We’re looking for a VP of Software to own the entire software ecosystem—spanning Embedded Firmware, Control Systems, Mobile Apps, and Cloud Backend.

Your mission is to build the "machine that builds the machine." We are looking for a systems thinker obsessed with operational leverage–someone who ensures that as our product line expands from kettles and grinders to complex brewing ecosystems, our engineering velocity accelerates, and system reliability improves at scale.

This role is based in our San Francisco, CA office and requires regular in-office presence in accordance with company policy. 

Who You Are

You’re an experienced engineering leader who has built and led multidisciplinary teams across software, hardware, product, and design. You know how to align functions around a shared roadmap, make clear tradeoffs, and create accountability without friction. As products grow more complex, you understand how to structure teams, processes, and architecture to scale. You foster a culture of ownership, close collaboration, and open communication.

You care deeply about how software is built. You’ve implemented automated CI/CD pipelines and strong testing practices that support complex products, reducing manual work and improving reliability. You use metrics to understand delivery performance and team health, pairing data with sound judgment. You’re pragmatic, curious, and motivated to build products that are both technically rigorous and thoughtfully designed. You’re motivated by raising the bar, not maintaining the status quo.

What You’ll Do

• Scale the Engineering Organization: Design the team structure, process, and operating systems that allow us to ship high-quality firmware, mobile, and cloud services with extreme efficiency.
• Set the Technical Direction: Lead the technical roadmap for our embedded systems, control logic, mobile interfaces, and cloud services. You’ll ensure the "brain" of our hardware is as elegant as its exterior.
• Raise the Bar on Engineering Quality: Establish best practices for CI/CD, automated testing, code review, and release management—especially for complex hardware-software integrations where reliability is critical.
• Consolidate & Modularize: Drive the evolution of our codebase architecture. You will lead the effort to consolidate repositories into a modular, reusable architecture that speeds up development for future product launches.
• Lead Cross-Functional Execution: You will bridge the gap between technical constraints and user delight, ensuring our digital experiences are as intuitive as a manual pour-over.
• Increase Development Velocity: Identify and remove bottlenecks in the development lifecycle. Invest in tooling, automation, and modern workflows (including AI-assisted development where appropriate) to optimize the engineering “inner loop”—improving cycle time and release confidence.
• Own Delivery & Reliability: Be accountable for predictable execution, system performance, and post-launch stability across our connected products.
• Hire and Develop Exceptional Talent: Recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performing engineering team. Create a culture of ownership, transparency, and continuous improvement.
• Strategic Leadership: Work closely with the CEO and hardware teams on major architectural and "build vs. buy" decisions, helping define the long-term future of connected specialty coffee.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with deep hands-on experience in both "hard" embedded systems engineering (C/C++, RTOS, Control systems) and "soft" engineering (Cloud-native, Mobile, UX).
• Proven track record of scaling an engineering organization from early stage to high-growth, including building and leading teams across multiple disciplines.
• Demonstrated success delivering connected products where hardware and software are tightly integrated, with ownership across architecture, reliability, and lifecycle management.
• Deep expertise in IoT ecosystems, including OTA (Over-the-Air) updates, fleet management, and sensor fusion.
• Experience establishing modern development practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, release management, and metrics-driven delivery.
• A portfolio of shipped products where software and hardware interact seamlessly.
• Strong technical judgment across modern applications and embedded stacks (i.e.React, Node.js, AWS, C/C++), with the ability to evaluate tradeoffs and evolve architectural decisions as the company scales.
• Strong executive communication skills, with experience partnering closely with CEO-level leadership and presenting technical strategy to senior stakeholders or boards.

Salary Range: $240k - $280k plus bonus & generous equity package

We’re looking for an Automation Engineer (CI/CD, Firmware, Mobile, Backend) to support hardware product development and testing. 

This role is based in our office in San Francisco, CA and is required to be in-office 4 days per week. 

Who You Are

We are seeking a highly skilled Automation Engineer to design, build, and maintain end-to-end CI/CD pipelines that automate testing, deployment, and release workflows across software, firmware, mobile applications, and AWS-based backend services. This role requires deep experience in test automation, hardware-integrated testing, and the ability to work with system logs and external measurement devices. You will also play a key role in enabling intelligent debugging by integrating test outputs with AI-based analysis tools.

What You’ll Do

CI/CD & Automation Frameworks

• Design and implement scalable CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, deployment, and release processes for:
• Embedded firmware
• Mobile applications
• Cloud-based backend services (AWS)
• Maintain and optimize automation frameworks to support continuous integration and delivery across multiple platforms.
• Firmware Automation
• Implement automated workflows to:
• Enforce coding style and static analysis checks
• Execute unit tests
• Compile firmware codebases from GitHub
• Flash firmware onto physical devices
• Run automated functional and integration test cases
• Collect, normalize, and forward device logs and test results to AI agents for debugging and root-cause analysis

Mobile Application Automation

• Build automated pipelines to:
• Perform coding style and lint checks
• Run unit tests
• Deploy builds from GitHub to test environments
• Install applications on physical test phones
• Execute automated UI and functional test cases
• Aggregate logs and test artifacts and pass them to AI agents for debugging

Backend Automation (AWS)

• Develop automation to:
• Enforce coding standards and static analysis
• Run unit and integration tests
• Deploy services from GitHub to test environments
• Execute automated backend test suites
• Capture logs, metrics, and traces and forward them to AI agents for intelligent analysis

Hardware & Data Integration

• Design and maintain automated tests that integrate:
• Hardware device logs
• Data from external measurement devices such as sensors, scales, or other instrumentation
• Ensure reliable data capture, synchronization, and validation across hardware and software systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• 7+ years of experience in test automation, CI/CD, or automation engineering roles
• Proficiency in automation scripting (Python or similar)
• Hands-on experience with hardware-integrated automation testing
• Strong experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, CircleCI)
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills in complex, multi-system environments
• Proven experience with hardware automation, including tests that integrate machine logs and data from external measurement devices such as sensors and scales
• Familiarity with Git-based workflows and version control best practices
• Ability to design robust, repeatable, and scalable test automation systems
• Expertise in log collection, processing, and analysis

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Demonstrated experience working across firmware, mobile, and backend systems
• Familiarity with embedded systems, RTOS, or low-level firmware development
• Experience with mobile automation frameworks (e.g., Appium, XCTest, Espresso)
• Experience with cloud-native testing, observability, and monitoring tools
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience working in IoT, consumer electronics, or hardware-software integrated products
• Experience integrating automation outputs with AI or ML-based debugging/analysis tools
• Experience with firmware build systems, flashing tools, and device communication
• Hands-on experience automating mobile application testing on real devices
• Strong understanding of AWS-based backend services and deployment workflows
• Experience with test frameworks for unit, integration, and system testing

Salary Range: $165,000- $185,000

Fellow is seeking a motivated Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Co-op to join our fast-growing team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design and development of our award-winning products, working alongside experienced engineers and product designers. The co-op will gain hands-on experience across various stages of the product development cycle, from concept to production. This position is based in our San Francisco office.

What You'll Do:

• Assist with the mechanical or electrical design of products, contributing to various stages from early concept to launch.
• Support iterative prototyping to validate concepts functionally and assist with product-level decisions or user testing.
• Help develop and drive design and functional validation testing for mechanical and/or electrical components.
• Perform root cause analysis of complex electromechanical hardware system failures.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks or OnShape preferred for Mechanical; relevant electrical design software for Electrical) is a plus.
• Hands-on prototyping experience is a plus.
• Eagerness to learn and contribute to a fast-paced product development environment.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Mechatronics experience strongly preferred including selecting, qualifying and integrating sensors, actuators, valves, etc..

We’re looking for a Principal Product Manager to focus on and own our brewing category through future accessories and platform extensions. You’ll act as the “mini-CEO” of the category, owning the product vision, roadmap, and commercial outcomes across DTC, retail, and global markets.

This role is based in our San Francisco, CA office and requires regular in-office presence in accordance with company policy.

As a senior individual contributor,  you’re confident in influencing decisions at the highest levels of the organization. You’re comfortable presenting to executives and board members, and you have collaborated with leaders across Product Engineering, R&D, Marketing, and Commercial teams. 

What You’ll Do

• Product Vision & Strategy - Brewing
  • Own the end-to-end product vision and long-term roadmap for Fellow’s brewing platform (machines, accessories, and ecosystem features).
  • Define what “Fellow-level brewing” means across performance, reliability, experience, and aesthetics—and translate that into clear product requirements.
  • Build and maintain a deep understanding of the brewing landscape (home and prosumer), competitive set, and emerging technologies.
• Customer & Market Insight
  • Drive qualitative and quantitative research with home baristas, prosumers, cafes, and partners to uncover needs, pain points, and opportunities.
  • Synthesize insights into clear problem statements and prioritized opportunities, balancing enthusiast feature asks with broad-market needs and price sensitivity.
• Roadmap, Requirements & Tradeoffs
  • Own PRDs and requirements from early concept through launch, working closely with R&D and Product Engineering.
  • Make explicit tradeoffs between cost, complexity, performance, and schedule; be the final decision-maker on feature set vs. price point for your product line.
  • Partner with Finance and Commercial teams to build and pressure test business cases, including forecast, margin, and portfolio positioning.
• Cross-Functional Leadership (IC, not people manager)
  • Lead cross-functional pods across R&D, Product Engineering, Firmware/Software, UX, Industrial Design, Operations, Marketing, CX, and Sales to deliver on roadmap goals.
  • Build tight partnerships with R&D on early concept development and coffee performance, with Product Engineering on execution, validation, and reliability, and with Software PM & UX on connected experiences.
  • Drive clarity, documentation, and decision-making so teams move quickly and stay aligned.
• Go-to-Market & Lifecycle Ownership
  • Own key elements of go-to-market strategy in partnership with Marketing, Sales, and CX (positioning, messaging, pricing, launch sequencing).
  • Define success metrics (adoption, NPS, margin, attach rates, field quality) and run post-launch reviews.
  • Steward the full lifecycle of the brewing portfolio, including derivative SKUs, line extensions, and end-of-life decisions.
• Platform & Portfolio Thinking
  • Ensure brewing roadmap fits within Fellow’s broader ecosystem strategy (grinders, brewers, kettles, analog, software).
  • Look for platform and component re-use opportunities to reduce complexity and cost without compromising experience.

Qualifications

• 8–10+ years of Product Management experience, including significant time as a senior IC working on complex, cross-functional products.
• Proven track record of shipping successful consumer hardware products; experience in coffee, kitchen appliances, or prosumer devices is a strong plus.
• Demonstrated ability to own a product line P&L-level view (pricing, margin, mix) and make tradeoffs between features, cost, and schedule.
• Strong technical fluency working with hardware, firmware, and software teams.
• Experience working closely with brand and marketing teams on positioning, messaging, and go-to-market strategy for premium consumer products.
• Exceptional communication skills—able to create crisp narratives for executive and board-level audiences.
• Deep customer empathy and passion for elevating everyday rituals—ideally, you’re a coffee enthusiast who cares about brewing quality and experience.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with evolving structure and processes.
