, PostgreSQL, Redis, or ElasticSearch
- Operational mindset: you take ownership of systems in production, not just in a PR. You are comfortable with on-call and treat reliability as a first-class concern
- Strong debugging instincts—you can trace a data issue from a customer report through logs, API responses, and queue state to root cause
- Clear communicator who can explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders when a customer’s integration is down
- Autonomous and self-directed. This role has high ownership and low hand-holding
Bonuses:
- Experience with enterprise data platforms (Snowflake, SharePoint, Salesforce) from the integration side
- Familiarity with document processing pipelines or content extraction systems
- Experience building agentic systems or LLM-enabled products
- Frequent user of AI tools in your development workflow (Cursor, Claude Code, etc.)
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $160,000 to $265,000.
