Teleoperation/Connectivity Software Engineer 

What you will work on

You will work on Fernride’s teleoperation software stack, building the systems that allow human operators to safely, intuitively, and reliably control vehicles remotely. This includes high-performance HMIs, low-latency video pipelines, and robust connectivity between teleoperation stations and vehicles.

The team operates at the intersection of real-time systems, networking, graphics, and vehicle integration. The focus is on performance, determinism, and reliability across a wide range of hardware—from tablets and mobile controllers to full teleoperation stations.

How you will leave your footprint

• Build and evolve teleoperation HMIs using modern GUI frameworks (e.g. ImGui, Web) across multiple hardware form factors
• Design and implement low-latency, high-throughput video pipelines with dynamic multi-stream management and precise time synchronization
• Optimize glass-to-glass latency using GPU-accelerated video encoding/decoding and careful end-to-end tuning
• Develop robust connectivity layers between teleoperator stations and vehicles, including V2V communication where required

What you will work on

The Quantum Systems Land Domain is developing leading-edge autonomous UGV technology for defense — a domain where no blueprint exists. The product strategy starts with a UGV that is useful on today’s battlefields and can be built with current technology, then progressively increases the authority of the autonomy system while reducing the need for human supervision — across ever more complex operating environments, up to fully autonomous operation in proximity to civilians.

As a senior system safety expert, you will own and shape this discipline from the ground up: define the safety case architecture, build the processes, and set the standard. You will work across product management, design assurance, product security, engineering teams, and V&V to ensure safety is embedded in the product from hazard analysis through to operational deployment. As the product matures, you will grow your domain into a team.

• Establish and maintain the system safety process and safety case architecture.
• Define and maintain the Operational Design Domain (ODD) — environmental, operational, and scenario boundaries for safe operation.

• Define system-level validation criteria for safe behavior in operational scenarios.
• Own system-level risk acceptance — residual risk arguments, release conditions, and operational restrictions.

• Manage the regulatory register and safety-relevant compliance matrices (Machinery Regulation, AI Act).
• Allocate safety functions and integrity targets to Design Assurance and Product Security; arbitrate safety-security conflicts (e.g., fail-open vs. fail-secure); coordinate cross-domain risk management.
• Communicate safety functions and ODD constraints as system requirements to engineering teams; review architecture proposals for hazard coverage; participate in scenario reviews and field trials.
• Coordinate with Quantum Systems core group on safety aspects of the C3 system (MOSAIC, GCS) and multi-domain operation.
• Define validation scenarios and acceptance criteria for V&V including edge cases, degraded modes, and SOTIF triggering conditions; review and accept validation evidence for safety claims.
• Develop and maintain AI-assisted workflows for safety analysis, compliance auditing, and traceability management.

What you will work on

You will own and drive Fernride’s hardware–software integration and validation infrastructure, ensuring that software changes are continuously tested against real and representative vehicle targets. As a key member of the dynamic team you will bring substantial experience to identify high-impact areas across our hardware, compute, and CI/CD architecture, and implement and deliver complete, production-ready solutions. The focus of the role is on automation, emulation, and simulation—bringing hardware, networks, and vehicle interfaces reliably into CI.

As part of the Engineering Enablement / Build & Infrastructure team, you will design and operate HIL and target CI systems that scale with product complexity while maintaining high quality and determinism. We’re looking for a Staff Hardware Engineer to own compute and sensor set hardware design from concept through prototype integration and product validation—bridging R&D prototypes into robust, production-grade vehicle platforms.

What you will work on / How you will leave your footprint

• Compute & sensor set design: work closely with stakeholders on definition of system architecture, components selection, and integration of compute, sensors (incl. cleaning), networking, and communication components into vehicle platforms.
• Prototype integration: plan and execute bring-up, commissioning, mechanical and electrical integration, and troubleshooting of new hardware in vehicle prototypes.
• Design verification & validation: lead HW validation plans, execute test campaigns, and drive design improvements through data and root-cause analysis.

• Hardware engineering background with 5+ years experience in robotics; ideally autonomous driving or safety-/mission-critical vehicle systems.
• Strong experience in compute and sensor system integration (selection, bring-up, validation).
• Proven track record designing and delivering vehicle wiring harnesses from prototype to production-grade solutions.
• Experience with rapid prototyping tools (manual tools and 3D printing) and Solidworks
• Experience with CAN, diagnostics basics, and Automotive Ethernet (T1) networks; comfortable designing and debugging vehicle network configurations.
• Practical experience with HIL/breadboard setups, test instrumentation, and commissioning.
• Experience integrating and validating GNSS and cellular connectivity; familiarity with satellite connectivity (e.g., Starlink) and/or tactical communications is a plus.
• Strong integration and test mindset: systematic debugging, clean documentation, and validation-driven engineering.
• Hands-on mentality and willingness to jump into builds, bring-up, and workshop work when needed.
• Basic software/tooling skills: Python scripting and Vector tooling (e.g., CANoe/CANalyzer or similar).

You will work on Fernride’s embedded vehicle software platform, forming the foundation that connects high-level autonomy and teleoperation software to the physical vehicle. • End-to-End Orchestration: Direct and optimize the supply chain from Ukrainian and Polish suppliers to our primary assembly locations in Germany.

• Regional Expertise: Proven experience managing suppliers in Eastern Europe (Poland/Ukraine). Understanding the local logistical nuances is a significant plus.
• Problem Solver: You don’t just report delays; you find routes around them. You thrive in high-pressure, "living" supply chains.
• Communication: Fluent in English and German. Proficiency in Ukrainian is a strong plus.
• Mobility: Willingness to travel between the JV sites in Germany and partner locations in Poland as required.
