Opportunity
e-Zinc is searching for an experienced and talented Senior Scientist, Electrolyte Development to work within the Technology function on the development, formation, and characterization of advanced electrolytes for e-Zinc’s technology. You will be a key contributor to driving electrolyte innovation; scaling formulations from lab to production, and collaborating closely with teams across electrode development, product engineering, and manufacturing. This role offers the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of clean energy within a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This position will report directly to the VP, Research & Development.
Position Scope and Responsibilities
- Lead and own the technical deliverables for cross-functional R&D projects focused on the development and characterization of electrolytes from technology readiness levels between 1 and ~4, within a technology development framework
- Identify and characterize mechanisms regarding electrolyte formulation and operation within the e-Zinc battery
- Develop simulations to gain mechanistic insights into battery dynamics, predict performance, and support experimental findings
- Be the subject matter expert on electrolyte chemistry and electrolyte fundamentals
- Propose and develop concepts to address technical issues and meet performance targets based on scientific principles
- Plan and execute experimental work on electrochemical, chemical and physical characterization of electrolytes, including benchtop tests and prototype testing
- Predict and characterize electrolyte behaviour under various conditions using thermodynamics and kinetics of the various mechanisms of operation
- Partner with external collaborators to advance the technology and our understanding of it.
- Work with partners to translate lab-scale formulations to production
- Perform data analysis on test results and communicate results and conclusions in the form of presentations and reports
- Document results and analysis in the form of written technical reports, such as test and analysis reports
- Collaborate across functions to progress the technology and the integration into the product
- Work in cross-functional teams to solve technical issues at various stages of development and support development in areas such as electrodes and advanced cell
- Contribute to e-Zinc’s intellectual property portfolio through the creation of patent applications and trade secrets
- Mentorship of other e-Zinc staff, fostering a high-performing and solution-oriented culture
- Maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in chemistry, materials science or related field plus 7+ years of industrial work experience in relevant fields.
- Proven experience developing commercially viable battery electrolytes such as zinc or lithium battery electrolytes.
- Expert-level understanding and experience in electrochemistry, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in simulation software (COMSOL)
- In-depth knowledge of characterization methods for electrolytes and electrodes for electrochemical energy storage devices.
- Strong data analysis skills and ability to interpret complex chemical and electrochemical data.
- Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills
- A self-starter and adaptive learner. Motivated to strive and succeed in a start-up environment.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Additional Assets:
- Experience in aqueous zinc electrochemistry is considered a strong asset.
- A PhD with a focus on electrochemical energy storage or fuel cell systems

Compensation & Total Rewards:
The expected annual salary range for this role is 105,000-125,000. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and overall fit for the position.

Opportunity
e-Zinc is searching for an experienced and talented Principal Engineer, Testing & Analysis to lead the execution, planning, and continuous improvement of battery and system-level testing and analysis across our zinc-air energy storage platform. Reporting to the VP Research & Development, this role will play a critical role in the product development testing and analysis. The ideal candidate brings a strong balance of hands-on testing experience and leadership capability, with a focus on validation and supporting product readiness for deployment and scale. You will work closely with technology (R&D), product engineering and other departments to ensure testing activities align with product goals and commercialization timelines.
Position Scope and Responsibilities
Lab Operations & Ownership
- Own and manage the battery testing lab, including test stations, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Ensure high uptime through preventive maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting
- Manage inventory of test materials, consumables, and battery samples.
- Enforce and continuously improve lab safety protocols and best practices .
- Ensure high data quality, repeatability, and statistical rigor in all testing activities
Testing Strategy & Execution
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve test methods, procedures, and protocols for cell, pack, and system-level validation & testing.
- Support and lead the execution of various testing plans at all levels of development, ensuring alignment with testing objectives.
- Analyze large and complex data sets to extract actionable insights.
- Support assembly and build activities by ensuring test readiness and validation during prototype and system integration phases
Data, Reporting & Quality
- Oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and traceability
- Establish best practices and standardize data processing, visualization and reporting formats to communicate results clearly to cross-functional teams
- Manage test data systems and tools to enable efficient data retrieval and decision-making
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Lead structured problem-solving efforts using methodologies such as 8D, root cause analysis, and Six Sigma tools
- Identify system and process issues through testing and drive corrective actions
- Continuously improve testing efficiency, automation, and repeatability
Team Leadership & Development
- Mentor and develop a team of test engineers, technicians, and interns
- Manage workload, scheduling, and prioritization of testing activities
- Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and hands-on problem solving
- Service as the SME in experimental methods, diagnostics (cell, packs, system) and failure mechanisms.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with R&D and product workstreams to align testing with product development and production goals.
- Support transition from engineering validation to manufacturing and deployment
- Provide feedback to design teams based on test results and field learnings to inform design and development decisions.
Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering (or relevant discipline within Engineering or Science).
- 10+ years of experience in battery or electro-mechanical system testing and data analysis, including cell, pack and/or system-level validation.
- Proven experience in lab operations, test execution, and team leadership
- Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and product validation processes
- Strong hands-on experience with test equipment, instrumentation, and troubleshooting
- Proficiency in data acquisition, analysis, and reporting tools (e.g Python, MATLAB)
- Experience with structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, Six Sigma)
- Familiarity with high-reliability testing environments (e.g., automotive, medical, industrial)
- Strong understanding of battery safety standards and testing best practices
- Strong communication skills
