About Haize Labs

Today’s AI has a jagged intelligence surface. It is superhuman on well-defined benchmarks like the International Math Olympiad, but falls short in many real world domains.

Haize Labs brings superintelligence to the long tail of these domains through our agent foundry, which enables agent performance at parity with or better than domain experts.

Our agents are being deployed across many, many verticals. We are hiring an Applied Researcher to 1) turn companies into environments, 2) RL on these environments, and 3) rapidly scale and refine our products in existing verticals. This role spans research (RL, environment design, reward modeling), engineering (building, debugging, evaluating agents), and customer management (scoping, planning, relationship-building).

In this role, you will:

• Push the pareto frontier of model capabilities
• Rapidly synthesize RL environments and reward functions / models
• Fine-tune agents to hillclimb almost any task in any business you can imagine
• Develop the research platform—observability, evaluation, custom reward models, simulation testing—connecting domain experts to models

You are a great fit if you:

• Love research, but also love engineering and making money
• Have a knack for probing model capabilities (e.g. benchmark papers)
• Want to bring intelligence to real people doing real work in the real world, not just Silicon Valley SaaS companies

Ideal candidates likely:

• Have spent both time in a lab and in startup land
• Contribute to popular research frameworks (e.g. Prime-RL, Verl, Harbor, etc.)
• Spend their free time thinking about where AI is headed, and how to shape its capabilities

Haize Labs haizes LLMs at scale. We are the robustness layer eliminating the risk of using language models in any setting. To prevent these systems from failing, we preemptively discover all the ways in which they can fail and continuously eliminate them in deployment.

We are looking for Research Interns to help us to develop fundamental safety tooling for LLMs. Your work will not only set the standard both in terms of research, but also in terms of how LLMs are tested, verified, and applied across customers, companies, and industries. You will directly influence how the world responsibly uses LLMs.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with customers to adapt our core R&D for different domains.
• Build out core infra, cloud tooling, and UX around our algorithms.
• Deliver a delightful human-in-the-loop product experience.
• Ship tools that are used by developers across the world. 

Qualifications

• Experience with ML in an applied setting.
• Strong open source presence or strong track record of software engineering projects and employment.
• Can ramp up very quickly on understanding our research.
• Love to break things, i.e. have a “stick it to the Man” attitude.

Annual Salary

$125,000 – $200,000 USD

Location policy: 6 days a week, in person, in NYC.

Our founding team has been working together for quite some time. We are turning down our Stanford PhD offers to send it on Haize Labs, have gotten into Y Combinator and other accelerators multiple times (and turned down multiple times), were the first Student Researcher at Allen AI, co-led R&D at a Series A NLP startup, wrote ML-guided matchmaking services for 50,000+ students, built an educational nonprofit supporting 60 countries, and did some other cool things along the way.
